Painfully bad
mike-ryan45525 March 2011
Summary: The movie was bad. Don't watch it unless you really are desperate.

Details: This is a steampunk version of Moby Dick where they follow the dragons in a huge wagon across snow covered mountains to chase and lance dragons.

People love to complain about the special effects in SyFy channel movies. I found it adequate, better than older Science Fiction classics like Forbidden Planet. The acting was not great but that wasn't what killed the movie. It was the script. It was horrible, rank even by SyFy channel's low standards.

You don't need a huge budget to make a wonderful Science Fiction movie if you have a good script. The Man From Earth is an outstanding example. A cast of eleven and no special effects, yet it was marvelous. This had a comparatively huge budget with costumes, sets, scenes, special effects explosions, everything except a decent script.

We all know that SyFy loves to inflict bad movies on its audience. Why it only chooses such rank scripts, I have no idea. But this one should have been rejected even by them. You can't take a classic story that has been done so well by so many and just do a plot less, trash version without being laughed at.

What a horrible, horrible movie
Tim85127 March 2011
I thought the basic idea to remake Moby Dick in a slightly steam-punk version with dragons was intriguing enough. Sure, this is probably not gonna be a film for the ages, but it could be entertaining for ninety minutes.

But it's just horrible. Oh so horrible. The acting is some of the worst I have ever seen, if I account for the fact that they did indeed use professional actors. Danny Glover and Vinnie Jones have never been praised for their craft when playing the shallow roles they've played before. Here now, they are cast in character roles and that is a disaster. Jones tries to summon some gravitas by constantly suckling on this wee pipe of his and it looked ridiculous. The other male actors are underwhelming at best. They seem to have been selected because they all resemble other (more talented) actors.

The female lead was clearly cast based on "Who was the hottest chick that showed up?" Her acting is the worst.

The screenplay is just clown shoes. But the real highlight of this thing is the "ship". It looks like a carrack without sails, but wheels instead. It moves forward by means of ... erm, nobody knows. At the very least, they should have lamp-shaded it. But no.

This thing is only a 2/10 because the dragon special effects are somewhat decent. Somewhat. Otherwise it would be a 1/10.

A Waste Of Time
Azuria-Vita12 June 2011
This movie is so full of clichés that it could actually be a spoof.

  • Bad acting (especially the main characters with their permanent "WTF??" look on their faces)That's why Danny Glover seemed like he was overacting cause he was one of the only talented actors in the movie.

  • From the beginning almost everything that will happen later is obvious

  • The good-guy & the cool chick everyone has a crush on are the main characters (as always)

  • Almost nothing that happens has a deeper meaning or reason

  • Most of the characters are so flat that you will be disappointed if you want to know a lot about their background stories.

  • Many things the characters do don't make any sense

If you have never seen a movie before or if you want to have a good laugh you might like the movie.

The movie was funnier than its Outtakes. Without wanting to be.

Standard Syfy Fare
salahwam22 March 2011
This adaption of Melville's Moby Dick is neither great nor terrible, it's OK. It's set in a medieval like world, where people hunt dragons for their vitriol (fire juice?) that helps run its machines and lamps. CGI dragons, boats that run on roads, and the usual crappy script. The acting is OK (Glover was a little over the top, Vinnie Jones was surprisingly OK), the story was predictable, the pace was slow at times but not too bad. All in all, a mediocre movie about dragons. Not as thrilling as Reign of Fire, but not as horrible as Dungeons and Dragons. I would say it's slightly worse than Eragon, if that's any indication. You won't claw your eyes out at the end, but you won't watch this again. Strictly for dragon lovers.

Missed at everything
mani-nanna-650-1573487 April 2011
there were few reasons for why I decided to watch the movie (Despite warnings from my clever friends, who I should listen in the first place).

Reason #1: I like 2 actors who took part in this movie, they are Danny Glover and Vinnie Jones. They're not biggest actors in the world but they are likable fellows who certainly know how to entertain audience.

