good movie, until the end.
specvman200314 June 2012
Warning: Spoilers
NO SPOILERS!! but, I will say that the ending was a tad confusing and there is lots to be left to the imagination. The movie starts out very good, character build up is decent and the story line is good until the end. The ending leaves you going "huh??" That being said, it is not a bad movie, and many will find it enjoyable. I know that I didn't even notice how long it was running until it ended. Some of the situations are easily relatable and you can easily associate many of the scenes. It simply seemed to be that they need a quick ending and thus decided on the easiest way out. Many will see the end coming, some may be able to get the ending and some may be as confused about the ending as others on this board.

Bizarre
merachi25927 December 2013
My husband and I found this movie very bizarre.

There was a lot going on in the story that was a little hard to follow. There were too many scenes replayed to make a plot point but not enough of the things that were happening were explained to help the viewer understand. If you were to try to watch this movie without reading a summary of what it was about you'd be totally lost.

I thought the acting was very good. But the problem I had was with the main character. He was quite self destructive. I really wanted to like him, and he really did seem to want to do the right things for other people, he went about many things the wrong way.

I wasn't horrible, just quite.....strange!

Watch Your Step as You "Fall" in Love With 'One Fall'
gregg-19012 August 2011
One Fall tells the story of James Bond (I love this…reminds me of a name pun I employed in one of my screenplays), played by Marcus, who miraculously survived a 200 foot fall. After a very brief recovery (that's an understatement), he disappeared from the city of One Fall without explanation. He even left behind his beautiful fiancĂ©. He later returns to One Fall to face the music and use the gift he undeniably has. However, healing people doesn't come cheap. There's that moral dilemma I was talking about two paragraphs above. What would you do if you had this power? Would you exploit it or use it for greater good? James wrestles with this and more as people all around him, even loved ones, start to push him away. They can't understand him. To them, the man who fell never came back. James must come to grip with who he is, why he survived that fall and what he is meant to do in this world with his gift. Again…wow! The story is not only profound in my opinion, but very powerful, deep and touching. (Read the full review at whysoblu dot com)

really lacking
shootingangles8 April 2012
Some of the acting was quite good, the directing was overall - weak. I found the story and the film to be self important and really lacking in originality (for the type of film that has only that to offer).

The music was saccharin and most of the scenes were over lit, creating something that just screams: TV production, trying to be a serious film.

I see that the lead actor also wrote and directed this project. Not surprising.

The actor has charisma, no doubt, but as a director, his work is very homogenized and predictable.

I had big hopes for this film after finding it listed on iTunes. Really disappointing to pay the same for this film as a film by Oliver Stone, One of the Scotts or any of a list of A list pros.

Give this one a miss. My teeth are still aching.

I'm not even going to begin to delve into the imperfections in the production here. Not worth the time.

Thumbs way down.

one fall is a FANTASY!!
dfwforeignbuff7 March 2014
I saw this film in my TV room on net flix march 2014 I liked it/. Parts of the film were weak but over all I think the idea was good and well presented. Its a fantasy accept it as that!! magic realism is "an aesthetic style or genre of fiction in which magical elements blend with the real world. The story explains these magical elements as real occurrences, presented in a straightforward manner that places the "real" and the "fantastic" in the same stream of thought. Although it is most commonly used as a literary genre, magic realism also applies to film and the visual arts." I think writer/director Marcus Dean fuller did a great job considering he wrote and directed!! At age eighteen, while climbing with friends, Marcus fell over one hundred feet breaking and his back in several places. After weeks in the hospital he received the news that he would not regain use of his legs. Two weeks later he walked out of the hospital. This experience became the inspiration for his first feature film, One Fall.Mr. Fuller serves on the Yale School of Drama Board of Advisors, the Yale University Alumni Board, The Nantucket Theater Institute Board of Directors and the Hyde Museum Board of Trustees. He holds degrees in English Literature, Philosophy and Psychology and is a graduate of the Yale School of Drama.

Good fantasy
jrecorn31 August 2021
The premise was great. Some acting left a bit to be desired. I enjoyed it for the fantasy of the story. Directing a movie while also playing the main character is certainly not an easy feat.

Definitely Makes You Think
jkuruzovich18 September 2011
Warning: Spoilers
I just saw One Fall, and I really liked it. We were lucky enough to have the writer/director/producer/actor Marcus Dean Fuller there after the movie explaining to the audience some of the ideas underlying the plot and how the film almost didn't get made (which sounds like a really interesting story in itself). I think that what makes the film truly special is that the characters, context, and relationships are deep enough that it is easy to bring your own meaning out of the story.

