The Death I Dreamed Of, the f*ck's wrong with me?

Warning: Spoilers
The Death I Dreamed Of ( original title: Ο Θάνατος Που Ονειρεύτηκα ) is a Greek horror / romance movie which proves how unfamiliar the Greek movie industry is with making horror films. The idea of this produced mess came from a Greek bohemian actor/artist who thought it would be fun creating a movie based on some satanism events / killings that happened in Athenian suburbia during the 90's and presenting their motivation. The direction was done by a new director, successful for his '' based on true events '' thriller kind Greek TV series. The result was horrible.

So you are watching this party of teenage rich kids having nothing to do in the dull suburbia, distant from their parents, enjoying themselves by experimenting with dark rituals till things get out of control and the killings start. Even though the plot is so simple, the director achieved in creating a film of continuous wtf-am-i-watching-sequences. It feels like a long music video but basically that's what every Greek TV series is like so it comes to no surprise. The screenplay is in great muss, there are few long dialogues and the characters names are introduced along with their deaths late in the movie.

There are plot holes everywhere with series of unexplained stuff shoved into you. My personal favorite was this mentally retarded character who kept stalking them and hiding the corpses that were left behind. The makers wanted to make an intellectual film but they rather made a cheap replica of Hollywood horror b' movies filled with meaningless scenes and effects. If you feel like wasting your time, go ahead watch this, I'd be grateful to hear your interpretation of this. It kicks ass in the pointless meter with a five out of five, making it one of the most pointless movies this blog has encountered in the past year.

Dream come true(?)
kosmasp16 January 2011
The movie begins very strongly, with a very visual (black and white) style. It is a nice choice and it adds to the whole package of the movie. While it blends genres (horror and drama), it seems to be on a good way. Unfortunately after a very good first half of the movie, the rest let's the ideas and themes a bit down. Which comes down to the story starting to lack (and being too predictable) and to the actors not being up to the task (or not getting enough challenge).

If I were only to rate the style and or the themes this tries to convey, I would have rated it higher too (as the few others who have done that already), because I do like movies who stray away from mainstream cinema as much as I like a good entertaining movie, too. But that is not the case, as I have written above. The thing is, that the movie ought to be seen more than some other movies that come out in Greece, even with its flaws. I haven't looked into the director, but it seems, like he/she is at the beginning of a nice career, if the person stays true to himself/herself, but can grab the attention and hold the suspense high throughout the movie!
