Birth of Tension
ttapola24 November 2010
And NCIS: Los Angeles is back to doing average episodes - watching this is no waste of time, but one could do a lot better. This episode has all the ingredients for a great, tense thriller, yet fails to give birth to any *real* tension. Clichés run rampant an after a while the human brain will likely reduce the memory of this one to a faint recollection.

The best thing about this episode is the adorable Comic Relief Old Lady. I'm not familiar with actress Julianna McCarthy's body of work, but she is the star here. The regular actors fall yet again to their thin roles - but it's the writers who are at fault in not giving these characters the same great personalities than their colleagues in the original NCIS. Sam Hanna may be the hardest hitter of both shows regular characters combined, but the attempts to make Kensi as bad-ass (and great ass) as Ziva have no chance of succeeding. Though the victor would be self-evident, I'm guessing male viewers would like to see a fight between these two tough females. C'mon, someone needs to outdo the Holy Grail of TV cat-fights, the breath-taking one at the climax of season 2 of Alias! And the funniest character in this show so far has been Special Guest Star Abby Sciuto, everyone's favorite goth. Sorry, Los Angeles, you have to do better. You've already shown it in #1.13, now just do it again!
