No Donkey but gives a punch.
sarah-508-64942126 May 2023
Kids partying on a boat what could go wrong? Donkey Punch was the last party boat film I saw but this mini series is way more serious than that.

All the acting was on point from all characters apart from maybe Kiffy. She just annoyed me. But then is that her good acting?

Anyway cliche get on a boat find a shed load of money just floating, beggar off with it and deal with the fall out. Although the fall out is absolutely might and whilst I figured out what had happened with three episodes to go it was still an entertaining watch. The back story to why the money is floating randomly is absolutely brilliant and I never would have guessed that in a million years.

Well worth the binge and definitely more realistic than Donkey Punch.

Well shot, well acted
bcmcaleer6 June 2023
Hooked after the first 10 minutes of the first episode. Cannot praise the cinematography and ambience enough. Its a very scenic drama.

Of the main yatch crew there are a few moments I thought certain characters were sadly overshadowed development wise, which is a shame as they all are acted great. The mystery behind the drama itself was very twisty the first 4 episodes, but gets obvious pretty quickly in the latter half where you're basically left waiting for the finale to play our predictably. On balance a tremendous endeavor, and a show I'd recommend.

Not one for the seasick mind you, but the bouncing around does add to the great atmosphere. Its definitely on my top 10 list of recommended tv shows for the first half of this year.

Vexing
emily_kate113 August 2023
Two girls run away escaping the reality of what they had done.

They come across a yacht, found some fun with a bunch of random party individuals who were also escaping their own issues.

The group, by chance, or maybe not by chance, come across a boat, and find something particularly of interest to all.

They all come to an agreement about their new findings and set sail to continue their journey of island hopping.

Their new found items start to cause issues amongst them all, ultimately destroying trust, and disconnecting friendships.

As the story progresses, they run into issues on land, and at sea.

The plot thickens as some individuals attempt to change their circumstance, by escaping. However, this becomes terrifying to some.

The situation turns nasty, and some people's lives become at risk.

Not all is who you think they are.

Typical drama, way too long
hbusybee28 May 2023
This is an ok watch but has way too many episodes, 4 or 5 would have been enough The writers somehow managed to pad it out into 7!

Yes the writers are trying to create a good back story so they've added lots of drama which you do have to keep track of, as the story goes back n forth There is plenty of detail but the layers of stories in this drama aren't believable at times.

None of the characters are really that likeable, and seem to have narcissistic personalities, all together on a boat in the Philippines.

If you are looking for something to binge watch on a Sunday, then this does the job but you are not going to lay awake thinking about it or the ending.

Worthwhile

I found much in No Escape to be well done: acting, cinematography, etc. The story was fast-paced and obviously compelling enough to motivate me to watch the entire series. It was also nice to travel around on a yacht and see gorgeous scenery. The last film I recall with such breathtaking yacht views was Plein Soleil/Purple Noon (starring Alain Delon), which is set in and around the Mediterranean sea. The setting of No Escape is mostly on the seas around the Philippines, Bali, and Australia. There were a few implausibilities, but my only major complaint is that the final episode jams a bunch of gratuitous nonsense in at the very end (the curve ball about the rivalry between the brothers, etc.). All of that was totally unnecessary and in fact diminished the overall value of the work. Sometimes less is more!

Great Drama!
No escape is a Gripping drama set on a yacht, my wife and I binged it in a few days and we where on the edge of our seats! Spectacular performances from all the young leads, especially Sean Keenan as Denny. I also thought the directing was spot on across the board with a beautiful setting, (we would love to visit all of the locations!) I enjoyed all of the mystery's and twists throughout the show. I particularly enjoyed the incredible cinematography of the various tropical islands. Definitely would recommend to anyone looking for a tense drama. If there was a second season we would definitely tune in!

Or "How to ruin an idyllic life by allowing total strangers onto your yacht" ... like we all would, right? Completely implausible story involving a bunch of totally unlikeable characters. No rhyme or reason to what they do, apart from prolonging the agony of this show. Cannot recommend, unless you really have nothing better to do with your time.

Quite good but no likeable characters
sue-0623915 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This was a reasonable drama, quite tense in parts, but I really didn't find any of the characters likeable, especially the two young female leads. The scenes in the boat were good, with a gradual sense that all was not well, up until the episode where they are all off their heads in booze and ketamine. Just seemed a waste of an episode and it got boring watching them tripping out.

The scenery where this is filmed is stunning and it did keep my attention but as the characters were all so unlikeable I found I didn't really care who lived or died.

Probably the best acting in this was from Aussie actor Jay as the Captain.

Intriguing show!
oliviarog28 May 2023
My friend suggested this one to me, and she was totally right. It started out as a bit of a slow burn, intriguing, had me guessing, but then it became incredibly suspenseful as it went along. The last two episodes are so tense, I was absolutely on the edge of my seat.

I would definitely recommend this show, particularly if you like thrillers, mysteries and exotic settings. Good performances, solid direction, and one or two twists that really took me by surprise. Okay, I guessed one of the twists, but it didn't effect my enjoyment at all. I hope there's a second season because I would definitely come back for more.

[7.5] Boats, dangerously young people and repeated "come on"
cjonesas4 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
A very entertaining series with amazing flow, vibe, atmosphere and to some degree well-paced. The two girls are cringey unlikable, but they are diluted in the nice overall mystery and drama of the show (best acting by Sean Keenan).

The strongest part of it are the photographic development, pace and atmosphere, while its biggest letdown is the logic and some of its realism. Had it had more logic here and there among others the revolver bullet holes, the fall and "bodybuilder" grabbing at the end of the last episode and a better more suspenseful ending, void of emotional tattoo moments, it would have been a 2023 UK mini marvel.

