The tension is rising

Warning: Spoilers
This weeks episode contained a nice mix of comedy and drama. When Bruce, the Jockey's openly gay barman, takes over the management of the football team nobody is bothered apart from Chesney who's feeling on the matter are largely coloured by the fact that he believes his father was "corrupted" by Ian Gallagher. He gets even more worked up when Bruce enters the team in am all gay football tournament. While her boyfriend Ian is away at the football Maxine meets her old art teacher and ends up posing topless for one of his classes, as he takes her home she learns that he has lost his wife and his job and the school after having an affair with a sixteen year old pupil, she also learns that he wanted her too. It looks as though he will finally get to have her but at the last minute she realises that she can't betray Ian. The main drama occurs when Joe tells Jamie that he has been sleeping with Karen, to say that he isn't pleased to hear this is the understatement of the year and when he brings "somebody to see Joe" later it is clear that Jamie still has the potential to be extremely dangerous.

As this series approaches its conclusion the tension is increasing nicely, I look forward to seeing how the Karen/Joe/Jamie storyline will be resolved although I fear that whatever happens will lead to at least one good character leaving the show. The football and art teacher stories helped lightened the tone a bit although both had a degree of tension.
