A fun episode!

I'm not that great with reviews but I thought I'd leave one for this episode. It was fun and interesting. A man found dead with only half his body burned from a jetpack that exploded. We find out that McGee is slightly obsessed with jetpacks and won't shut up about it. Then try to interrogate a suspect only to have a new lawyer interfere like they usually do but this one is worse. Ms. Hart is probably the most irritating human being in this show aside from Dalilah who I also annoys me. It's not easy for me to watch any episode that Rena Sofer guest stars. She makes me want to literally scratch my eyes out. There may have been some unexplainable attraction between her and Gibbs but I don't care, she's annoying and one of the worst characters on the show. Other than my hate for her, I really did enjoy this episode.

Technology interesting, about time McGees character had more

active part in story line. McGee is in total error about 1 having to possess delicate hand coordination to maintain level flight with a Jet Pack, no more difficult than maintaining a steady speed operating a motor cycle, snow mobile, or a jet ski, actually more simple considering there are far less obstacles to get in your way. Victor Tillman's opinion about controlling the pack with a fly by wire remote is impractical, considering who would want someone else doing the flying for them, unless the pilot/passenger is incapacitated and incapable of control. Other than those points it was a fairly entertaining episode.

Jumped the Shark

*** Spoiler Alert ***

"Truth or Consequences" was a stretch: what if Gibbs couldn't see the bad guy to shoot him? It worked because the pathos was focused on Ziva. However, in "Ignition," the classic NCIS working formula, patter, relationships, expressions, personalities, even camera angles have lost the formula. It felt like walking with a rock in my shoe.

Show us, don't tell us: Bellisario didn't have to explain catapults on a flight deck in "Agent Afloat." Going hyper-geek with the dinosaur theory on top of the benefits of forest fires, soon to be followed by more monologues about the history of jet packs, only to explain it away with the "we got it" apology, was tedious. The technology is usually very well handled: Abby always has a point to her drawn-out explanations, but it's a bore if it's just monologue and doesn't add to the plot of the story. (Bellisarius knows how to explain technology by weaving it in without boring the audience and how characters should react to the explanation.)

Gibbs was too patient with the McGee short and seemed to be lost throughout the episode, instead of pushing harder for answers. He's usually the tension in the room that elicits critical thinking, sometimes by just staring. Here, Gibbs continually pauses and is confused, even just smiling. Gibbs doesn't pause to be Gibbs; for the first time in the NCIS series, I saw Mark Harmon instead of Gibbs.
