Couldn't stop watching
spiderandwolf7 June 2023
Tbh this anime was random boring and the little romantic scenes of her falling and him catching her were embarrassing and random, but for some reason I couldn't stop watching this anime, it was alsmost so stupid that I couldn't stop watching. So I guess that's good. I'm rating it a 7 just because it's a slow but randomly dramatic anime that makes no sense but it's still interesting to watch especially if there's nothing else to watch. I like putting things on in the background while I draw so this was a great show. Def worth a watch if there's nothing else to watch. I didn't like the ending though because it was an abrupt cliff hanger that showed for a season two. But I don't STINKIN know what else they could do with this show! 12 episodes seems like enough of a girl running around making sugar sculptures and almost getting killed for it. Like what.. but what ev, can't wait for season 2, y'all should watch it!

It Had So Much Poteniel
chelseajmbelehar1 December 2023
This show was gorgeously done with its visuals and dialogue. It was cute, fascinating, and had surprising depth. The plots were good and well executed but they seemed to be resolved rather quickly. It was almost like a car break check in the story line. The characters all have great personalities that don't blurry together but work together! Which is something great and rare to see! Visually it has some surprisingly touching moments. Honestly it really made me appreciate real sugar art and glass art.

The insanely fast plot at the end with the villain was very disappointing. You don't get to see if build. It's just in your face, ugly for a bit then gone. If it weren't for that it might have had a 8/10 from me, if not higher.

Loved it!
micahgrrr14 April 2023
I loved this so much! It's such an interesting plot and I love the animation! Their chemistry made me kick my feet and feel butterflies in my stomach. But my greatest takeaway is probably how inequality and misogyny were displayed in this anime. The way Anne was treated because of her talent and sex reflect modern society, especially in a male-dominated industry. And I honestly wasn't mad about the ending. Ya'll can just read the manga/novel or something and pick up where you left off. If you hate cliffhangers then don't watch this. If you don't have any plans to read the manga, this is not for you. To ya'll who enjoyed this despite the ending, cheers to you for loving this! We're getting season 2 soon! :D.

Amazing anime
tokisakitks22 September 2023
This is a charming and cozy anime, I love the relationship between Anne and challe and how it develops throughout the series.

The art style of this anime is beautiful and it really fits the story, the designs of the sugar confections and fairy wings are a highlight for me especially. I love all the outfits the characters wear it really adds to the fantasy aspect of the storym

I think Anne is a really interesting protagonist, she's not perfect but she always tries to do the right thing. I like how she actually has a goal and isn't just another passive character. But challe fen challe is a real standout character, I like how his relationship with Anne evolves as the series goes on how he starts off disliking her but by the end wants to protect her.

It's so nice to finally have another shoujo anime, I feel like we haven't had any in so long and I have absolutely adored every episode of this and I think anyone who enjoys a classic shoujo anime will enjoy this show and the world it is set in.

A beautiful romance
alygrace-9637028 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
(Spoiler Warnings Ahead)

After watching Sugar Apple Fairy Tale from beginning to end, I can give my honest review.

The story is about a young woman name Anne Halford who not only dreams of becoming a Silver Sugar Master, but also to become friends with the fairies. Despite the beautiful artwork in the anime, however, it's not all sugar confections and fairies. If anything Sugar Apple Fairy Tale opened our eyes to two realities.

1. The slavery and is he mistreatment of the fairies. In this world, if a fairy only has one wing, then that means that a human has a hold of it and they are the humans' servant. We can see many humans looking down on fairies and they even crush their wing when they disobey because, fun fact, their wings are also their hearts. Anne feel bad for the fairies and is shown to hate treating them like slaves. Moreover, she hates seeing the fairies get hurt.

2. The trials and challenges of becoming an artist. Through out the story Anne encounters many hardships on her journey. From rivals who would do anything, to win to harsh words of people who don't believe in her. A lot of this comes from the fact that she is a girl, and female sugar artist are not as common as male sugar artist.

Despite these two factors, Anne doesn't give up. She pushes forward and she keeps trying until she reaches her goal. All the while she remains kind to both the fairies and the humans who believe in her, including her friends and travel companions Mithril and Challe. I love how this anime doesn't brush over and/or sugarcoat (no pun intended) these two problems, but instead works them into the story to help Anne grow as a character and also balances the good and the bad.

There's also Challe Fen Challe, a fairy who not only serves as the deuteragonist, but also the main love interest for Anne. When we first meet him, he has a very sharp tongue and is pretty mean towards people especially ones he just met. But considering that the person he cared for, a human girl named Liz, was killed by her own kind, and then was forced to work for the humans as a warrior fairy, you can't really blame him. So when Anne comes by looking for a warrior fairy to protect her on her journey to Lewiston, he took this as an opportunity for her to buy him so that he can take his wing back and be free.

Now as mentioned before, Anne doesn't like how the fairies are treated and hates the fact that she has to buy a warrior fairy just to make sure she gets to Lewiston safely, so she tries to be kind to him, become friends with him, and even promised him to give his wing back.