Reason #2: I like steam-punk and fantasy genres and the movie was promising to mix those two.

Reason #3: I think that Moby-Dick is one of those literature classics that is hard to dislike or hard to be unknown for almost anyone, even the most uneducated people, so it is always interesting when another version of the story occurs on the screens.

So I had 3 great reasons to watch the movie. Favorite actors, favorite genre and the masterpiece, on which the story is based.

I don't know how they managed to screw this, but EVERYTHING in this movie went wrong right from the start.

Actors who knew how to act had nothing to work with. Main character was screaming and begging for overacting and Danny didn't deny him the pleasure. Jones tried to act (his biggest mistake) but that's not what we love him for, so he failed. Other actors weren't actors at all. Maybe they have diplomas, but they didn't act. Oh... and the chick... well, the chick was hot.

The movie is steam-punk without steam, and it's fantasy, only because there are dragons. I can understand how the vagon/ship thing moved though. It was this vitriom (or something) that made it move but they never say a thing about it. The screen was absolutely stripped off by fantasy elements as well. The action was almost non-existent, landscape and surroundings were cheap and the world didn't have anything that makes you dig deeper into the particular universe's lore. Well... at least the chick was hot.

While the plot was based on Moby-Dick, it was stripped away from most interesting points, lowered down to some stupid cheap revenge-story and all the weight of explaining the meaning of the book was thrown at Glover's back. The old man just can't carry that much. Well, the bright side of this was the fact that the chick was hot.

What else can we tell about hour and half of my lost life? That this movie will hardly please anyone, except guys who were paid for making it.

I was going to give this movie 2 stars, instead of one, for only reason: The chick was hot... BUT... God damn it... We didn't even see her naked...

Don't waste your time
dsprogis24 March 2011
This adaption of Moby Dick was terrible! I love SciFi and watched the whole thing anyway. Basically, it's dragons in stead of whales and a white dragon in stead of a white whale. It features a crazy land-ship that's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside; it sleeps eight people in separate quarters, kitchen/dining/storage and office in a vehicle the size of a bus. Propulsion of the ship left me scratching my head too - no sails, no horses pulling it, no steam engine, it just rolls on wooden wheels in an age of harpoons and cross bows - I didn't get it. The effects were reasonably good. I liked most of the actors. But the premise, story line and dialog were so bad that it took down the entire movie to a (1) "awful".

An extremely loose adaptation of Herman Melville's classic novel set in a Middle Age with plenty of dragons
ma-cortes4 August 2021
Agreeable retelling in which Captain Ahab commands a surly ship of dragon hunters through sheer ruthlessness and ego . So-so rendition about Herman Melville novel with passable acting from the cast . In this re-imagining , Ahab is revealed initially not as a bitter and revengeful madman but a strange and weird man . This saga features the survivor of a lost ship who relates the tale of a white dragon and the captain Ahab's obsession with desires for vendetta upon the greatest animal . It starts in a village , where arrives a novice named Ishmael (Corey Silver) who signs aboard the dragon ship Pequod . Here shows up the classic personages from the vintage novel : Ishmael (Corey Sevier) , Stubb (Vinnie Jones ) , Flask (Bagby), Queequeg (Kepa Kruse) , Starbuck (David Morgan), Peter Coffin (McKay Daines) . Exception for Rachel (Sofia Pernas), Ahab's adopted daughter, is a fictitious character . As Captain Ahab (Danny Glover) drives the crew deeper into the heart of darkness. He has a self-destructive obsession to hunt the white dragon . Ahab consecrates his life to hunt it full of hating and vengeance . Soon enough , Ahab aware about the great white dragon and claiming vendetta on the beast that scarred him , no matter what the cost to himself , his crew or ship .

