Really terrible episode
lachlanchandler12 May 2021
Coming from someone who is generally sympathetic to some post-season 15 episodes of The Simpsons, the episode exemplifies everything that is wrong with the second half of the series. The Glee cast cameo is forced, the songs performed by Flight of the Concords (making this episode already dated) are poor, and the jokes are unfunny enough to give you a small headache.

Modern Simpsons can still sometimes deliver, as evidenced by a few episodes from the season prior to this. Unfortunately, Elementary School Musical presents a show that's unrecognisable from episodes only eight years prior. If you're looking for some newer episodes of the Simpsons to watch, don't start here.

Lots of Fun Musical Numbers,

Warning: Spoilers
Elementary School Musical is a fantastic Simpsons with a very written storyline and loads of very funny scenes. It is a great opener for the twenty second season,I really loved all the musical numbers in the episode, particularly the ones performed by Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, better known as Fight of the Conchords, their songs were genuinely catchy and their characters dialogue were the episodes highlight.I also really liked the side story as we see Krusty,Homer and Bart stuck in Holland as Krusty is being taken to court.Elementary School Musical is a very enjoyable Simpsons episode.

Jealous that her brother and father are gone on a trip to Holland with Krusty the Clown,Lisa attends an Arts camp where her teachers let her truly express herself.

Painful to watch

Imagine telling a joke and nobody laughs, so you tell bad jokes so fast you don't have time to listen for the laughs. This is what this episode feels like. Songs are bad, all the jokes were bad, everything was predictable and the episode had no personality. This is what's wrong with The Simpsons.

Tim Long's failed attempt to save an uninspired episode
santifersan11 March 2023
The episode "Elementary School Musical" was penned by Tim Long, who has had his fair share of hits and misses with the show. Unfortunately, this episode falls squarely in the latter category, despite its desperate plea for salvation with a few good jokes and comedic details. The episode suffers from several major flaws:

Firstly, the musical aspect of the episode is poorly executed and feels out of place in the Simpsons universe. The musical numbers are awkwardly performed and fail to capture the energy and humor of past musical moments on the show.

Secondly, the ongoing Roofi joke, which has Marge acting out of character as a sappy, doting mother, becomes grating and irritating rather than endearing. It's a poorly executed gag that falls flat and undermines Marge's intelligence and wit.

Thirdly, the surreal visual gags, such as the artists descending from the ceiling flying, are forced and unfunny, leaving the audience wondering why they were included at all.

Finally, the episode also features tasteless jokes about labor dignity that miss the mark and fail to elicit any laughter from the viewer.

In short, Tim Long's attempt to save "Elementary School Musical" falls flat on its face, resulting in an uninspired and forgettable episode that fails to capture the essence of what made The Simpsons great in the first place.
