I think it was a typical "Castle" case with twists
roni_arg6 October 2011
I liked this episode. I do not live in the US and I'm not American, and I don't think the racial types were exaggerated in this ep. or anything. There are black and white people involved in the case (the accused is a black man) but I was not looking into discrimination issues and therefore I did not find any.

I think this was a nice Castle ep. The plot is triggered by a murder that Castle and Beckett investigate, with the help of the awesomes Ryan and Esposito. They find twists along their investigation that bring them back and forth among several apparent suspects until they find the guilty one, which for me was unexpected. The guy here that said the show is predictable and boring, well, he must be a psychic, you should try Medium! For me it was the pretty usual "Castle", great performances and chemistry from all the actors, good dialogs, twists and quality.

Castle was right

Warning: Spoilers
There's nothing wrong with Castle wanting to keep track of where his daughter is. I mean it's New York City... Seriously. It's nuts that he just lets her go around to wherever in the city. Also, after she admitted her friends shoplifted, I wouldn't let her hang out with them anymore. It's okay to make tough parenting decisions... You don't have to be your kid's friend. However, you still need to be there to protect them when necessary. This episode did have a nice twist...

Predictable but good episode

Warning: Spoilers
Fairly good episode if not predictable.. But after watching castle all the way through, pretty much fast forward most scenes his spoiled brat daughter is in... Castle is funny and would be fun to hang out with, but he is a pretty bad father when it comes to discipline.... Sure the writers make her out to be sooooo mature, but telling her dad, her friends names are "off the table".... What???? It's like when I see kids telling their parents NO! he is such a pushover when it comes to her. Granted she did a nice thing, but as you will see she is always getting her way, what she wants she gets. End of story.

Spoilers and series spoilers

Warning: Spoilers
This review discusses spoilers to events later in the series including Beckett's pursuit of her mother's killer.

I think it is very interesting that this episode involves Beckett and Montgomery pursuing the guilt of a very powerful city official, the DA. We already know that Beckett's been told that her mom's murder involves people very high up. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that could be people either in the police department, the mayor's office or the DA's office or likely some combination of those. Yet those warnings never come up in this episode. It doesn't matter that the person involved in Beckett's mom's murder actually has nothing to do with this DA. The point is that they never considered it. These people, especially Castle and Beckett, are not that dumb. It is also interesting that it turns out there are two unrelated officials high in the city hierarchy responsible for hiding secrets involving murder, different murders. All this is relatively minor regarding the quality of this episode, merely interesting.

I have said elsewhere that one of the things I love about this show is Rick's relationship with Alexis. We get another good look at that and it's another heartwarming moment. Alexis really is too good to be true. Her honor in this episode is way up there with almost any TV hero. And she's, what, 17, maybe 16?

I started to enter a "goof" but decided it's ambiguous. Early on Lanie says the victim couldn't have survived more than 15 minutes after ingesting the poison. She then says the victim arrived at court at 8:37 and died approximately 9:13. Beckett immediately responds "15 minutes". Because of the timing and immediacy of her remark, I took that to mean that the gap was 15 minutes which it obviously wasn't. She must have been thinking along the lines that the 15 minute window would easily fit within the 36 minutes they had to work with. It's just that the timing and emphasis was odd.

Predictable and Boring
ralph-14-42042529 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
Within the first few seconds of this episode I knew immediately what the outcome was going to be and why and there was nothing whatsoever surprising in this episode.

It was an obvious setup that the bad guys were going to be rich white people (the prosecutor was whiter than white with his white hair) and the "victims" were going to the black defendant who was equally obviously innocent and a relative or friend who broke the law by tampering with the jury but that was ignored. Boring, boring, boring.

I have been a fan of Nathan Fillion since I first saw him in the last season of "Buffy". There he played a truly evil monster with a frighteningly realistic persona serving the "First" evil (it was of course a fantasy series).

He then starred in the Firefly TV series and the movie "Serenity". His character portrayal was once again quite believable as a hard-on-the-outside black-market trader operating outside the law and following his own rules.

When he appeared in this series, I was delighted and, until recently, have looked forward to every episode with great anticipation.

It truly saddens me to say that I will no longer be following this series. The reason is simple; the writers have elected to use this program as a liberal platform to trash rich white people in utterly obvious and unsubtle ways. Consider the episode where our crushing national debt was given the OK by Stana Katics' character.

There are only three shows left on television which have not gone over to the "Dark Side" (Star Wars Reference not racial). I will not name them for fear that activists will try to influence their writing.

FYI: I am a Libertarian, not a Republican.
