An Alternative Reality: The Football Manager Documentary - which saw its first screening in cinemas nationwide this week - is an hour and a half of anecdotes and musings on the long-running simulation series. It might not appeal so much to non-Football Manager fans - there are a fair few references non-players won't get - but those who've been playing the series for decades will find a lot to love in it.
After watching the film and listening to series director Miles Jacobson do a Q&A, we managed to pick up on seven nuggets you likely didn't know about Football Manager.
1. Football Manager nearly bagged Alex McLeish a superstar
Alex and his son Jon talk about one thing we did know before: the younger McLeish recommended a player he'd discovered on Football Manager to his dad, back when he was managing Glasgow Rangers. This dismissed recommendation of a teenager...

Hull City left Tyneside with all three points on Saturday after a pulsating 3-2 victory over Newcastle.
The visitors trailed at the break thanks to a brace from Magpies forward Loic Remy, but Steve Bruce’s side produced a stunning comeback to move them into the top-half the Premier League table.
Goals from Robbie Brady, Ahmed Elmohamady and Sone Aluko were enough to earn City their first away win of the campaign in front of over 51,000 at St. James’ Park.
It was a bright start from the home side, with Remy looking a constant threat down the left and Vurnon Anita, Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko all linking up well in midfield.
And it was Remy who broke the deadlock after ten minutes when he grabbed his first goal for the club since his loan move from Queens Park Rangers.
Sissoko beat two men before firing a deep cross to the back post,...

It’s a match that is often dubbed the biggest in English football. And as we all know, football is a game decided on numbers, and the statistics that follow these two giants of the game are nothing short of astounding. 37 miles separate the two sides, and they have a total of 37 league titles between them, United leading the way with 19, Liverpool not far behind with 18.
In their strikers, the clubs have the two deadliest forwards in the land. Robin Van Persie tops the table with 16 Pl goals, whilst Luis Suarez is hot on the Dutchman’s heels with 15. But the number that will please United fans, and irk Liverpool fans most, is 21. That is the number of points by which United lead their bitter rivals in the Premier League, and is a stark reminder of just how far Liverpool have to come during this season of transition. But form...

Whilst Sir Alex Ferguson sat prepared to watch his new dainty striker combine with his two dainty wingers, who would feed off the play from their newly purchased dainty attacking midfielder who was anchored by two dainty centre midfielders; I myself sat in preparation to watch a physical, un-muscular Everton side rip these small players to shreds like sacrificial lambs…They did.
Although the signing of Dutch Striker Robin Van Persie is being heralded as the next coming of Christ and silverware; many people have seemed to overlook the problem that United have had for several seasons now in a physical, enforcing midfielder who won’t be bullied quite as much as United were last night.
Despite the fact that the best option for this role was a man they overlooked as they went for Arsenal’s captain, Alex Song who now plies is trade in Barcelona, there are still...

So England have pulled off quite the accomplishment, Roy Hodgson has not only managed to guide the three lions into the Quarter-Finals of the tournament but also go into the stage as winners of Group D, a group that many had doubted England would even manage to get out of. Players have really stepped up their game with the likes of Danny Welbeck, Theo Walcott and Joleon Lescott gaining praise for their excellent performances for the side when called upon. So they now face Italy a side brimming with confidence after managing to fight-off a good Croatian side in the battle for second place in Group C. Italy will not be easy opponents for England but England come into this game most likely with a ton of motivation and will probably be confident of possibly making it through to the Semi-Finals.

Transfer dramas plagued Arsenal’s previos pre-season prompting the club’s worst league start in 58 years. With that in mind, they seem keen to wrap up their business quickly this time.
Last summer was extremely frustrating for Arsenal fans. While rivals Tottenham signed players of proven premiership pedigree; like Scott Parker and Brad Friedel; Arsenal were busy trying to stop the inevitable departures of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri.
In the end Fabregas re-joined Barcelona, and Nasri dropped the Emirates for the Etihad with Gael Clichy having done so weeks prior.
The promising trio of Alex-Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gervinho and Carl Jenkinson arrived at club, but these were very much players for the future. The departing players needed replacing as they formed the core of the team. Without them the Gunners were exposed, and this was clear during their 8-2 thumping against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
This triggered manager Arsene Wenger into action.