To me, the story is about healing (right, you say, you got that from the trailer!) and happiness. James is a superhero-like character that heals people with just a touch; in a way similar to the character John Coffey (like the drink) in Steven King's the Green Mile. Like Coffey, at the beginning of the film James is jailed for trying to heal someone who died. This is where the similarities end though, as James is a complicated and at times unlikable character. Rather than simply offering to heal others because he wanted to "help" (as Coffey did), James begins to charge people in the hospital as a way of getting his financial life back on track. This goes well at first, as the patients in the hospital are physically better and seem happy with the arrangement. After a while, however, as James spirals inwards into depression his healing powers also begin to fail him, and everyone from the hospital gets sick again.

James' healing power highlights the complex nature of happiness; even though James can heal the physical ailments of others, he can't heal his own battered psyche and all of the relationships in his life are in complete disarray. Even with superpowers, we see through his character that life can be hard and seem unfair at times. Happiness is a difficult to attain state that is dependent on both mind and body.

While James is able to heal his body throughout most of the movie, James is only able to heal his mind once he stops looking inside himself (and inside a bottle). Near the end of the movie he makes an important change in perspective to improve the relationships in his life. The character Tab (like the drink) is no longer the annoying neighbor but is a valued "sidekick." He donates the ill-gotten gains from healing to the cancer stricken bartender's college fund. He rekindles the relationship with his fiancé by showing her he still is the person he used to be, and he forgives himself and his father for his mother's death. He is able to heal himself by healing the relationships in his life. Happiness follows.

Through the character of Tab (who brings some hilarious moments to the movie) we also see James' power to heal others in a way that is not physical. In seeing his comic book hero come to life though James, it gives Tab the courage to take on the kids at school and pursuing police. While we aren't privy to the schoolyard after the movie, we can imagine a healed Tab able to stand up for himself with a newfound confidence won from a real friendship with a superhero.

So here is the inspiring message that this movie helps us to remember: we all can have superpowers when it comes to healing the relationships in our lives. These superpowers can come from something as simple as a changed perspective that focuses on positively affecting the world. While we cannot heal a physical ailments of those around us, friendship, generosity, love, and forgiveness each can help to heal our own lives and the lives of others.

So…this is definitely one to check out.

Movie of Hope
joelstrong24 July 2012
I recently watched One Fall on Demand. It truly is a wonderful, wonderful movie. I was very refreshed to watch something that inspired hope. I'm looking forward to more of Marcus Fuller's works.

The movie is about a man, James, who develops the power to heal sick people around him after he somehow survives a fall off of a cliff just outside a town, One Fall. After the fall, James leaves his hometown. He didn't know how to reveal his new power to his friends and family. After a short stint in jail, he returns home. He begins to use his gift for personal profit--everyone loves his gift, but secretly he's using it only for financial and status gain.

James begins to question his own motives and must figure out why he was fortunate enough to survive such a drastic fall.

It's a grand tale of how we all use our individual gifts--sometimes for selfish reasons, but ultimately, we must make sacrifices and place our talents in the right places. Enjoyed the movie very much! Give it a watch!

I loved it!

Warning: Spoilers
Some of these critics are so full of themselves. If you want to sit down and enjoy a sweet and inspiring film, do yourself a favor and watch this some evening with no expectation and prejudgment and you will most likely fall in love with film as I have. Sure some of the story might be a little ambiguous in the beginning however it works for this film. It allows the wonderment we had as kids to surface and bloom like a flower in summertime. I was enchanted how the ability to heal was unfolded in the story line. I felt that this was a great first effort by Marcus Dean Fuller and hope to see more come down the road. I stand up and cheer.

One fall for love
Bernie44449 January 2024
James Bond (Marcus Dean Fuller) a man with an unfinished past takes a 200 foot fall off a local landmark. He survives; not only that but finds in the process that he has gained the power to heal people,

As with all people that gain abilities, he must figure out why (if there is a way) and how to handle it. Eventually, he will have to go home and come to grips with whom he is and, in the process, wrap up some unfinished business.

The pace is a bit slow, and it counts on more visual than a verbal description. You get the feeling that this is an independent film.

Similar plots and execution can be found in Resurrection (1980).
