- At the start of the episode, the Fox News helicopter crashes into the Statue of Liberty. Meanwhile, TV channel executives talk about releasing a deadly disease called the Housecat Flu on Springfield. Homer starts to burn all the cats things, but a vaccine has now been developed, but there are not enough for everyone. Soon after, Mr Burns drives through the crowd and to the front of the line and asks for vaccines, Smithers takes them and he and Mr Burns drive off as the crowd get angry. Inside Burns mansion, the doctor tells Mr Burns that he is dying with a lot of diseases and he sets up a fancy Galla to tell everyone the news. Mr Burns tells the town the news and everyone cheers, before he tells them that he is growing a tree, with poisonous fruits in the shape of his face as a legacy and the town start melting his ice sculpture and Mr Burns goes to bed and wonders why everyone hates him. Mr Burns attempts to kill himself by jumping off a cliff, but hits a plane, before falling down a tree. The following day, Bart finds Burns in the forest and discovers that he has lost his mind and hides him in his room. Marge comes to investigate but cannot find anything. Meanwhile, Smithers drinks at a train station bar and tells the bartender about his new boss. At Mr Burns open grave, the town disrespects him by spitting into and dancing on his grave. Back at the Simpson house, Mr Burns reveals himself after his bath and Bart dries him off. Lisa then tells the family that Burns is in a state of shock and Homer wants to take advantage of him, to which the entire town agrees, apart from Lisa and she says that Mr Burns isn't what he used to be. It is revealed that Smithers new boss is the vice president, but Smithers doesn't feel the same as he did serving for Burns. Back in town, everyone gets Mr Burns for half an hour and Homer makes him follow a carrot over some girdles, but he fell off. Everyone in town takes advantage of Mr Burns, until Lisa tries to show him that not everyone in town is cruel, as Maggie attempts to shoot him again, but Lisa stops him. Lisa thought that Burns might just want to spend an hour at home and tells him that the old him wasn't nice, but he isn't like that anymore. When Burns sees a picture of himself, he remembers everything and changes back to being heartless, scaring Lisa and sitting on his chair made of skulls, which also vibrates. Mr Burns picks Smithers up and says goodbye to the Vice President and he erases Smithers memory. Inside a helicopter, Mr Burns tells everyone he is going to cover Springfield with a dome, until Lenny says it has been done and Smithers lowers the helicopter. Marge confronts Burns, saying that it may have been kindness keeping him alive. He gives Ralph a Lemon drop and he collapses to the ground. Mr Burns takes it back and goes back to normal and Burns reveals it was bile building up inside him and that hatred is the true secret to eternal life, before going up in the helicopter again and Nelson says that he wants Burns to act as his father forever and Nelson threatens Burns into cheering him on at the school play or the helicopter goes down. So Lisa and Nelson act in "Mrs Krabapples Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?" and Burns claims Nelson as "his boy".