Cynics who say the League Cup is a waste of time should take note of the passion that will doubtless be on display tonight from both sets of supports at Elland Road as heated rivals Leeds United welcome Manchester United to the third round of the competition, televised live on Sky Sports, kick-off at 7.45pm. I mean sure, clubs like Manchester United could probably do without the distraction away from league matters but for the fans it’s their pride that is at stake and losing in this kind of fixture is unthinkable for those who turn up for work on Wednesday morning in a environment with ‘the enemy’. Losing just isn’t an option.
Tonight’s match should be a showcase for how competitive the cup should be, even if it’s not strictly a first 11 that will be fielded from the Premier League champions. Having been humiliated on...

A feeling of foreboding and damnation builds up in the narration from the first frame itself. Here's a gloriously gutsy film exploring the underbelly of Mumbai through the lives of two slumkids who grow up in identical circumstances but with somewhat disparate values.
First-time director Faruk Kabir displays remarkable skill in creating a pastiche of mammoth crime and little punishment. The pace leaves meager space for grace. And yet Allah Ke Banday creates a world filled with acute aggression repression and damnation with a reasonable amount of paciness to the edgy narrative.
The world that Faruk Kabir's characters inhabit is reminiscent of Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, Irrfan Kamal's underrated Thanks, Maa, Mahesh Manjrekar's City Of Gold and Chandan Arora's Striker. Deriving its lingering study of juvenile delinquency from these sources Allah Ke Banday moves forward and acquires a life of its own.

Only two films old yet he continues to spark attention every time his name appears in headlines. Well, that is the sign of an actor who's left a good impression. Indeed, Siddharth is the man we're talking about. After Rang De Basanti, a long hiatus ended with Chandan Arora's Striker. South Superstar Siddharth, who made his Bollywood debut with the 2006 Blockbuster Rang De Basanti and garnered critical acclaim for his performance in this year’s Striker found that fame has its downsides, the hard way. A few days back, Siddharth was busy watching the FIFA match when he heard incessant ringing at his door. “At 2.30am this morning, 2 drunks rang my doorbell 50 times, and then tried to break down the door, before security came and took them away,” he posted on Twitter. These self-claimed fans tried to barge in and take pictures stating that people like them made the stars. Luckily for him, no damage was done but he was pretty shaken up. “Didn’t sleep coz i was too shaken up. They’re not fans, just drunk sickos. Period. In ten years of my career, this has never happened. I am disturbed out of my skin. My family and friends are panicking.

A few months back I asked actor Siddharth (Rang de Basanti on Twitter about the reason behind Striker's unexplained delay, he had replied, "Good films sometimes take insane amounts of time. Reasons vary from good to bad, but ultimately, the results make the wait worth it." Producer Boney Kapoor and director Satish Kaushik seem to entertain similar views regarding their upcoming flick Milenge Milenge (Mm). Few actors purposely went away from Kollywood as the film industry here is brimmed with mass hero images and lots of egoistic approach between them. Actor Madhavan can be a perfect illustration and so is Siddarth, who just acted in couple of Tamil films and flew all the way to Telugu and Hindi films.
Actress Padmapriya, who recently made her Bollywood debut with ‘Striker’, says, ‘I must thank Siddarth for having offered me a role in his film. It was Siddarth, who recommended me after watching some of my films. I will continue acting in Hindi films only if I come across meaty roles. It’s not like other actresses just picking whatever they’re offered with…’
The actress has won laurels across all the regional languages for her commendable performance.

Never one to undersell his strengths, Siddharth recently surprised even his most ardent fans - not to mention stars such as Kamal Hassan, Rajnikanth and even Madhuvan - by suggesting that he was as big as Shahrukh Khan in Tollywood. "I do a lot of romantic roles in Telugu films,” he says, “In fact when people say you are the Aamir Khan of Telugu films, I say I am the Shah Rukh Khan of the film industry. I do all the Tujhe dekha toh ye jaana sanam type of sequences in Telugu.”
Siddharth, still most famous for his role in Rang De Basanti, had some hits earlier in his career with Boys, Nuvvostanante Nenodantana and Bommarillu but existed in a kind of daze until the release of Striker earlier this year - the first movie to be released directly on to Youtube, which has so received nearly a million views.

