Rock on
ctomvelu18 May 2010
A strange episode, even for BONES. The remains of a guitarist turn up in a laundromat, which leads B&B to a rock and roll camp, led by a very strange man. This proves the least interesting part of the episode, other than having B&B get up on stage to perform together at one point. The problem in dealing with a rock and roll plot is that everything can look dated or artificial even when the episode or movie is new. As a subplot, Cam goes looking for a doctor for her adopted daughter, which leads to some truly funny bits of business. The daughter is growing up fast, and it doesn't help that the doctor they visit is a handsome, single individual who is instantly smitten with Cam.

Groupers! Really!
Hitchcoc9 February 2023
I did enjoy this episode. It takes us to another unique setting where the characters must deal with new information. Here, Brennan and Booth go to a Rock and Roll camp run by a big time guitarist. What leads to this is a body that is found in an industrial washing machine which destroys much of the evidence that could identify him or her. Booth ends up being taken in by the lure of the camp and joins in while evidence is being evaluated. This is all entertaining. The issue I have with it is that Bones is a music nut. She can play guitar. She listens to hard rock. Has a huge CD collection. Still, she has never heard of Kurt Cobain or what groupies are. One criticism I have of her character is her lack of general knowledge. The baseball thing is another thing. I don't mean she has to be a big fan of sports, but it is so pervasive in our society, she should at least have a peripheral knowledge.

Josh Todd is hot

Warning: Spoilers
Hey bonesbooth!

This review is long winded and messy, sorry.

This is one of my favorites in the series. The body this week is found inside an industrial washing machine. Booth has a dolphin tie to match Brennan's ring now. Cam is a trooper for going inside the washer. That unlocked an irrational in me at age 10. Could not catch me inside a washing machine. The testicle falling out never fails to make me laugh. Body ID this week is beyond interesting. Serial number from a fake nut is fun. Clearly someone needs to talk about sex Ed since booth thought that an eyeball fell out the washer. I love Brennans "would you rather us go back to talking about lady parts?" afterwords.

I always lose my mind when Josh Todd appears in the episode. I loved buckcherry when I was a kid. (Unrelated but Josh Todd/Dennis Leary/ Willem Defoe all have the same vibe and look similar)

The one episode Billy gibbons would have truly fit in and he's not there. I would've loved for Bones Booth and Angela's sad crime solving. Missed opportunity.

Note: if you are grossed out easily do not google devolving. Sweets and booth shaking their heads makes me laugh.

Hacker lite and Cam is one of my least favorite storylines so I will not talk about Dr. Lidner any longer.

Fantasy camps actually sounds fun to me. This also isn't the last time we see a sort of "fantasy camp" which I'm extra excited for.

The fantasy camp people has purple haired guy, mall goth girl, and other stereotypes of people attending. And I'm sorry but I cannot credit someone with "knowing music" because they understood a reference to one of the most popular Aerosmith songs.

Cue Josh Todd as Erik Dalton. Love him 10/10. Fun fact: Josh Todd actually became a phlebotomist during covid

I love when Angela's arts knowledge gets to play a part. I.e. The mummy episode and the paints. But once again. Where is Billy gibbons? He's mentioned but not seen

Bones told Dalton that she needed the carpet like he's not just in a hotel room. Also love how the character got to be sober like Todd in real life.

Thanks for making sure my daughters reproductive organs are in good health, let's have dinner cause it's "been a while". HR does not exist in this show. I hate Dr Lidner and Cam together.

Bones is confused by baseball talk this week and has a pretend sweets moment about why Arastoo and Hodgins keeps talking about it. I agree with Bones though, hitting things is fun.

Back at the camp booth is air drumming with his tie on his head. Bones needs to just accept that fantasy camp is fun. Hot blooded of course comes on and Booth convinces Brennan to join in. She to no surprise picks up a guitar and can play it.

