It's Christmas and Leonard's mother, Christine Baranski, comes to visit. She has three things to tell him which Sheldon already knew, including he death of his dog. She is a great character. Penny finds a way to loosen her up. Baranski is superb and steals every scene.

Another visit from Leonard's mom which as expected ended up being incredibly funny. Her relationship with Sheldon which made Leonard feel left out was already fun on its own. Even better was her talking to Howard about his homosexual relationship with Raj. And when she got drunk with Penny one couldn't stop laughing. Especially when they came to confront Leonard and she kissed Sheldon.

After Penny and Leonard watch "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" during which Sheldon comments how he felt compatible with the leading character...until he gave the presents back, Sheldon casually mentions Leonard's mother is coming. Tomorrow. Penny is aghast since she didn't know about it and becomes more so when Sheldon also mentions that her boyfriend's mom doesn't know about his relationship with Penny. Actually, Beverly and Sheldon have been e-mailing each other about stuff her son Leonard doesn't know like her surgery, her divorce, and their dog's death...This was another hilarious ep of "The Big Bang Theory" with Christine Baranski's return as Leonard's mom a big treat here. Her delivery with the lines are just sublime here especially when she and Penny have a few drinks. Oh, and just try to keep a straight face when she discusses with Howard his "relationship" with Raj! So on that note, "The Maternal Congruence" was another excellent episode of "The Big Bang Theory".

Big Bang Theory is always better when one of the secondary characters such as Leonard''s mother is part of the show. For some reason, recent seasons have not featured Christine Baranski as Leonard's mother, which is a sadly lacking asset.
Leonard's mother is quick to prey on his mental weakness while treating Sheldon as a trusted friend and ally.
She makes short work of Howard and Raj asking about her feeling that they are continuing to hide a homosexual relationship, which neither have the necessary verbal weapons to defuse her verbal taunts.
However, Penny is able to make Leonard's mother more human by dropping by the Cheesecake Factory to get her drunk.
If the Big Bang Theory would use their secondary characters and somehow break up Leonard and Penny, it could return to its strongest seasons before taking a wrong turn and making the show unfunny.

I have Reviewed OVER 500 "Christmas Films and Specials". Please BEWARE Of films and specials with just one review! For instance When "It's a POSITIVE" chances are that the reviewer was involved with the production. "If its Negative" then they may have a grudge against the film for whatever reason. I am fare about these films.
It's Christmas time and Leonard mom comes to visit. Lots a huge laughs in this episode. Look at the final moment and it looks like Jim and Christine they unintentionally hit their heads pretty hard .

I hate the moment when Leonard's mother told Howard "...you stick to this construct...", she has not a single reason to not believe him Bernadette. And bonus is Leonard on her side, making fun of Howard even she is making Leonard's life miserable. I don't Beverly and i skip every episode with her.

I think this episode overeggs itself as being a 'Christmas one' - all the festivities are over and done with before the title credits.
This episode is a fine example of how a guest star comes in and completely takes over proceedings, leaving everyone else in their wake.