Yet another take on of Melville's classic battle of wills story . The picture is a fine adaptation of the famous novel well scripted/adapted and ably realized . This impressive adaptation based on Herman Melville's 1851 classic novel is vividly brought to screen , though it has some flaws , gaps and failures . Dealing with the interactions between captain Ahab and his crew , freely based on the novel Moby-Dick written by prestigious author Herman Melville , that results to be one of the most thrilling and moving see sagas ever written . Here replacing the attractive tale of life on the high seas for snowy and wood landscapes and in particular on board a dragon-hunt ship named 'Pequod' . Danny Glover gives an acceptable acting as Ahab , reflecting his deep determination to seek avenge . Writers McKay Daines , Gil Aglaure, Anne K. Black wrote screenplay and story that was partially faith to the novel by stamping this movie with thought-provoking dialogs and colorful images . Enjoyable recounting , including quite a few moments that click make this especial movie more than watchable . The FX experts created a great dragon made by means of ordinary computer generator. Cameraman/filmaker Ryan Little uses appropriate color cinematography and splendidly conveys the bleaker qualities of the chase . The motion picture was professional but regularly directed by Ryan Little , though with no originality . He's a nice director working usually for television . Ryan was presented with a Student Emmy at the 1999 Academy of Television Arts & Science College Television Awards, for "Best Dramatic Film": The Last Good War . Little has directed a few but decent movies such as ¨Outlaw Trail: The Treasure of Butch Cassidy¨ , ¨House of fears¨ , ¨Forever strong¨, ¨Age of the dragons¨ and ¨"Saints and Soldiers : Airbone creed" that is the sequel to the award-winning ¨Saints and soldiers¨ and the third part titled ¨Saints and soldiers : the void¨ .

Other renditions about this famous novel are the following ones : 1930 rendition by Lloyd Bacon with John Barrymore , this is the first production of "Moby Dick" to have a leading female character , Joan Blondell . ¨Moby Dick (1959)¨ by John Huston , an over-the-top rendition of Herman Melville's high seas saga with a sensational Gregory Peck as unforgettable captain Ahab . It's remade in 1998 TV series by Franc Roddan with Patrick Stewart , Henry Thomas , Bill Hunter and Gregory Peck who takes on the character of Jonah-and-the-whale sermonizing Father Mapple who in classic adaptation was vividly played by Orson Welles . And Miniseries ¨Moby Dick 2011¨ by Mike Binder with William Hurt , Ethan Hawke , Eddie Marsan , Gillian Armstrong . Furthermore , recent lousy rendition full of computer generator FX titled Moby Dick 2010 directed by Trey Stokes starred by Barry Bostwick and Renee O'Connor .

Bad
clight7726 March 2011
This was perhaps the worst movie i have ever seen,no plot, bad acting, bad everything. Do not know why Danny Glover ever stooped so low as to do this. Must have been to help new up and coming actors is all i can think. The only thing 1/2 decent about this movie were some of the graphics. The ship rolling over the tundra was just to bizarre. Who would put up money for a movie like this? I can view a lot of crap, but this one had me pulling my hair out after the first 5 minutes.I had to force myself to finish it,hoping it might eventually get better, but it never did,if anything it got even worse and i did not think that, that could be possible.

a dragon flick to pay danny's rent
bobcurling200127 March 2011
i gave this 1 out of 10,the acting was bad really bad, the script was bad really bad,,, i wont even bother continuing on with this theme suffice to say nearly everything in this movie is bad but in saying that the dragon effects are actually OK.

danny glover must have been having a quiet couple of days when this movie was being shot and it must only have been a couple of days as hes not on screen a whole lot and when he is, hes massively hamming it up.

this is possibly vinny jones's best performance, nuff said. i didn't recognize anyone else in the movie so i wont comment on their lack of ability.

if i sound overly critical its because i like to watch crappy cheapo sci fi movies and the thing is that in most movies i see i can always find something good, it might be one particular actor/actress or some nifty camera work or more often that not just a good concept, this movie had none of those not one.