Even as it is, that's a very well-made mini series and the general low ratings and too few reviews are incomprehensible.

A fine series by Paramount+

I HATE KITTY AND I HATE LANA
jack-4336221 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Omg they make this show excruciatingly painful to watch. Kitty is awful. She's the most annoying slow character ever. Someone says wake up but she takes like 5 mins to wake up... she supposed to untie a sting, she fails. I can't stand her. Slow slow slow. Such a strange show, too many episodes. Kitty is just unlikeable. The boat autopilot is switched off... because of her! Denny gets back on.... Just idiots. She won't file a police report too scared. Jesus. So illogical. I did enjoy this series but omg just that Kitty was the main thing I disliked. If possible watch on 1.25 speed. Great ending. Very psycho this show.

Very good ride
fbabka17 February 2024
It's become a norm where TV shows or mini series crawl at a snails pace and you wait until something finally happens, not here I'm afraid if that's what you're looking for.

It's a bit of a roller coaster ride let down by two main actresses as everyone points out - just bland acting the two main girls but the show has enough of good stuff to make up for it. Could have been great if the leads had more than was face/look/expression - sorry girls. Every scene this blank wide eyed stare that doesn't really say anything.

Give it a try, i'ts a great story that always leaves you wanting for more, binged on it a bit but im glad because that hasn't happened for a while.

All in all - Worth a watch 100%.

Unlikeable Lead and good story
agro_sydney10 August 2023
A good story, unlikable characters and actors with the exception of Rhianne Barretto and Jake Macapagal. A good story and mystery with a couple twists which could have been covered in 4 episodes.

The photography is beautiful as are the exotic locations.

The lead actress plays a character who is both unattractive and unlikable. The series could have benefited from a better actress in the lead who was attractive and sympathetic.

The last episode was particularly thrilling and Rhianne Barretto and Jake Macapagal played good roles. The Australian locations and Australian supporting cast were quite good

A slow burn mystery thriller.

Very unlikable main characters
amirnz8 August 2023
The prodcucers of the show missed it with casting on this one. The two girls who are also the main protagonists are extremely unlikable and are very bad at acting and delivering the dialogues. I found it extremely difficult to root for them in anyway.

The dialogues seem to have been writing by a 15 year old and lack substance. Character development is also very average and we see odd dialogue and chemistry developing among some characters.

Cinematography and direction is good but unfortunately isn't enough to save the show. Do yourself a favor qnd skip this show. There are shows out there that are miles better in every aspect.

Tense tale that was better than expected.
DazzlaMF2 January 2024
No Escape (and that's not a family Christmas)...I wasn't quite sure what I was letting myself in for as we stumbled across this while trying to recover for Christmas excesses by lying on the sofa! Don't be quick to judge I should remind myself. Two English girls, brought up in care, do a 'runner' from rainy old 'Blighty' after Christmas lunch turns turkey. They find themselves in the Philippines (although this is shot in Thailand I think), and having find themselves on a nice (if a bit old) yacht, falling in with a couple of Aussies, a German and an American who're lucky enough to be cruising the islands...but all is not quite as it seems and the plot quickly picks up pace. Who can you trust when there's a lot of cash to be had, and where's it come from? The locations are good, the acting is good, and the story is pretty good. It may sound formulaic (I think Chaucer may have been some of the source material - think avarice) but it's delivered with pace, tension and intrigue. We binged this in two sittings and really enjoyed this Anglo (Aussie/Thai I'm guessing) production.

Not really enough subsatnce for a movie. 7 episodes?
Xavier_Stone27 May 2023
Maybe they could piece together a 90 minute movie here with the plot that they started out with, and possibly it could have been better.

But no, they decided to add details upon details and pointless scenes in order to fill it out and create some sort of drama and suspense.

With mostly unlikable characters throughout, this series fails to entertain and it gets old fast, and yet most will watch to the end to see how everyone turns out.

Without giving away any spoilers, the payoff just doesn't ring true. The film is borderline fantasy with the way the characters behave and the issues they have. In the end I felt cheated.

Way to long could of been done in 4 episodes
Not a bad attempt at a show just to much padding and could of been way shorter lost interest near the end but carried on just to complete it worth a watch if you like this kinda thing but not bing worthy as drags

Acting was ok I just feel the promo and the hype for this is not living up to expectation.

Good story, poor acting by the 2 leads.
sumk-212092 January 2024
Both actresses who played Kitty and Lana were terrible, annoying and didn't fit the role. They weren't acting into the role and felt very abstract. The rest of the cast were brilliant and the story good, but given these two were the leads and watching and hearing them became like an itch you couldn't scratch, the whole series was ruined.

Was great for scenery and different cultures, would encourage stronger character performances when investing in such shows which provide wonderful scenery and insights into island hopping across asia.

The storyline was strong enough to get you in but the acting by lana and kitty was soo poor that it was hard to balance and therefore giving this a 2. If the acting was better by the leads, I'd give this a solid 7.

Don't waste your time - Sadly, I did.
stevemtupper1 January 2024
I cannot believe that I finished this show and I really regret it. Nothing makes any sense in terms of character motivation. Why the main characters would be on the run in the first place is unbelievable when it was clearly an accident. Why some of the characters would pursue the course they did when their family is so wealthy -- it would be easier and much less dangerous to simply steal from your parents. Totally predictable and totally anticlimactic. Badly executed and mediocre acting also mar any possible enjoyment. One of the episodes is so unnecessary, it is simply filler and does not advance the plot,

Avoid at all costs!!
