In June 1970, Elvis Presley made the trip east from his Graceland home in Memphis to Nashville, where he holed up in RCA Studio B on Music Row for five days of recording. Presley, who was in the midst of his Las Vegas comeback at the International Hotel, was joined by Music City sessions players like Charlie McCoy and Norbert Putnam — the legendary “Nashville Cats.” The result came to be known among fans as the “marathon sessions.”
Now, a new four-disc compilation assembles the masters from those halcyon days and captures Presley at his energetic best.

I've never been one to listen to melancholic pop songs on repeat, but Brooklyn-based singer-songwriter Claud gave me a taste of this unique happy-sad feeling, and now I'm hooked.
After recently listening to their soothing lo-fi poppy song "Miss You," I felt like I was a teenager trapped in an '80s movie full of new-wave club nights, high-school drama, and awkward crushes. When I recently hopped on the phone with Claud, I was determined to figure out their process. According to the 20-year-old singer, it all began with meeting their best friend, Josh Mehling, on the first day at Syracuse University in the Fall of 2017.
"We started just making music together," they recalled. "He taught me how to communicate with music and through songs." The friendship between Claud and Mehling has since lead to many collaborations, and eventually Claud's first Ep, Toast, was released in August 2018. "Collaboration became a...

Eric Church’s soulful “Heart Like a Wheel,” Jillian Jacqueline’s riveting duet with Keith Urban and Aaron Watson’s uplifting “Higher Ground” are among the 10 country and Americana tracks you must hear this week.
Eric Church, “Heart Like a Wheel”
For all its talk about wheels, Eric Church’s newest release from Desperate Man rolls forward at a deliberately relaxed pace. The song’s cruising speed is set by its drumbeat, whose casual swing is reminiscent of old Stax Records. Gospel harmonies, church organ and a cyclical, soul-inspired melody only strengthen those comparisons,...

“If I Were You,” Rtve’s Spanish adaptation of the International Emmy winning digital series from New Zealand, “Reservoir Hill,” was a big coup for the broadcaster in 2017, and is participating this week as part of the inaugural edition of Canneseries Digital. It will also compete later this week at the New York Festivals Worlds Best TV and Films.
The story follows Alba, a 17-year-old girl who is forced to move in with an uncle after her parents relocate to New Zealand for work, but decide she should finish her final year of school in Spain. Right from the start things go sideways for Alba however, as she is a near doppelganger of a local girl her age that disappeared only six months before.
This series started as a multi-platform, audience-driven collection of 10 minutes episodes, first available to watch on Rtve’s digital platform Playz. Over its eight episode arc,...

Eli Sisach’s deep-space sci-fi thriller “Atropa,” Rightor Doyle’s kinky “Bonding” and Frenchmen Edouard Salier’s U.S./Cuba “Cabeza Madre” – where an initially lampooned Cuba in many ways comes off the better – all figure in the inaugural Canneseries Digital, a showcase for the riches – artistic, financial – of a burgeoning entertainment form.
Compulsive viewing, and homaging an ‘80s “Aliens”-school of murky, industrial deep-space sci-fi, American Eli Sasich’s time-warp mystery “Atropa” has an Off-World officer reuniting with his estranged wife in an outer galaxy, as her space vessel collides with another version of itself.
A Studio + Original Series, “Cabeza Madre,” delivers a “Fargo”-oddball character comedy about an uptight American (Clifton Collins Jr.) facing off in Cuba with his decapitated mother’s apartment-block mob.

The country star and his wife had been shuttling back and forth to Uganda for a year trying to adopt Willa Gray before finally bringing the toddler home to Nashville, Tennessee, in May
“I didn’t think she would ever come home,” Lauren tells People in this week’s issue. “It was so exhausting, so defeating. Emotionally, it would wreck me sometimes.

Is there any hope for poor Morwenna? Poldark’s penultimate series three episode leaves things on a cliff-edge…
This review contains spoilers.
See related Luc Besson interview: Valerian, sci-fi, Adele Blanc-Sec Valerian review
In the book of Stuff That Shouldn’t Need Explaining Nowadays But Somehow Still Does, right between the parts on not making fun of deaf accents and not ridiculing fat people for their size, there’s an entry entitled Rape: Comedy. It’s pretty long, and covers the right to free speech and subversive power of laughing at dark subjects. There’s a lot on context, voice and irony. It’s nuanced stuff but concludes with an evergreen reminder: “Making rape the punchline to a seaside-postcard comedy skit is crass and cheap. Sheesh, c’mon, man. Why wouldn’t you get that?”
If said book weren’t fictional, I’d send a copy to Poldark’s creators.