Not Worth The Acting !
aflrunner31 March 2011
It started out fine, the Camera work, Animation and all the effort put into the visual aspect of the movie was GREAT, in fact at times seemed FANTASTIC !, but the Acting was a DOGs Breakfast, brought down the whole plot !. As i watched this visually pleasing movie, I only prayed the acting would get better and well it didn't, all i could think of was how they tried to implement "BOOK" dialog into a MOVIE, almost WORD FOR WORD, WHAT WERE THEY THINKING ???, The funniest part is when some of them don't know how to express their emotions, I mean the whole plot was confusing to say the least, how did that thing even move for days...?, a 4x4 under the hood ?, no smoke or wind or horse driven, then how the hell does it move, show us something..., this thing is a JOKE !

Best original Syfy movie I've seen.
rd14858 August 2011
I'm used to seeing Syfy originals with fluffy script, pedantic acting, unimaginative imagery, and plastic feel. Age of the Dragons, in my opinion, is in the top tier, and arguably the best Syfy original I've ever seen. Plot lines and character development are mature. The script is intellectual, most of the acting matches feature-film levels, and the CG effects are solidly believable. Danny Glover is excellent. Sofia Pernas is eye-grabbing. Atmosphere flows convincingly. Morphing Moby Dick into a dragon hunt really worked for me. The only thing which wasn't explained is how the land boat was powered. Still, that's a small complaint. I enjoyed this fantasy film, it was worth my time.

A rather good fantasy movie...
paul_haakonsen15 June 2012
Despite the very low rating this movie had received here on IMDb, I still decided to give it a go. Why? Well because it was a movie with dragons, and I do like fantasy movies and dragons as well, and also because I have been playing Dungeons & Dragons for some odd 25 years or so by now, so anything that just remotely smells like something in that genre does spark an interest in me.

I am puzzled at why the movie have scored such a low rating. I found the movie to be rather good. It had a good story, and yeah, it is basically just a re-make of the "Moby Dick" story. But so what? Hollywood have pumped out re-makes of old movies by the dozens these last couple of years, so why not also another re-make of "Moby Dick"? (One that wasn't as bad as the "2010: Moby Dick" movie!) In "Age of the Dragons" you just change the white whale out with a white dragon, and set the story into a fantasy-medieval setting. I found it interesting enough. And also, there was a very great feeling to the environment, as they had really managed to capture the essence of what I believe a fantasy-medieval setting (with dragons) would actually be like (of course, I am leaning much on my Dungeons & Dragons experience here).

The effects in "Age of the Dragons" were great. The dragons looked real and believable, as did the wyverns. However, one thing did jab a thorn in my side. As an avid role-player of the Dungeons & Dragons game, I am accustomed to white dragons breathing intense cold, not fire. So that was sort of something that didn't sit well with me. But of course, I am familiar with the stereotypical mythological approach that all dragons breathe fire, so it was alright. Just would have been cooler (no pun intended) had it been a breath of deadly cold instead.

As for the acting in "Age of the Dragons", well I though people did good jobs, and they had managed to put together a rather good ensemble of actors and actresses actually. The role of Ahab was played by Danny Glover, and I think he actually pulled this off quite nicely. But also, Vinnie Jones (playing Stubb), Corey Sevier (playing Ishmael), Sofia Pernas (playing Rachel), Larry Bagby (playing Flask) and Kepa Kruse (playing Queequeg) did great jobs. I especially enjoyed Kepa Kruse's performance and his somewhat odd character, that really brought some flavor to the movie.

"Age of the Dragons" was also a movie full of visual treats. The town was nice to look at, and it really had that unique touch to it, making it believable as if you were there in fantasy-medieval times. But the scenery once the group ventured out into the wilderness in search of the great white dragon, that was just breathtakingly beautiful. I do love the scenery of snow and snow-clad majestic mountains.

I was a little bit puzzled by Ahab vessel. A huge metallic boat-like vehicle? Alright, sure, great enough idea. But just how was the vessel propelled? What forced the wheels to go round, there was no sign of any type of engine, mechanical or alchemical of any sorts. And also, the vessel looked rather small when seen outside, but inside it seemed to easily fit the entire crew and then some. So in my opinion there was a matter of questionable reason in the dimensions of this odd vessel.

