this is not Turkish horror, please no!
poyrazbaklan3 December 2012
Warning: Spoilers
I thought the first Dabbe movie wasn't very scary but still a decent attempt at horror, despite being obviously inspired by Japanese cinema. And by that I mean some scenes ripped off from Kairo and Ring. Still it scared a pretty bunch of people that they decided to film a sequel. So apparently they gave the director a camera, a couple actors and exactly two hours to film the whole thing. You can "feel" the plot going nowhere, even the actors aren't very convinced that this is a professional movie and not some video someone would shot to put on youtube. The premise is actually good. It is the end times and the world is about to end, in the shape of a black smoke descending from the sky to...make people zombies? There is scene where the destruction is seen on TV, and it is kind of good, not because it is very well done, no but it is not everyday we see Istanbul getting demolished in a movie, with fires and downing bridges and all. But the rest is characters getting scared by nothing on screen, and how do we know that? They keep saying "I am so scared, God I am really scared this time!" I thought director Hasan Karacadag really had good intentions with the first movie, trying to create a Turkish horror franchise, and when that botched I thought he did not have enough skill. Now with this one, I am not even sure of what he was trying to do.

sorry but just a disappointment...
sertacakinwebber2 January 2010
Hasan Karacadağ's 2nd movie d@bbe was a hope and a new point of view for Turkish horror films. Japanese horror film style was linked with Turkish beliefs, at the end, there was an impressive job and good start for this kind.

However,d@bbe 2 just aimed to scare with sudden reacts. And they forgot something. There is no subject of the film!!! Full of interesting noises, voices and meaningless screams. you're feeling yourself in a noisy industrial estate...

There will be an end of the series with Decc@l, I hope they are gonna focus on subject and make this film forgotten..

Nothing really happens in the movie except for overacting and unnecessary yelling. I can't put into words how boring this movie was.

MY EARS REALLY HURT
MahyarErshad18 November 2021
This movie had a childish story. Nothing scary happens and you wont find out what was that black stuff. Don't use headphones and try to adjust the volume under 10% because your ears will have 1 tough hour of screams screams and screams. That's it, the movie should be called Scream!!.

Laughably bad attempt at a horror movie...
paul_haakonsen12 December 2022
Right, well I was not familiar with the "Dabbe" or "D@bbe" movie franchise, prior to late in 2022 as I happened to stumble upon them. I had the opportunity to sit down and watch the 2009 "D@bbe 2" movie, and opted to do so without knowing what I was in for. All I knew was that it was a Turkish horror movie, and since I've never seen a Turkish movie, of course I wanted to watch this movie from writer and director Hasan Karacadag.

I made it 50 minutes into the 85 minutes runtime, then I just gave up. This movie is definitely one of the worst horror movies I have ever stumbled upon. Someone should have told writer and director Hasan Karacadag that less is more. The director was constantly bombarding the audience with something sinister or supernatural. I kid you not when I say that every single scene had something unseen moving about, skulking or lurking, or had some ominous and foreboding darkness creeping in. It was just too much. It made the movie into a joke and stripped every single aspect of horror away from it. It was just difficult to sit there and watch it and having to take the movie serious as a horror movie.

The character gallery in "D@bbe 2" just made little sense. I mean, whom in the right mind would just shrug off all those supernatural events as being nothing and continue on with the daily lives? And I have to say that the movie didn't exactly have the most interesting or exciting of characters milling about.

Needless to say that since "D@bbe 2" was the first Turkish movie I have seen, then I wasn't familiar with the cast ensemble. However, I can't claim that I was impressed with the performances that I witnessed here.

"D@bbe 2" was a swing and a miss. The constant bombardment of something sinister or supernatural in every single scene was just ridiculous. And after having suffered through 50 minutes of "D@bbe 2", I have to say that I am not going to bother with tracking down the first movie, nor am I going to bother with parts three through six either.

My rating of "D@bbe 2" lands on a one out of ten stars.

Improved - to a degree
kosmasp11 November 2021
I guess I am a glutton for punishment. After not really being excited about the first movie, I thought, well these were succesful enough to warrant so many sequels ... let's do another one (and as I know myself I probaly will do another one ... and watch the rest on Netflix too).

Having said that and as I stated on the summary I wrote, I do think this is an improvement to the first one. Not just acting wise and compressed story wise, but especially when it comes to the visuals. That includes the effects that got also a bit better than the first one.

You still have all the cringing and quite annyoing sound effects/scares. So if that really makes you mad, you probably shouldn't watch the movie at all ... I was on the verge for sure. The fear of the dark, the fear of the unknown (on your computer if you know what that is - it's bigger than the cell phone you are probably holding right now in case you are wondering) and the fear of strange noises ... so many of them. So there is something here - the question is if it is enough to make you actually want to watch it.

Attack of the black smoke things!
mohaniyer-6903212 December 2022
This is a very cheap-looking, badly acted C-grade movie. Besides the cringe-worthy special effects, nothing in the movie is explained or even makes sense.

What in hell are the smoke things supposed to be? Sometimes they leave people alone or just knock them off their feet, but at other times, they turn them into slobbering zombies or kill them outright. And the scenes of Istanbul being attacked looks so fake; like a computer screen-saver.

The teenage girls are way too irritating and one of them especially keeps freaking out and screaming for most of the time she was on the screen. I was actually happy when she turned into a zombie and stopped shrieking.

If this is what the apocalypse looks like, then I would say it lacks a severe deficit of vision and imagination on part of the director.

The lead actress was quite hot though; so one star just for her.

Simply a good fantastic horror!
kendibolgem11 January 2010
Dabbe 2 is a strange Turkish horror film for people who want to see a story from side of eastern prophecy of judgment days on big screen. I don't know that what I said but this film has really strange atmosphere.I think, its something little different or something new. But I am not sure for telling my thoughts because I can't explain that why I liked it so much.May be its weird but good. The cinematography and editing is good. Some scenes are dark and haunting.Unfortunately acting is sometime disturbing, this is main problem of Hasan Karacadag's films. OK,nowadays It is hard to find a good and original horror film from Turkish filmmakers and yes I know this one is not masterpiece but For Oriental horror lovers , this is a must.

OK,I liked it...
saliharslan26 January 2010
Actually Turkish horror films are awful. But Turkish horror filmmaker Hasan Karacadag's second effort(semum) was a brilliant movie for Turkish film industry.Dabbe 2 is new horror from same director. The storyline of this part is interesting.OK,I know it is not exactly a never-seen-before sort of storyline however some elements were eye catching. In the movie you will see that An apocalyptic Islamic prophecy met strange black smokes. The background sound design is really effective, camera-work and editing is creative. The basic idea of the movie is clever; If suddenly a strange creatures come from beyond of sky what will you do? Do you ask help from god for saving you or are you say to god 'Why you abandoned us? which one?.I think this movie has a potential for a remade with Hollywood.because it reminds me the Hollywood movie 'Signs' from Night Shyamalan. And lastly I have to say this time the special effects are OK for Turkish standards.Take a look it! overall 10/7

He does it again; with finesse!
yarilo-slavic28 May 2014
The second movie in the series successfully moved to the next level and is no less scarier than the first. Weird, unique and strange; as the story weaved around, it sucked me into it and I didn't even move from the chair till the end. Hasan Karacadag is amazing. The movie is so potent and scary.

Nowhere did it resemble any horror movie that i've seen. But It was difficult to find proper subtitles for the movie. But when I did, I was so happy and couldn't wait anymore.

I am sure these movies would be cult classics in the future and more people would watch it irrespective the language.

I would give it 7/10.