I'm sorry but Fred is just too gullible. I won't give him points for telling his wife he wanted a break before saying he would go with the women. I'm not saying he deserved it but he was not very smart.

I'm glad the injuries are from the hardware on the guitar instead of the whole guitar itself. Angela identifies the rare guitar murder weapon and Hodgins is practically drooling.

Sweets theory was a little to deep. His motive after they interview Bebe is much better thought out and I hope she gets a lawyer to fight the grand theft charges. She didn't know how much it was worth.

Michelle and Cam's conversation is everything. I love the dynamic they have. I'm with Angela on taking that guitar apart, it's tragic. Hodgins finds a magic purple hair that of course has to be from the only person we have seen with purple hair. Most cooperative killer in history. Ending conversation is fun, Bones not liking Led Zepplin makes sense in a weird way.

This episode didn't have a lot of super exciting or dramatic storylines but I think it's such a fun episode and can be watched at any point. The guest star was great and we got some good Angela moments and I always love when she can be involved. Also Bones consistently bring up Catherine screams jealous, I'm surprised sweets didn't speak up. Overall I'd give it a 10/10 for the fun story, and rewatchability. One of my favorite filler eps.

That ain't no rock and roll, but I like it.

Warning: Spoilers
Hi, Bones Booth podcast. English Jan here.

Well, it's not every day that the team I. D a victim using a prosthetic testicle, queue puns a plenty and lots of painful looks from the gentlemen on the team.

I love that Booth is still looking to make sure that Bones will be alright as they enter the Rock & roll fantasy camp, despite Booth, who is now dating another woman. I'm with Booth when he says that this Rock & roll fantasy is not very Rock & roll. I love the Zepplin reference; maybe that was added by David, who is a massive Led Zepplin fan. I love that Booth loses his FBI cool and becomes a fan when Eric Dolton starts to play. Bones simply looks at Booth like he has suddenly grown a second head. This Rock & roll influence even extends to Dr Sweets, who practically begs Booth to allow him into the interview room with Simon Graham, which Booth allows.

I have a Bone to pick with Bones; she calls a plectrum a guitar pick, which is a piece of metal worn and wrapped around the fingers used to play the guitar. As we later discover that she plays, this is a silly mistake that she wouldn't have made.

One highlight of the whole episode is the Hot blooded scene, which Booth refers to as their song. I love that Bones points out that the last time this song was played, Booth was nearly killed; she wrongly states that the Bomb was meant for him when it was clearly meant for her since it was in her fridge in her apartment. I love that Bones goes along with Booth in singing Hot blooded and playing the guitar, which Emily took some lessons on how to play for this scene. I will not comment on David's singing; he does try. I'll give him that. I have a suspicion that they both enjoyed filming this scene.

I also find it hard to believe that at a Rock & roll camp, there is only one woman with a pierced eyebrow. But hey, at this one, that seems to be the case.

In the end scene, Bones once again mentions Led Zepplin and being offered tickets to go to their concert in London. This same concert that David himself went to, having been gifted some tickets.

Silly and Fun
mediamusings121 March 2023
Hi, The Bones Booth Pod!

When I think of memorable, "classic" episodes of Bones, this is one of the episodes that comes to mind, and is one that I re-watch frequently. It has all of the components that make for a great episode. It's written by Karine Rosenthal for starters, (yes I am biased but I think she was the best writer on the show). The case is interesting, and the A and B plots don't feel disjointed the way they sometimes do in other episodes. The episode fully utilizes every character. While I am all for Booth and Brennan centered episodes, it's nice when an episode focuses on the rest of the cast too, and reminds us that the show functions best as an ensemble.

The episode is silly in a way that feels appropriate given what the case is about, and is also fun break in between the harder-hitting or the darker/serious/sad episodes of the season. I also love watching Booth and Brennan move past some of their awkwardness post-kiss, and that they are able to let loose and sing "their" song "Hot Blooded", together.
