Former Daily Show correspondent and character actor Rob Riggle will have a starring vehicle developed for him by CBS. They have been trying to find him a show for three consecutive development seasons. It t looks like this next season could be a big one for Riggle. Robert Smigel, Saturday Night Live veteran, has crafted a show and Riggle is now attached to star.
As of now the show remains untitled, but is said to revolve around a gregarious guy (Riggle) that is working as a real estate agent for the nerd he made fun of in high school. The show will be made at sister studio CBS TV Studios with Smigel, Riggle, Peter Principato and Paul Young serving as executive producers.
This makes three consecutive talent deals between Riggle and CBS. Riggle starred in Gary Unmarried alongside Jay Mohr and in Team Spitz, a pilot from last season that...

Exclusive: CBS loves Rob Riggle. For a third consecutive development season, the network has made finding a starring vehicle for the former Daily Show correspondent a priority. CBS is in negotiations for a half-hour comedy project from Saturday Night veteran Robert Smigel to which Riggle is attached to star. The untitled comedy centers on a gregarious guy (Riggle) who winds up as a real estate agent working for the nerd he made fun of in high school. The project was pitched straight to the network and will be laid off at sister studio CBS TV Studios. Smigel, Riggle, Peter Principato and Paul Young are executive producing. Riggle is under his third consecutive talent holding deal at CBS. Under his previous two, he recurred on the network's comedy Gary Unmarried and starred in last season's pilot Team Spitz, which came close to a series order, largely based on Riggle's performance. CBS promised at its upfront that it wasn't done picking up shows for next season, and it's looking like that promise is about to be fulfilled.
The network is on the verge of giving the comedy "Mad Love" a midseason order, and it's also talking with former "Scrubs" star Sarah Chalke to join the cast.
Chalke would replace "Friday Night Lights" alum Minka Kelly in the cast, according to Deadline.com. The show revolves around four New Yorkers, two of whom (Chalke and Jason Biggs) are just starting a relationship and two others (Tyler Labine and, for the moment anyway, Lizzy Caplan) who are more jaded.
The show has already gone through some other recasting -- in fact, the only constant has been Biggs ("American Pie," "My Best Friend's Girl"). Labine replaced Dan Fogler just before the pilot was filmed, and Caplan came around then as well, taking over for Ashley Austin Morris.

Updated Exclusive: CBS’s comedy pilot Team Spitz is switching a team member at the last minute. Kurtwood Smith has been cast in the pilot, replacing Bob Odenkirk. Sony TV, which produces the show, will do quick reshoots on the already completed pilot with Smith before submitting it to CBS. I hear the switcheroo was made after Team Spitz, starring Rob Riggle as the bombastic new basketball coach at an upscale private school, tested very well but Odenkirk’s character, the school’s principal written as a complete jerk and a sanctimonious bureaucrat, didn’t do well. The pilot’s producers decided to tweak the [...]...

· Congratulations to Sarah Chalke for booking her second pilot this season. The Scrubs alum will play a quirky-but-beautiful guidance counselor in CBS's high school comedy Team Spitz opposite Rob Riggle's football coach (I'm guessing he plays Spitz?). Two months ago, Chalke was cast in an ABC sitcom pilot called Freshman, about three freshmen members of Congress who live together in D.C. There, Chalke will play a quirky-but-beautiful former big business VP. [EW]

Everyone wants a piece of Sarah Chalke. Sources confirm to me exclusively that the in-demand Scrubs vet — who already scored a starring role in the ABC sitcom pilot Freshman — has booked a second pilot, the high school-set CBS comedy Team Spitz. Chalke, who is technically billed as a guest star since the project is in second position to Freshman, will play a guidance counselor. The cast also includes Daily Show alum Rob Riggle as football coach.

Reporting on fake news has officially become the most effective stepping stone into primetime television.
Following in the hilarious footsteps of Steve Carell and Ed Helms (The Office), as well as Rob Riggle (new CBS show Team Spitz), Jason Jones is the latest correspondent from The Daily Show to land a starring sitcom role.
The comedian will anchor in ABC's comedy pilot How to Be a Better American. It centers on a father (Jones) that embarks on a mission to be a better person, dragging his family along for the ride.
Jones has worked with Jon Stewart on the Comedy Central fake news program since 2005. He's appeared on How I Met Your Mother and is married to another pretend journalist, Samantha Bee.

Jones, who has worked on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show With Jon Stewart" since 2005, co-penned a comedy project for CBS with his wife and fellow "Daily Show" corespondent Samantha Bee last season, which was eyed as a potential starring vehicle for them. It’s no secret we love TV. We watch it, talk about it, review it and generally spend a lot of time with it. So, it should come as no surprise we’re very interested in what new shows may potentially be coming to the networks in the near future.
Fortunately, we don’t have to do a lot of work to find out, and you have to do even less, because the guys and gals at EW have gathered together lists of all of the 2010-2011 season pilot orders for ABC, CBS and NBC. Wasn’t that nice of them? Yes, yes it was.
Just between these three networks (we’ll bring you Fox and the others, including cable, later), 31 dramas and 29 comedies are being considered. What shows will make it to the Fall schedule is still anyone’s guess, and we’ll have to wait until May to find out,...

CBS may have created two of the most popular new series this season - NCIS: La and The Good Wife - but the network still has some bare spots to contend with (we hardly knew ye, Three Rivers!) Not one to stray from its bread and butter shows, the network's got a Criminal Minds spinoff in the works plus a new project from CSI honcho Carol Mendelsohn, but all eyes are on its redux of Hawaii Five-o starring Lost's Daniel Dae Kim. And don't think CBS is resting on its laurels with the (unfathomable) success of Gary, Unmarried...