But aside from that, then I found "Age of the Dragons" to be rather interesting and entertaining. And if you do like fantasy movies, then I definitely would recommend this movie, despite it being a re-make of "Moby Dick".

agonizing
cradle_of_filth_tb10 April 2011
A poor dragon tale based on Moby Dick. At first I was intrigued by the title, it sounded like it could be something and I began watching it with hope.Big mistake... The acting was horrible,I don't even find words to describe how bad it was. The whole movie was painful , the only thing that was fair in it was the dragon effects but it disappointed there to, i would expect a lot more damage from a 3 stories tall beast. And I think the script was took straight from the book, no editing , no nothing. It hurt my brain while I was watching it, so spare yourself the pain and don't watch this movie. I hope this year will bring more quality movies from now on because if more movies like this one will be produced I will refuse to watch another movie again...and you should do the same

Just when you thought it was safe to switch over to the SyFy channel again.......
Rob_Taylor12 May 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I'd like to say there are spoilers in this review, but that would be a bit like writing a review of Titanic and wondering whether you should mention the ship sinks. In other words...bloody obvious to everyone. So with this latest SyFy (I'll never get used to that spelling without giggling at the idiocy of it) effort it will come as little surprise to anyone familiar with their movie outings that it is beyond awful.

For a start it seemed like it might be a valiant attempt by SyFy to do something worthwhile. Retell Moby Dick with a fantasy setting as a backdrop and make the whale into a dragon. Cast Dany Glover and Vinnie Jones and make it, for SyFy at least, halfway respectable.

However, once the novelty of Hermann Melville's classic transposed to fantasy wears off, the viewer is left hunting for things that make the effort of sitting and continuing to watch worthwhile. Sadly, the only thing that made this possible for me was the presence of Vinnie Jones.

Now, Vinnie is hardly what you'd call an accomplished actor. With his accent, looks and rep he's limited to thuggish hard man roles. At least SyFy didn't try to play him against type and here, as in his other similar roles, he carries off the role quite well. No awards, but his enthusiasm is infectious and it kept me watching.

At least, right up until his character perished.

After that, it becomes painfully obvious that the rest of the cast, including Glover, have about as much chance of carrying the film as a paper bag has of carrying water. And, like the metaphorical bag, the movie becomes a soggy mess that falls apart very quickly.

Beyond dear Vinnie's character's demise, the movie quickly becomes stale and dull. It becomes a chore to watch the rest of it. The acting is wooden, apart from Glover, who mugs atrociously and seems intent on playing Ahab as an Alzheimer's sufferer. But the rest are no better.

As for the effects, they are about as convincing as you might expect for the SyFy channel, which is to say, grimace-inducing. Is it only me that yearns for the good old days of stop-motion animation? But even the CGI dragons have more acting talent than some of the cast.

All in all not a very good movie. In fact pretty awful. A nice premise ruined by bad acting, shoddy effects, lack of money and most of all, lack of people who care about what they are doing.

How lame can one drop to.
Ultack10 May 2011
The clown used Moby-Dick to write that cheap copy. So low that he didn't even took the time to read upon dragons and applied the color of Moby-Dick to the dragon, a white dragon breathing flame, yeah right. Even the characters have the same name as the original story, how lame can one be. The work of a moron copying a masterpiece. Read the original or watch the famous movie featuring Gregory Peck, the best movie adaptation of the book. I hate this trend that lately emerged. Don't create new original stories just do remakes of what worked before or use classic and rewrite them in cheaper version for the lament. No wonder the new generations are dumb as nail since they are fed cheap version of classics instead of the real deal.