A new trailer is out for The Wall in which an enemy taunts Aaron Taylor-Johnson's and John Cena's characters.
Directed by Doug Liman, the psychological thriller follows two soldiers pinned down by an Iraqi sniper, with nothing but a crumbling wall between them. Their fight becomes as much a battle of will and wits as it is of lethally accurate marksmanship.
"If I were you, I would stop talking," says the sniper to the soldiers. He then warns a wounded Cena, who is threatening to shoot him: "When this is over, his family won't recognize him."

"If I were you, I'd be secretive..." Studiocanal UK has debuted a brand new trailer for the upcoming 40th anniversary re-release of Nicolas Roeg's sci-fi film The Man Who Fell to Earth, starring the late David Bowie as an alien who lands on Earth in hopes of getting water for his dying planet. He starts a technology company to get the billions of dollars he needs to build a return spacecraft, but does not count on the greed and ruthlessness of business here on Earth. The film also stars Candy Clark as Mary-Lou, plus Rip Torn, Buck Henry and Bernie Casey. This is one of this quirky yet totally unique kind of sci-fi cult classics that if you haven't seen yet, now's the perfect time to catch up with it. The mesmerizing score by John Phillips & Stomu Yamashta is also getting released in full (on vinyl, too!) for those interested in grabbing it.

Miss last week’s episode? Want a quick reminder? Check out our recap.
It takes a poisoning, a spilled secret and some unfortunately placed hickies, but Outlander‘s Claire and Jamie are once more in accord — and just in time, thank the gods.
That’s because the Frasers will have to marshal all of their combined resources to combat the growing threat that is Le Comte St. Germain, who makes not one but two (we suspect) deadly plays for Lady Broch Tuarach in this week’s episode. More importantly, who wants an Outlander where Jamie and Claire aren’t shagging on the regular?...

After years of writing about the film, we finally have our first look at James Gray's adventure drama The Lost City of Z. Brad Pitt and Benedict Cumberbatch were attached to the lead role at various points during the film's long development process before the producers ultimately cast Pacific Rim star Charlie Hunnam, with Robert Pattinson and Tom Holland joining him in this excursion into the jungle.
The video seems to be more of a sales pitch to potential distributors than a regular trailer, so A) apologies if it gets taken down later today, and B) while it looks like it does a good job of getting across the tone of the movie, it also appears to give away a Lot more of the story than a normal trailer would (or should). Director John Frankenheimer.
I'm often asked which, out of the over 600 interviews I've logged with Hollywood's finest, is my favorite. It's not a tough answer: John Frankenheimer.
We instantly clicked the day we met at his home in Benedict Canyon, and spent most of the afternoon talking in his den. A friendship of sorts developed over the years, with visits to his office for screenings of the old Kinescopes he directed for shows like "Playhouse 90" during his salad days in live television during the 1950s.
We hadn't spoken for nearly a year in mid-2002 when the phone rang. It was John, who spoke in what can only be described as a "stentorian bark," like a general. "Alex!" he exclaimed. "John Frankenheimer." He could sense something was amiss with me. It was. My screenwriting career had stalled. My marriage was progressing to divorce. I had hit bottom. John knew that...

For nearly eight years and 750 episodes, Jake and Amir told the story of two friends who come up with new, amusing ways to bother each other and everyone else around them. Now, Jake and Amir has come to an end. CollegeHumor posted the final episode of Jake Hurwitz and Amir Blumenfeld's web series on April 7th, 2015.
In the final episode, the titular duo gets fired from CollegeHumor after unleashing a vulgar film on the world. As they pack up their desks, they look back at one of their first videos, contemplate what to do next, and offer their thanks to the team that helped their web series roll up millions of views.

When Michael Keaton met Barack Obama shortly before Obama would become president, the then-senator had a question for the actor.
"Why don't you make more movies?"
It's a quandary that has long bedeviled moviegoers just as it has, so it seems, heads of state. Why did the roundly beloved Keaton - a manic comic actor, an intense live wire, a real-deal movie star - become such an infrequent presence on the big screen?
Even at the height of Keaton's stardom in the 1980s and '90s, he was famously picky, usually doing a movie a year and turning down about as many hits (Splash, JFK, among them) as he said yes to. But after a handful of flops in the late '90s and early 2000s, Keaton all but disappeared from movies.
"I did turn a lot of things down. But a lot of the things I turned down, you would have turned down,...