The latest Siddharth Hindi film, Striker, struck a chord with YouTube audiences with its worldwide online release, generating a good deal of revenue even with only U.S. audiences paying for viewing. One unexpected side-effect of Studio 18’s cutting-edge release strategy was the newfound ability of Western audiences to respond to the movie in real-time. (If you haven’t seen the film yet, here’s where you should stop, because the rest of the article contains major spoilers.)
One plot point in particular was a major issue with most of that segment of the viewing public. In the final fifteen minutes of the film, Siddharth's character Surya rapes a woman who up to that point has done nothing but help him out, and with whom he has no previous romantic involvement. The members of the global watchalong were stunned by this story development, and then stunned by others’ response to their shock and disapproval.

After composing the music for her father’s hit movie Unnaipol Oruvan, Shruti Hassan has been signed up for Kamal Hassan’s latest movie Yavarum Kelir. After her disappointing Bollywood debut in Luck, Shruti also now appears to be entrenching herself more firmly in the South with the news that she will appear opposite Suriya for her next movie, which begins shooting in April.
Meanwhile, Shruti’s relationship with Striker star Siddharth appears to be deepening with the news that she has introduced him to her parents and he has introduced her to his sister, with whom she’s said to get on very well.
California educated Shruti has not given up hopes yet entirely of breaking through in Bollywood and is said to be looking for an apartment in Mumbai to make her constant commuting between the two film centres easier.

Siddharth first started acting with his college theatre group in Delhi. In 2002, he got a chance to assist director Mani Ratnam with his Tamil blockbuster, Kannathil Muthamittal. Now, after his first solo lead in the just-released Hindi film, Striker, he is gearing up for two Telugu films, one a fantasy adventure and the other a comedy. There is no question of pulling the film out of theatres. That’s a grave allegation to make against a studio that has invested so much on mounting and marketing the film. We put money into Striker because we believed in it and no studio would willingly jeopardise an opportunity to recover its investment,” says a spokesperson for Studio 18. The studio head insists that if Chandan Arora believes that they played dirty, he should name at least one theatre or exhibitor who got a call instructing them to pull out the film. “Collections were down to 5 per cent on the ...

With the news of Shruti Haasan moving to Mumbai, comes another tweet from my birdie. The Luck actress-singer seems to be getting close to apna Siddharth from Striker.
The Rang De Basanti lad was dating Soha Ali Khan once upon a time, and is now with Shruti for a couple of months. My birdie saw the two watching Studio 18’s film Striker in a suburban multiplex in Mumbai. They were too busy cootchie-cooing to pay attention to anyone else.
My common sense tells me they grew close because they’re doing a Telugu film together, titled Yodha. Juicy Mausi wishes them luck for a Hindi movie together.

It all began when a few Bollywood-loving writers and friends heard that Studio 18 and YouTube had come together to release Striker on the Internet the same day as the release in India. Immediately, tweets started flying to plan a time that we could get together and do a watchalong. Directed by Chandan Arora and starring Siddharth, Anupam Kher, Aditya Pancholi, Padmapriya, Nicollete Bird, Ankur Vikal, and Vidya Maldave, Striker is the first Bollywood film to be released on YouTube and we were all excited to be able to see the film during its first weekend. (Usually we do watchalongs after films have released on DVD or we are going back to visit old favorites!) Organized by Beth Watkins with help from Sujoy Singha, the watchalong soon grew from the 4 of us to over 25 people in 9 countries including the Us, UK, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Australia, and Abu Dhabi. One person tweeted,...

Whenever a small budgeted film is released, either a week prior or later to any big release, there are every chances of it being simply ignored by the audience which is too upbeat with the hype surrounding the big project and hence the makers as well as the stars of those small budget films feel insecure and just hope and pray for a good show. However the case is simply opposite with Siddharth whose film Striker releases a week before Shahrukh Khan's My Name Is Khan....
