- Ella is not much taken with being tied down to a relationship, David will stop at nothing to buy Coal, Lauren gives in to Michael's threat, and Riley comes to her senses about her overnight affair with Ben, but earns the wrath of vengeful ditched Amanda. - Tottering on high heels, long-legged Ella Simms (Katie Cassidy) returns to Melrose Place after a day at the office. Her dress is scarcely more than jacket-length. "Hi honey, I'm home!" Inside her apartment, astonished to find a candle-lit surprise, 'pasta a la Jonah' prepared by her doting boyfriend. Lauren had let him in. Used to her bachelorette lifestyle, she clearly is taken aback by all this, too 'domestic' for her taste.
At Wilshire Memorial, Drew is in the lead with a wheelchair race, until Lauren steps in front of him, to remind him that this is a hospital. Patient safety! He figures she's not going to stick around for the guerney demolition derby.
Riley and Ben return from their meeting, where Riley's presentation went well. She had a congresswoman hanging on to her every word.
Lauren is paged, but it's David, hiding behind one of the hospital ward curtains, bringing her food. She thanks him, glad for something substantial, not from a vending machine, but next time, no paging her over the PA.
Ella reckons the meal Jonah has prepared is far outclassed by the lovemaking session they just had. She could get used to being in a relationship after all. Jonah reveals that he has been invited to the second birthday of Charlie Kitsis's kid, so Ella smiles that he has finally broken through to the inner circle, even if it is only 'a gigantic bouncy,' and he invites her along on his +1 invitation. She says that he hardly needs a publicist to mingle at 'a rugrat's birthday party,' but he meant it as a date. Much affection.
The food was nice, next time it will be more gourmet. Lauren is told by David that he is planning to buy Coal, which is up for sale. Her mind is clearly in a different place, though. After all, Doctor Mancini has made his demands (final scene, Stoner Canyon (2010) and she will have to back off from David. He senses that something is wrong, but her pesky phone rings,as usual, and she has to break off just as she was about to tell him something important. David looks exasperated.
Clinking champagne glasses in the back of the limousine, Ben tells Riley he had an instinct about her, and that she is an amazing woman, she responds that she totally believes in the project, and while she is still heady with her newfound success, Ben brings his face closer to hers, and she leans forward for the kiss. They smooch. He apologizes, lest she thinks of him as too forward, says he thought he picked up signals. She thinks she might have emitted some. Ben says they shouldn't allow that one little miscommunication spoil their joint undertaking, and Riley agrees.
Amanda has intercepted David's mail, and now pretends she is just here to correct the mailman's mistake, only to come snoop around in his apartment, checking for artwork. Yeah, he has some. Of particular interest to her, a small painting done by the late Sydney Andrews. Sydney, a painter? Could it be...?
The men are playing in the pool, a ball and a basketball hoop, and naturally, the discussion turns to, as Drew points out, the allure of the female tenants. He inquires from Jonah whether it is really over between him and Riley, like final, or just for now? But Jonah says Humpty could never be put back together again. David inquires from Drew if anything might be stressing out Lauren. Oh, just the usual hectic hospital havoc, coupled with the lack of adequate sleep, nothing much more....
Offering $1,5 million fails to put him in the lead for purchasing the restaurant, the owner has another offer, for $2,2 million, and David will have to beat that by tomorrow if he is to realize his dream.
Another event for Amanda to attend, a film festival in Santa Barbara. She'd rather not, but she has to be seen there. Escorting boyfriend Ben arrives, and she has her wish, he's not taking her, because he's through with her. Amanda, who has serious financial troubles (as seen early on in Stoner Canyon (2010)) needed the liferaft he represents, but proudly, she now feigns her indifference, pretending he was just a toy to her, one who began boring her anyway.
Charlie Kitsis's party turns out to be a doggie-do. Sammy is his dog. Ella is quite dismayed, dogs are notorious for getting hair over everything, but she gamely tries to suck up to the world-weary looking animal, only to be growled at.
David figures Lauren might be sensing that he is hiding something from her, and comes clean re the exposition he received from Vanessa re being Noah's Dad. Lauren simply sees this as her way out, and pretends she just cannot take any more.
Drew keeps on trying to raise a smile from Lauren, however inanely. Talks about it being time for his day-job, male prostitution, even flatter joke than his one about being a vampire last week.
David meets up with Amir again, who aplogizes for the incident with his hotheaded cousin (way back in Shoreline (2009)), but on the rebound from Lauren, David just wants to score some huge amount of cash to close that big deal, and he promises Amir a diamond he could get his hands on.