The Sons of Anarchy aren’t letting anyone cross them in their final season, a point driven home quite clearly by Tuesday’s episode.
This week, Samcro eliminated one enemy but created another, Gemma overstepped her boundaries (what else is new?), while Juice… oh, poor Juice.

In the Sept. 23 episode of Sons of Anarchy, “Playing with Monsters,” Juice (Theo Rossi) used Unser (Dayton Callie) to get Chibs (Tommy Flanagan) alone to ask him if there was anything he could do to earn his way back into Samcro. Chibs’ response was brutal: “If I were you, I’d get that gun, put it in my mouth, and pull the trigger.” Rossi and Flanagan talked to EW separately about the moment that Rossi says is a game-changer for Juice.
EW: That scene is the first one you’ve had with any of the guys all season, Theo.

The exceptionally well-cast “The Red Road” starts well, but slips in the second episode. If I were you, I’d watch the premiere and wait a few weeks for some consensus on whether it recovers. The six-part series is set in a northern New Jersey community adjacent to Native American land. But their lineage is in dispute: The tribe isn’t federally recognized, and one character, Philip (Jason Momoa) says his people are actually descended from “slaves and whores.” Also read: Sundance’s ‘The Red Road’ Aims to Stay Authentic With a Pretend Indian Tribe, Producers Say Sounds a little “Game of Thrones,...

True Detective, Season 1, Episode 6: “The Secret Fate of All Life”
Written by Nic Pizzolatto
Directed by Cary Fukunaga
Airs Sundays at 9pm Et on HBO
With just two episodes left in the first season, “Haunted Houses” is the most straightforward instalment in the series so far. This sixth episode is the one that most resembles a typical cop show, complete with with a hard-nosed police sergeant drilling his two detectives and demanding that Cohle hand over his gun and badge, and a hot tempered officer (Marty) beating two prisoners who were caught sleeping with his daughter. We find out exactly why Hart and Cohle had a falling out in 2002, and exactly why Marty’s marriage finally fell apart. “Haunted Houses” is the weakest of the bunch but don’t’ worry, next week is a vast improvement.

Taylor Swift – I bet you didn’t go to the Golden Globes thinking that you would be the butt of one of Tina Fey and Amy Poehler‘s pointed jokes during their second stint hosting the awards show. William Devane Respects The Text
By
Alex Simon
Few actors ruled the big and small screen with such vigor during the 1970s as William Devane. Using his classically handsome Irish features to embody parts best described as “Ivy League menace,” Devane hasn’t stopped working since making his film debut in 1967. McCabe & Mrs. Miller, The Missiles of October, Marathon Man, Family Plot, Rolling Thunder, Yanks and Testament are just a few of the classic titles to which Devane brought his unique brand of charisma. The ‘80s saw him dominating the airwaves on the primetime soap Knots Landing as the nefarious Gregory Sumner, with dozens more memorable turns to follow.
Devane lends his gravitas to the new indie thriller We Gotta Get Out of This Place, a nifty neo-noir about a group of Texas teens (Mackenzie Davis, Logan Huffman, Jeremy Allen White) from a dead-end town who find themselves over their...

New Nikita season 4 premiere date at last released by the CW. Recently, CW finally served up the official premiere date for their upcoming "Nikita" final season 4 on their official website. They are planning to start the Nikita fun back up on Friday night, November 22nd, 2013 at 8pm central time. So, make sure to mark that date down on your calendars. Unfortunately, we have to reiterate that CW has only given the final season 4 just a measly, little 6 episode order, so after that, it's done forever. If I were you guys, I would definitely try to savor everyone of them. It seems like there will be a lot going on in them as they have actually brought on new characters and stuff, so they should go out with a bang.

Earlier today, The Maze Runner author James Dashner teased fans by Tweeting, "If I were you, I'd stay very close to Twitter the next few days. @MazeRunnerMovie @MTV" And sure enough, a little while later, a handful of images for the upcoming feature adaptation of the first novel in Dashner's series makes its way online, revealing star Dylan O'Brien and some of the other cast from the film, which arrives in theaters next Valentine's Day. Among the images is the one above, which shows some of the boys sentenced to live in a mysterious place called The Glade, where kids are forced to fend for themselves and try to survive against the elements and the threats that lurk within the maze beyond the walls. It's particularly fitting that MTV should get access to these first official images for the film, as the movie stars Dylan O'Brien, whose current claim to...

