Mardi Gras has officially arrived. Delmond goes to Poke where the Indian costumes are being sewn. He is concerned his father Albert will not be released in time for the event. There is still the feast of St. Joseph in three weeks, and for sure Albert will be out out in the streets to display the gorgeous costumes being prepared. Lula offered a place to stay, but he has a place in the Quarter already.
Mardi Gras in the Bernette home starts with a Sofia worried about her father. Creighton wants to go out in the morning just to be by himself. Sofia ends up joining her father in a tour near the river, where six months from the devastation of Katrina still shows its ugly side. Later, the three Bernettes go out sporting blue costumes and wigs on the women's heads. Creighton is too sad to keep going, so he decides to go back home where he does another rant session to be uploaded to the internet.
Koichi Toyoma, the Japanese jazz lover, meets Antoine at a gig he performed with Ivan and Cyril Neville, from the famous family of musicians. Antoine explains how he gave his trombone to Danny. He was lucky to find his own instrument in a pawn shop. Both reminisce the glorious days. Antoine invites Korchi to a Mardi Grass drink, "Jamison and Coke", a sweet concoction, indeed.
LaDonna waits for the arrival of Larry and the kids from Baton Rouge. They head for the festivities downtown. LaDonna meets Antoine, whose wife had decided to go back home with the baby. LaDonna promised to help tend bar at Gigi's. He decides to go with her. The bar is jam packed and after it is closed, a tired LaDonna is given a massage by Antoine that turns out to be more than just making her relaxed.
Davis decides to dress as the pirate Jean Lafitte. He makes a detour to visit with his parents that are celebrating in their backyard with friends. Going into the streets, Davis meets Annie and decides to bring her to a party. Jeanette, in turn, goes out after having cooked out of her "portable restaurant". There are parties all over town.
Sonny left Annie at home with the excuse today he can do whatever he wants because of the festivity. She thinks all he wants is to drug himself out of her eyes. Sonny stops at a bar where a man asks him if he was the man from the boat. He is grateful he was saved from drowning and treats him to beer. Sonny makes eye contact with a woman at the bar. They end up doing some lines before she insists in talking him into sex.
The evening ends at midnight as the police disperses the crowds in the French Quarter. Annie and Davis end their night at Jackson Square where he proceeds to dab some dirt on her forehead, acting as a priest will do later in the day. Annie, in turn, reciprocates the action. Delmond and his date spot some Indians roaming the streets on their way home.

The running idea through the program is that in spite of the devastation New Orleans suffered, their citizens clearly love to have a good time, and what better occasion than the annual Mardi Gras? The director gets natural performances all around, especially an inspired John Goodman, as Creighton, a man whose soul has been mortally wounded in seeing his beloved city destroyed, yet intact in its spirit. The cast performs well under Mr. Hemingway's direction.
