One of the best

The tension has never been higher on this show than on this episode.

There are better cal episodes and better Gillian episodes but not one when they face each other.

Messy Episode

Seven years ago, Dr. Lightman and Dr. Foster worked in the Pentagon in the counterterrorism, and Dr. Lightman investigated the Irish terrorist from IRA Jimmy Doyle. A taxi driver tries to assassinate him, but Jimmy fights and his wife and daughter are killed by the shots of the driver instead. On the present days, the former chief of Dr. Lightman will meet him at his office when his car explodes, hurting several people including Loker. The government accuses Jimmy Doyle, but he comes to Cal's office and tells that he was not the responsible for the blow-up. Further, he asks Dr. Lightman to find the killers of his wife and daughter. Cal is also interested in retrieve tapes of his sessions with Dr. Foster that someone robbed and is blackmailing him.

"Sweet Sixteen" is a confused episode of "Lie to Me". The plot with flashbacks is messy and develops a hidden side of Cal and Gillian after two seasons of the series. Grey eminence is usually not part of this show and is irritating. My vote is seven.