Why all the hate? Its pretty decent...
destroyerwod17 July 2011
I don't understand all the hate and the 1/10 for this movie. Sure it won't be my movie of the year, or i can't say i was amaze by it, but i was sure entertained. The special effect are better than what i expected for a movie i came across randomly without any theatre release. The chicks is hot and i like her character just like Ishmael. People complain about the acting, maybe its cause i watched the movie in french(dubbed) but it was very correct, nothing to complain on this...

Basically i watched this at late night whitout expecting much and i was entertain and liked it. I saw way worse movie with bigger budget, and even winning Oscars...(ahem... hurtlocker...)

"You could call me that."
HotToastyRag20 October 2021
Bring on the cheese! Age of the Dragons is a take on Moby Dick, with the replacement of the whale with a great white dragon. So, in snowy surroundings, cloaks, long hair, bows and arrows, and heavy music, you can expect all the epic drama in the world, right? Well, when Corey Sevier shows up a few minutes in and a grizzly old fellow in the tavern asks if he's Ishmael, he flips his hair, smirks, and says, "You could call me that." It's hilarious!

Unfortunately, this movie isn't supposed to be hilarious. But I couldn't stop laughing. I apologize if anyone involved in this movie reads my review, but hopefully they'll be glad I actually sat through it and was entertained. It might be the cheesiest flick that was supposed to be serious I've ever seen. With the exception of Danny Glover, the entire cast acted as though they were in a fantasy-spoof. Poor Danny put his whole heart into his part. I can imagine his agent calling and asking if he wanted to play Captain Ahab in a Moby Dick remake, his enthusiasm must have dimmed considerably when he attended the first readthrough and heard the quality of acting present in his costars.

Some people out there enjoy watching bad movies. If you're one of them, you might really enjoy laughing at and making fun of this one. You'll get to see dragons, blood and guts, and battle scenes, but you won't get to see much in the way of serious drama.

an insult to a classic!
Rasalgheti_200014 October 2012
catered only 10 minutes watching this "movie" to realize that they had completely tainted the novel Moby Dick. Oh God, Mr. Melville must kick in his grave every time this "movie" is projected or seen or even mentioned. It is truly remarkable that Hollywood screenwriters, are empty minded completely out of ideas, and every day the only thing that matters is to put one or two fairly known actors, some cgi some muscular guy and a hot girl in a "movie" to assure the investment. The era of smart movies with meaning, with a moral lesson has ended, I am 42 years old, and I must say that my generation was the last which saw a movie with sense.

Pass this one up, you'll be glad you did.
page-nix21 August 2012
I can honestly say that this movie ranks among the worst movies I have ever seen. The spin on Moby Dick is clear from the beginning, but the writing is atrocious. The costumes and characters cross time eras and geography inconsistently. They cross the lands in a motorized tank-like ship during an era when travel is clearly done by foot or horseback although I guess their budget didn't allow for horses since none are ever seen. The writing is horrible and the movie lacks enough action/cgi/comedy to convince you to suffer through it. I cannot think of a single tension breaking comedic moment although there is no tension to break, so I suppose it didn't matter. The movie is full of worthless and verbose dialog. Every scene was contrived and predictable. Every character was a cliché, and I'm trying to be kind considering that it's a different spin on a classic story.

Made my 8 year olds, apparently.
chris-laymon16 August 2012
For the past 20 years, the worst movie I had ever seen was White Fang (6.5 stars on IMDb? Seriously?). As of last night, I now have a NEW worst movie.

I rated this movie a 2 only because the visuals were decent. The movie was horrible otherwise. I figured Danny Glover wouldn't be in anything with this terrible of a script, but maybe he was trying to stretch his acting chops or something. Well, stretch he did...way overly intense on his lines. Seemed like he was trying to summon some sort of stage actor vibe, which didn't work well on screen.

The girl was one of the worst in the movie. Looked like she had about a half inch of makeup on and really heavy lipstick, which made her look out of place in this time period. Her acting was OK at times, but other times I literally laughed. "When this reacts with air, it WILL explode..." Oh, boy...