Doggie birthday parties are so the pits. But, "Weird, all these people, it's like they jumped off the cover of Variety!" Ella enthuses. She spots Michael Hoover and has to go mingle. Drew's day-job turns out to be guitarist for a struggling band performing at the dodgy doggie event, and he is glad to see Jonah there. Calls him a 'hotshot screenwriter with a hot agent' and just then, Charlie, carting Sammy, comes over to the two pals, and offers Jonah a project involving Seth Rogen. Jonah cannot believe his ears.
Ben, oh so smitten, is discussing strategy (!) with Riley. He thinks that maybe if they can 'acknowledge the elephant in the room' they could get back on track, referring to that stolen kiss. Ben reveals that he broke off with Amanda, and, yes, he did that for his pursuit of Riley, as Amanda is too cold, and Riley has a caring personality. He tells her that he doesn't want too much analyzing, live for the moment, and the sexual chemistry between the two boils to overflowing. A mysterious camera clicks, capturing the two protagonists on film.
Amanda's spy, a cat burglar type who bears a striking resemblance to David, reports that he had taken a photograph of the painting, and is having a copy made, so that no blank space need cause alarm. Maybe Sydney was just fingerpainting, but Amanda hopes she tried camouflaging the original. The guy also has another 'surprise' for Amanda, the photographs of Riley and Ben's encounter. As usual, Amanda's hunch had been spot-on. Not that it cheers her up though.
Riley goes to Lauren for some advice. Lauren looks down, washed-out, like she's been crying a lot. She reveals that she broke up with David. Riley, in turn, reveals her relationship with Ben. Lauren advises her to have some fun after her five-year relationship.
"Who let the dogs out?" the band jams. Much to his chagrin, Jonah finds Ella flirting with Michael Hoover, and when taking her to task for that, she tells him that's the way she gets what she wants from agents, it's the way she does business, and she cannot be so suffocated in a relationship. He suggests she catches some oxygen then....
David has once again gained entry to yet another mansion, and has his gloved hands on the intended target, the sparkling diamond, when his toiling efforts are interrupted by blonde bombshell Morgan (stunning Melissa Ordway), a bored little brat who cares not one little tiny bit that Mommy's diamond is being stolen. Instead, she circles the hunky intruder, checking him out, liking what she sees, and cuts him a deal. Never mind his lame story re this merely being an insurance swindle, her mean Dad is too nasty to be stolen from, no need for insurance, so get out of here, take the diamond, but fun first. Then, hark! a sound, Dad's here, she'd settle for an IOU for now, just take the diamond... Easy living breeds easy attitudes.
Jonah reveals to Drew his 'Thrilla in Manilla' showdown with Ella. Drew gives him the unsolicited advice that Ella is 'an entirely different beast' from Riley, with whom his 'living together, totally committed, totally comfortable' brought him zilch, so maybe he should just go with the ebb and tide of the flow and enjoy the ride Ella has to offer, he might like it!
Amanda confronts Riley with the hard evidence. Riley betrayed her. She introduced them, got her the interview that got her that job. There will be hell to pay...
Ben can't be bothered by the photographs. Next time, he'd close the drapes. And wear a better shirt. Anyway, Amanda has 'a thin layer of galvanized steel' so she'd be unscythed. Riley feels he is acting very cavalier about it - she has been brought to her senses. Maybe she could work for somebody else in the company? Maybe they'd both feel better about it that way. But 'hands-on' Ben doesn't play the game that way. The bubble bursting, Riley now acts as her conscience demands, and says she'd find funding for her ideals some other way.
A knock on Lauren's door, and it is Drew, ingratiating as ever, but cute, and just what she needs. He is told that she broke up with David, so, they should go out to cheer her up, he suggests. Riley pops in as well, and Lauren gets her to tag along. First thing, Lauren must get dressed for her night out, and Drew stretches out on the sofa, lazing with a book, waiting for the two of them. He'd like to watch...
Amanda goes for removing the top layer of the painting, but it turns out she was barking up the wrong tree. Exasperated, she swipes everything off her living room table onto the floor. Back to the drawing board!
Jonah took the advice to heart. He'll give it a shot. But Ella isn't about matching his-and-hers towels, two straws from the same drink... She too would try, because she loves the idea of him being her partner. Adjustments will have to be made, some of them delightful, such as to the inside of her Mini Cooper as they make mad passionate love.... They are at Coal, the whole gang summoned there by David. Riley sees the kiss Jonah gives Ella. David announces that he bought Coal, and Lauren looks at him suspiciously. Broke the piggy bank, he explains. Lauren is clearly not convinced...
Returning home much later, who is waiting on the stairs? Morgan. Dreamy willowy long limbs, gliding down the stairs toward him, soft snicker. She tracked down his license plate, and is there to collect on her IOU...
