The Benefactor Factor (#4.15)

Great episode. Sheldon was being the fun Sheldon that he is ("I am just here for your money, not your germy handshakes!"). Jessica Walter was a wonderful guest star. She is absolutely hilarious. And she is also a woman who indeed managed to look attractive at the age of 70, so fitting this character. I like how Leonard ended up sleeping with her without it being for money. A nice story for an older woman. And her reason to convince him was great.

"The Benefactor Factor" is another funny ep of "The Big Bang Theory"
tavm11 October 2011
In a nutshell of this last season ep of "The Big Bang Theory": University president Siebert (Joshua Malina) sees the boys in the cafeteria and invites them to a party at his house to help get the school some funding. Only Sheldon refuses considering the e-mails he constantly writes to Siebert complaining about various things. At the party, a benefactor named Mrs. Latham (Jessica Walters) takes an interest in a project Leonard's doing and invites him to ride in her limousine. Turns out she may also want something else of Leonard...Another funny ep of "The Big Bang Theory" especially when Sheldon and Penny chime in about Leonard's situation. Jim Parsons, as usual, has the best lines as Sheldon and his delivery is perfect here. So on that note, "The Benefactor Factor" really cooks in more ways than one.

Jessica Walter plays an rich attractive older woman who controls the pursestrings for the physics department. She uses a little extortion on Leonard so he can get some fancy equipment for their lab. Sheldon is insufferable. She turns out to be quite the good character.

The Benefactor Factor

It's taken four years, but I FINALLY feel like this show is finding its feet and working out what exactly it wants to be and what stories it is wanting to tell. It's starting to use its ever growing and developing characters a bit more fully, and it's all very pleasing to see.

This plotline though is one that Chuck Lorre and co have adapted from a 'Two and a Half Men' episode. Take out Alan, add in Leonard and replace Charlie with Sheldon and you've pretty much got the same thing. Obviously that show was a bit darker and sexual with its humour, so the outcome was different, but by and large this is the same plot copy and pasted.

So progress, but not complete.
