With #7.13 having established that Tony and Ziva *did* share a bed in Paris (but refusing to tell anything "incriminating") and #7.14 ending just *before* Gibbs locked lips with Rena Sofer's hot lawyer (sorry, I *forgot* the character's name and rather admit it than open another tab to check it out), NCIS seems *finally* interested in developing the characters' lives. Funnily enough, in a DVD extra on Season 6 box, Weatherly and the mesmerizingly radiant de Pablo insisted that their characters would *never* deliver what the fans have been asking since season 3: Will they or won't they? Obviously, the show-runners are now having fun teasing the audience. The scene where Tony and Ziva are watching McGee sleep at his desk creates a feel that the two are now more of a couple than ever. Plus, Ziva with a finger between her lips is a fantastic visual present for her fans. Ssssexy!
The fact that Tony is jealous when Damon (from #5.10 and #7.6) reappears just adds fuel to the speculation. Taking into account that Tony *killed* the man Ziva loved, it would seem beyond far-fetched that they would end up together, but NCIS really has created a remarkably complex situation where not only Ziva ending up with Tony would not be unheard of, but also highly plausible. One could write an intricate study on the Ziva - Tony relationship, but it needs only to be summarized thusly: The people Ziva thought she could trust betrayed her, but Tony *never* will.
Gibbs on the other hand, seems headed for yet another short relationship that ends when the passion runs out (remember the army woman?) although I'm willing to bet the fans would like to see him stick with Sofer's character. They actually *do* make a great on-screen couple, in addition to the fact that Sofer's easily the most striking actress that has ever played Gibb's love interest.
The great Joe Spano recurs again, which is nice. It's almost a running joke now how his credit keeps getting longer and longer with each passing year - it actually now reads on-screen, "Senior Special FBI Agent Tobias Fornell"! The Gibbs - Fornell male bond is just delightful. Their long-time friendship is a really convincing one.
As a one-off, it's also great to see Peter Woodward, who makes a lasting impression from just *one* appearance, like he did in Fringe (though they brought him back in flashbacks). This man deserves more work!
After all these things going for the episode, it's a bit disappointing that the plot is so straightforward and the "twist" can be seen coming a good ten minutes before. Still, a reliable 7/10, which beats an average hour of TV easily.
