Are Zapp and Leela going to be the new Adam and Eve?
Tweekums19 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
A deadly 'Death Sphere' has been destroying planets and its next destination appears to be Earth. President Nixon turns to Professor Farnsworth for a solution. He proposes a mission in a one man stealth ship that will enter the Death Sphere and destroy it from the inside. Leela volunteers and Zapp insists on accompanying her. They head off to the sphere but their mission fails leaving them stranded, apparently alone on an unknown planet. Leela is trapped under a tree so must rely on Zapp to help her… his first suggestion is that they get out of their sweaty spacesuits! With just a few well-placed leaves to protect their modesty they discuss how they are the sole hope for humanity as their mission failed. Meanwhile back on Earth everybody is preparing for the end when the origins of the Death Sphere are determined and it becomes apparent; as its reason for attacking planets… it is on a mission to eliminate smut from the universe.

This is a fairly funny episode although some of the jokes may be a little crude for some viewers. The scenes involving Zapp and Leela were the funniest to my mind; especially when we learn that just about everything Zapp said about their situation is untrue. The nudity is handled in a comical rather than a salacious way; certainly anybody who has seen much anime will find it fairly tame. There are some other funny moments, such as Amy's idea of what to do before the world ends and Zapp's dreams which appear to be like a 1930s black and white sci-fi serial. Overall a solid enough episode which provided plenty of laughs even if a few jokes missed their mark.

I hate the ending
firexl23 October 2011
Warning: Spoilers
So far among all TV episodes I hate two of them: this one and one of Family Guy in which Lois slept with Bill Clinton. Rebirth was a brilliant start but then followed by an episode with a "surprisingly" ending, yes, surprisingly disgusting. Since when our strong willing Captain Leela became a pushover? She cannot refuse sharing a one "man" cockpit with Zapp the Idiot, and failed to see through his super-duper idiotic tricks. Fry had done nothing in this episode and totally neglectable; his character was so different from Rebirth that nobody can tell if he was still in love with Leela or had lost his mind in 20 minutes. He can do nothing to stop his beloved making out with another man right in front of himself, but only screaming "censor it"; yes, he would probably be fine if not witnessing their mating; how crippled. I know you guys hate FOX and hate censorship (the swear at the beginning of Season 5 was great), but please don't ruin your main characters and the story line.

Poor Fry..
alpbal11 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Through out the seasons Fry sacrificed himself to save Leela numerous times and when they finally start having something romantic Leela has to sleep with Brannigan to save the earth?! Really?? That's the plot, for some reason the whole episode is to make them have sex. In front of the crew, including Fry who did nothing to stop what is happening. I'd never thought I would be angry about animated TV series, but here we are..

I would love to tell everyone why this episode stinks!
Theraxorterminate2 December 2013
Warning: Spoilers
(This review contains spoilers especially the end)

Before I saw this episode I tried to ignore it because of it's "ending" but when I didn't have anything else to do I wanted to take a closer look and find out what exactly made this episode so hated. And the result was: Yes the ending was painful and pathetic.

And just to make sure for everyone else, I saw this a pretty long time ago and the ending was so darn bad that it makes me wonder why the writers would do this? It was almost like I watched the Simpsons episode "Missionary Impossible" which the ending gives a bad ending when it seemed like Homer was going to die and it freezes because it was like everything was a show for the TV company and then we never really find out if Homer survived and it was like the writers totally ignored the episode itself and keep continuing without thinking about the scam they did.

This is pretty similar of what this episode does. Because after the episode the next episode it's like they pretend it never occurred. What happens? Well I'll tell you: Because of the act scam by Zapp the V-GINY believes that he will not destroy Earth if Leela and Zapp would mate like Adam and Eve! And Leela agrees of doing it! My goodness! And of course Fry couldn't even make it better by yelling "For God's sake, censor it!!! CENSOR IT!!!" but V-GINY declines and the ending was just depressing to see how Leela would make out with Zapp after all the hatred she had for him.

But what also bugs me is that in the end the characters seemed out of their minds and couldn't think of anything smart enough to stop the V-GINY from destroying our planet. Why couldn't they just talked to V-GINY for a better solution? Like they did on the episode: Where No Fan Has Gone Before. Or as Bender would better suggest to blow it up?

Well that's it. I'm very glad they didn't continue to do more episodes like this. This is the worst episode I know from Futurama, but after all this happening I hope we could forget this episode and not be obligatory to look at.

Just started watching Season 5. Super disappointed. Especially at the terrible ending.
clarkkerr040513 March 2011
Just started watching Season 5 on Netflix after not having the time to watch the broadcasts. I'm very disappointed at the noticeable drop in quality, both in the animation and the writing. The plot was funny, but the ending ruined the entire episode. It was so terrible, that it ruined a bit of my love for Futurama. I'm a guy that used to "Like" everything Futurama related in order to keep the show going, but with episodes like this I'm better off just re-watching the old episodes and talking with my friends about how disappointing it was that Futurama got canceled again. Futurama staff, you guys need to invite me into the studio to apologize to me for ruining my night with these terrible premier episodes...

Disappointing story, irresistible Brannigan, questionable 2D visuals, annoying subliminal ad, unexploited blossoming love story and episodic format of the lazy pink bird
igoatabase27 June 2010
As expected this second installment was a standalone episode. Its story wasn't original, an uninspired Star Wars spin-off, and only the last few minutes were hilarious. I just couldn't resist Brannigan and his black and white fantasies ! As for the jokes most of them were about sexuality and I didn't find them very funny. So don't expect the writers to pull an American Pie. An other disappointing element was the visuals because I think the mix between 2D and 3D is not well balanced. Some of the quick and dirty backgrounds just jar with the awesome cel-shading and glowing visual effects. However they're far from disastrous. I would also like to warn our younger viewers of the annoying iPod subliminal advertisement. If your little green man powered brain feels like buying one well don't ! Last but not least Fry's role was anecdotic when I hoped the writers would focus more on his new relationship with Leela. A love story always has a tremendous potential and I worry that its libidinal energy won't be exploited at its peak. So with its new but already cold recipe I don't see why Futurama wouldn't get canceled again. I mean if you don't innovate after so many years how can you expect your show to survive the demanding audience ? Moreover the ending left us with nothing to chew until next week this time so I don't feel like tuning in again.
