Walter's Greatest Fear Realised
XweAponX5 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
This is the focal point of the whole series: This Episode is what Walter feared the most: And also what September feared as well.

Three Shapeshifters arrive on "our" side: But one of them is still in embryonic form. Two Teenagers outside smoking "Red Zinger" marijuana see the odd lights, the boy goes in and is instantly absorbed: The Girl, shortly after.

This Leaves one unformed Shapeshifter for Walter to dissect.

What is important here, is that the relationship between Peter and Walter has reached a new height: Peter starts calling Walter "Dad" which he had never done. This pleases Walter: But what neither of them know, is that this new connection is in dire danger from the moment these shape-shifters arrived.

As Walter and Peter and Olivia and Astrid race to figure out what Newton is up to this time, Newton is setting up for the a major event: The arrival of "The Secretary" and at this juncture, we do not know the identity of this person.

Walter, with the help of "Brandon-Nerd," remembers something about sending material to the other side: And Brandon shows them something they had not taken into account: That the universes must be in Time-Sync. This was hinted at in S2e1 and S2e4 - Belly called them "Time Shifts" but in actuality, it was just Olivia's clock getting adjusted to the timing of the other side.

The "Instructions" which were in a transmission at the time the shape- shifters arrived, Walter partially decodes. They include a time: 3:31pm. So Something is gonna happen at that time, it is up to Fringe Division to find out where.

Using basic detective work, they do find out where: It is a partially disassembled Bridge across a river.

Walter had remembered that in sending the objects over, they had to have three tuning forks of the same pitch vibrating at the same time, and the area in the middle would be the place where the crossing over would occur.

So with all these things in place, they find the Bridge where it will happen. Walter had created a pneumatic hammer that would vibrate with a cancellation frequency: But things simply happen too fast, Peter is left on the Bridge: Exposed to the frequency of Newton's Machine: Which Walter had told him would rip him apart. But in fact, it does not. But an FBI agent on the bridge is vaporised! And it does not affect "the Man from the Other Side."

With just these clues, Peter figures it all out: He's not from this side, thus realizing Walter's Greatest Secret and Fear.

This is what Walter and The Observers feared the most: Because Peter leaves the protective covering of Fringe Division, leaving Newton free to pursue him... Across the "Northwest Passage."

Who Came from the Other Side?
claudio_carvalho2 March 2017
Two teenager are smoking grass in a car parked at an abandoned area. Out of the blue, they hear a noise in a warehouse and the youngster Dave decides to snoop around. A shape-shifter catches him and assumes his form while another one catches his girlfriend Jill to use her body. When the teenagers are found dead with three marks on the palate, the Fringe Division investigates the case and soon they find a shape- shifter embryo at the warehouse. After a visit to the Massive Dynamic, they conclude that Thomas Jerome Newton is the responsible for the transference. Further, he is trying to bring something big from the parallel universe that will be synchronized with our universe. Now they have to find where the transfer will happen.

"The Man from the Other Side" is another intriguing episode of "Fringe". Now Peter has discovered the truth that Olivia and Walter have tried to tell him. But the great question is who has come from the other side? My vote is eight.

The Fan Is Finally Hit
Hitchcoc2 November 2023
There are two distinct point of interest here. The global on is that the shape shifters are trying to get someone from one universe to the other. Success in this would be catastrophic (or at least highly unpredictable). Three of these folks come in, but one is unformed, like a sixty pound embryo, yet unborn. So the gang must spring into action to disrupt the passage. Walter has a method. This leads to the information that Walter has feared, the realization by Peter that Walter is not his father, that he was pulled in when he made the jump. Peter was a mess when this series started, a sarcastic jerk. He grew to love Walter. Both Liv and Walter wanted to tell him but the seriousness of their work always got in the way. The kicker for Peter was that his mother was a suicide, not an accident victim. It will be interesting to see where Peter fits in as the series continues.

How many more times are they going to make the same episode?
truebatmantd17 February 2023
I've never seen a show as repetitive as Fringe and this is another repetitive episode we've seen before. We've already seen shapeshifters and we've already seen the whole "parallel universe is trying to bring something back from their universe to ours" storyline to death already.

This show is getting really boring and writers are running out of ideas so they are recycling the same ideas over and over and no one except diehard fans of this show are enjoying this.

This is also why the ratings took a plunge around this time. They made a show that repeats the same storylines over and over and most people got bored and stopped watching at this point.