All in all, the movie was junk. I rented it on redbox for $1. Wish I could get that $1 back. ;)

Another disaster from Daines
lion-653-6726477 April 2013
Actually, I didn't seek this film out, it was on TV, as I remember. Yes, I'm trying hard to forget it. Had I known this Daines chap was involved, I would have flipped channels. Seems like everything this guy touches turns into manure. And who would want to watch manure.

How can a reasonably good story be so messed up when writing the script? Again, who wrote the script? Daines. So is it any wonder it turned out so badly? Garbage in, garbage out. The budget must have been nickels and dimes too.

A suggestion, when you see the same name on a string of losers, take the hint, avoid films with his name on it. Avoid any and all films with the name "Daines" associated on it. If not then you too will waste time, and later wish you could forget that bad taste it left. Too bad IMDb doesn't allow for negatives, like -10/10.

Decent
rnewcomb21 October 2012
I could not disagree more strongly about the review I read about this film. Saying it was not a good film is not accurate at all. 1st knowing somewhat of what can go into a film, this had all of the elements I was looking for. The sets looked perfect. I was not 100% sold on the "ship", but as the story went along, the more it worked for me.

Is it an indie film? Well yes, but it's a good indie film that takes on a genre that is not an easy one to do. I enjoyed the characters and the new take on classic story. At times the Dragons in the film looked perfect - just as good as anything I've seen coming out of Hollywood. The fighting looked legit and you can see that the actors put 110% into this project.

Could I point things out, well sure, but overall I had a good time with this film. It was simplistic entertainment.

Looking forward to seeing what else these guys come up with!

For a B movie just above SCIFY channel quality this is actually not that bad. Inventive rework of Moby Dick. I say B
cosmo_tiger14 June 2012
"Only one man will live to tell the tale of Ahab, one man only." Ishmael (Sevier) is a hunter. He has hunted every animal in the world except one. He decides to join the crew of Ahab (Glover) in an effort to hunt down and kill a dragon. The crew signed on for just a simple hunt that will net them a lot of money but Ahab has a different reason. I have to admit something first. I am 33 and have never read (or even seen a movie) Moby Dick. I know the basic story but none of the specifics. Going in to this one I was expecting much lameness mainly because of the fact that this is retelling of Moby Dick with dragons instead of whales. I thought how could this be good, and it seemed like a SYFY channel movie. Based on those expectations I have to admit that I was actually pretty surprised at how entertained I was by this. This is a definite B movie with a decent cast but it really sucked me in and I was enjoying myself the entire time. Fans of the real Moby Dick may be turned off by this, but I actually enjoyed this. Overall, a low budget SYFY channel-esqe movie but surprisingly entertaining. I can't believe it but...I give it a B.

Worst Movie Ever
blopez8317 June 2013
I have never in my life quit watching a movie. The acting in this movie is the worst, the lines are dull and there is no real emotion from any of the characters except for Ahab.

After 30 minutes I expected this to get better, but an hour into the movie I just gave up. The script is badly written and the acting is even worse.

I started to watch this movie as I do like some characters like Danny Glover and Vinnie Jones. They have been in great movies, but this one it really really bad.

Not recommended to anyone.

Age of Dreadfulness
Chrysanthepop6 May 2011
'Age of the Dragons' claims to be an adaptation of Herman Melville's 'Moby Dick'. I didn't even realize it until the very end because I had lost interest long since to even bother to care. When I started watching it, I didn't have a clue of what it was about. Thankfully, I was busy doing other activities so it wasn't an entire waste of my time. It's not even one of those movies that are so bad they're funny. This is just plain boring. The poor special effects, dreadful acting, horrendous costumes, the irritating dialogues and lousy editing add more reason to dislike this. I would have at least expected a decent performance from Danny Glover but he is laughably bad. The only decent acting comes from Yanique Bland who is, unfortunately slayed by a dragon in the very beginning. I wish these supposed filmmakers would stop giving fantasy and science fiction by producing crap like this. Recently, there just seems to be an abundance of movies of this kind and that has got to end.