A man was apprehended Friday (May 17) at Cannes Film Festival after he allegedly fired a gun loaded with blanks. He was also in possession of a fake grenade.
While approaching a French TV channel's festival studio, the suspect reportedly said to a bystander, "If I were you, I wouldn't stick around here," according to France 24. No one was hurt in the incident.
According to TMZ, "Django Unchained" star Christoph Waltz was on the studio's "Le Grand Journal" set for an interview. While Waltz was rushed off the stage, the audience rose in a panic.
This is not the first unforseen event to take place at this year's festival. Last night (May 16), thieves stole $1 million worth of jewelry from the hotel room of a Chopard employee at the nearby Novotel.

The High School Of Art & Design (A&D) was where I studied illustration and where countless great comic book, animation and illustration artists learned their craft, including Carmine Infantino, John Romita Sr., Dick Giordano, Ralph Bakshi, Neal Adams, Larry Hama, Denys Cowan, Mark Texeira, Malcolm Jones III, Frank Brunner, Jimmy Palmiotti, Joe Jusko, Mike Carlin and Ralph Reese. That list goes on but A&D also produced many others of note in various areas such as fashion and music: Calvin Klein and Tony Bennett are A&D alumni along with a myriad of badass mofos. I’ve written about A&D before as it certainly has played an important part in the comics industry and has for many decades. A&D is the backdrop for this piece, but that’s pretty much the extent of the industry tie in. This piece is about a love story and A&D is...

Zoe Kazan's screenwriting film debut, "Ruby Sparks," was, at times, misinterpreted. The term "manic pixie dream girl" would often appear in discussions surrounding the film -- which is fine -- but, unfortunately, it was usually in the wrong context, considering "Sparks" was the antithesis of that phrase. On that press tour, Kazan herself would remain coy when asked about any interpretations. On this press tour -- for "The Pretty One," currently playing at the Tribeca Film Festival -- she's being a little more vocal.
All while not infecting me with bronchitis, I should add.
In "The Pretty One," Kazan plays twin sisters -- one an outgoing busybody, Audrey, and one a wallflower, Laurel. After Audrey's death, Laurel claims her identity. I met Kazan, who, yes, is recovering from bronchitis, at a busy Manhattan hotel lobby and she was nice enough to warn me about avoid possible handshakes, lest she...

Blake Shelton dropped by "The Tonight Show" to talk about the new blood on "The Voice." He and fellow coach Adam Levine welcomed new coaches Shakira and Usher to the panel this season, and he said it's been going really well. Mainly because had and Levine like to have fun with the other coaches.
One trick they realized pretty quickly was that any time they fought for a contestant and Shakira won, she would give consolation hugs to the other coaches during the commercial breaks.
"So Adam and I figured out, any time you see Shakira hit that button, I’m hitting my button, too," Shelton said. "Then you’re like, ‘If I were you, I’d go with Shakira,’ you know, because then you get the Shakira hug."
If they're on the panel again together, Shakira may not give her hugs away so freely. Blake Shelton told Billboard that...

There are few truly "Selfless, Brave and True" acts in this world - and Storybrooke is no exception, as August returned to Once Upon a Time this week looking for redemption.
August never did take his task of looking out for Emma very seriously. That's all I could think when he woke up in a beautiful woman's bed in a beachside bungalow in Phuket, Thailand. Apparently his selfishness had already begun to take its toll.
Of course, everyone thought he was a crazy person because he was the only one who could witness his dilemma. I wonder what the doctor thought when no blood emerged from that leg wound.
What I didn't expect was Neal's fiancee being wrapped up in all of this.
How could August not realize it was a set up when she left that envelope of cash for him to watch? That seemed ridiculousm but I suppose...

Rough Draft: Carr-Wiggin’s Latest Buoyed Exclusively on the Charms of Lead Actress
If one were to look for fresh evidence of the perennial talents of the gifted Marcia Gay Harden they could definitely find proof of it in her lead turn in If I Were You, a new film directed by Canadian writer/director Joan Carr-Wiggin. Harden’s got a number of titles in post-production, but it’s been a minute since we’ve seen her in a really juicy lead role, and she sinks her teeth into this one. How unfortunate then that nothing else about the film even comes close to matching her considerable talents, as she carries the film’s merits entirely upon her shoulders.
