Enjoyable but nothing amazing
nichster2919 April 2020
The jokes in this are sometimes funny but the plot is a bit bizarre. It also feels very unrealistic and maybe a little stereotypical of Israel but having watched the simpsons for many years I am used to the unexpected. It isn't a mind blowing episode but I enjoy it enough to enjoy the jokes and gags when rewatching it.

Simpsons travel overseas again

Warning: Spoilers
Funnily enough I recorded this episode The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed just before Christmas 2022 (ironic because of where this episode is set) and only now have I been able to watch it as it's been quite busy with everything going on in 2023 to date. The appearance of the Veggie Tales characters to Homer was hilarious and sharp. Krusty the Clown visits the G@z@ Strip Club when Lisa reveals something, and it's quite ironic and sad given the world events now in that part of the world. Sacha Baron Cohen (Comedian and actor) went a bit overboard with his guest character voice role. Anyway, this episode is worth watching once.

Worst Episodde Ever

Warning: Spoilers
Quoting Comic Book Guy, this was the "worst episode ever". I mean, the set up was great, and had real promise, until the episode took a wrong turn somewhere an ended up in the gutter. For crying out loud, there is so much to make fun of, that area of the world has so many issues, ten funny episodes could be written about it! Add to that the ridiculous inaccuracies that I would expect from a show made 20 years ago!!! There is no desert surrounding Jerusalem or even close to it! The dome of the rock is NOT sacred to Christians! The city is 50% Arabs (Muslims and Christians) and there is not one Arab character, MY GOD , they didn't even touch on the obvious Palestinian/Israeli conflict there!!!! I mean talk about taking sides, in the whole episode there isn't even the mention of the word Palestine, Palestinians, etc..

The episode could have easily been a great turning point for the declining Simpsons, instead its a new low. THANK YOU FOX!!!

Worst Guest Voiceover Ever

In fact, it's so bad I just had to comment on it. This episode is hardly a classic but it's decent enough fun, as always due to Homer's antics. However, Sacha Baren Cohen's guest voiceover as an Israeli tour guide is painfully unfunny. Despite his character talking at a hundred miles an hour, not one even remotely humorous line is uttered, just a stupid accent talking boring unfunny nonsense. Probably the worst guest voiceover to date.

A Very Different, Enjoyable Simpsons,
lesleyharris3027 May 2010
The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed is a great Simpsons episode with a reasonably well written plot and plenty of very funny scenes. It's certainly a different episode, as the family heads to Israel on a religious retreat, hilarity certainly ensues as Flanders struggles to get Homer to embrace his religion.

It does suffer from the lack of an actual plot, while the gags are very funny, they do get tiring as we, as an audience, want a story to follow. One of the highlights is certainly guest star Sacha Baron Cohen, embodying a shrewd tourist guide, he has many brilliant lines throughout. Though it's not a highlight of the Twenty First season, The Greatest Story Ever D'ohed is still great fun.

Ned talks the family in heading on a trip to Israel in order to regain Homer's religious faith, but it works out too well, as he soon becomes convinced he is the Messiah himself.

This was not simpsons to me.

What happened? what on earth happened to my favorite childhood show? The episode started off nicely, but halfway through, it started to get really rotten. I get so depressed when i watch the new episodes. Their not funny at all, nor do they even have a good plot or character development. Let's just face it, season 21 was probably the worst season the show has suffered from. If you really want my advice, just stay away from this episode, and don't bother watching it, even if your planning to watch all of season 21. The only episodes i would advise to watch in 21 is Chief of Hearts, The Bob next door, and The Whale episode, other then that, STAY AWAY FROM THE REST AND ESPECIALLY THIS EPISODE!!

Hope!
Beck5529 March 2010
After seeing the latest episode of the Simpsons I was very pleased to find, during the episode, some elements that reminded me of the earlier Simpsons. Its been many years since I had this feeling while watching the Simpsons. The story was good but the humor was what really surprised me, it was a humor that resembles the one during the Swartzwelder era. After I saw the episode I decided to watch it again to see if that sparkle of hope was really there and there it was again. Its good to see that there's still a lot of quality within the Simpsons writers after all these years and potential to turn the Simpsons to what they were, the best show on TV.

Keep up the good work.