Challe, of course, was pretty closed off at first, constantly reminding her that she is his master and that she must order to do something not ask. But as goes by he starts to open up to Anne and even tells her about Liz. And in Episode 4, when she gave him back his wing he chooses to stay with her, not as a servant but as a friend. And from there, their relationship starts to grow.

The other characters impact the story as well. We have other fairy characters like Mithril Lid Pod who travels with Anne to return a favor after she saved his life, Benjamin a sleepy little labor fairy who works for Cat, and Cathy a Labor fairy who works for Jonas.

We also have some human characters who show the good side and the bad side of humans The good side being shown by: Hugh Mercury who admires Anne skills and pushes her to be better, Alph Hingley (Cat) a Silver Sugar Master who respects Anne's hard work, and Kieth Powell a sincere artist who sees Anne as a worthy Rival.

And the bad side being shown by: Jonas Anders who brags about his skills, Sammy Jones who is just an all around jerk, and Bridget Page who is at Anne for being an artist as while as being a spoiled brat who that she can just take what ever she wants. (More on that later)

Music, art, and animation wise, it's pretty good too.

I really like the art style of this anime, from the character designs to the backgrounds it was done beautifully.

The animation is nice too, every movement and expressions were done carefully and with consideration.

The music, well the background music did a good job to emotion in certain scenes, and while some might not like the opening and the ending of the anime, I personally really like them.

From beginning to end these anime was a delight to watch and I love seeing Anne grow, because as an artist who is just started out I relate to Anne on a personal level. That being said, the first season of these anime does unfortunately end on a sad note, because Bridget who also fell in love with Challe, saw Sammy sabotage on the day of the contest and wouldn't speak up unless Challe agrees to become her servant. Challe agrees, because he knows that becoming a Silver Sugar Master was Anne's Dream, so he basically sold his freedom so that her dream can come true. However, this doesn't sour my feelings fo this anime. Because as I said before, this is just season one, season 2 has been confirmed and know deep down that Anne will get Challe. And with that knowledge and hope, as well as the fact that I want to see Bridget pay for her actions, you can bet that I will watch season 2 when it comes out.

Overall, I love Sugar Apple Fairy Tale. It has become one of my top five favorite anime, and if you're a fan of romance or fantasy that I highly recommend it.

Rotten Apple
RebelPanda25 January 2023
Sugar Apple Slavery Tale purposefully presents an idiotic female protagonist to absolve her of deplorable actions, primarily: Buying a slave. The plot is an excuse for a romance between an edgy bishounen fairy and the self-insert lead. However, Sugar Apple possesses a lot of self-awareness. The show makes an effort to frame slavery as an evil act, and that our heroine is only doing this because she absolutely must-that she definitely wants to treat him well and free him (eventually). Her artificially good natured personality feels like an act, and her moe character design seems engineered to manipulate your expectations. She's not a bad person, she's just ordering her slave because that's what the rules say! It's similar to when a person acts overly nice to you, but they're secretly writing an anime about a cute slave owner.

At the very least, it's intriguing from a meta level! Seeing the writers struggle to evade criticism provides entertainment. On the bright side, the series looks and sounds good so far. J. C. Staff are working within their limits, which means minimal animation to maintain consistent art quality. The water-color background art, expressive character designs, and vibrant colors are really all it needs. On the music side, it's solid as well. Good OP and relaxing ED. The composer's use of chimes for transitions and magic effects really suits the fairy tale aesthetic. If you're immune to slavery apologia, this could make for an entertaining and relaxing watch.

Shoujo is a genre deserving more recognition, this is not the way to do it. From the outside, this apple looks beautiful, but peel back the skin and it is rotten to the core.

I wish more people would give it a try
fdeeaa1 December 2023
The story is beautiful, the characters are great and the plot is cleverly crafted. It is truely a fairy tale! Anne is a very interesting protagonist, a character whose strenght lies not in fighting skills but in art, she is a sugar artisan full of compassion and kindness. The world of humans and fairies is not without conflict, but this is what makes the show interesting, we have two different species at odds with each other and despite their differences, there are friendships created and true love blooming. Anne, Challe and the rest deserve a second season and I hope from the bottom of my heart that they will recive it.

I'm disappointed after watching this how it ended
gjgowshik24 March 2023
The irritating ending made me hate this series. I never saw that coming . I'm honestly disappointed 😞. Until the last episode i was enjoying the series but the last episode made me hate this show. It's very sad depressing cliffhanger ending. I don't even know whether this show will get season 2 or not. I regret watching this show after seeing how it ended. Beginning this show gives the vibe of feel good romance type fairy tale but the last episode of the show suddenly turned it in to sad depressing ending. If I known how this show is going to end i would have started to watch. Honestly don't watch this show thinking it's feelgood romance.

I am loving this anime!
sydneyclairedesigns9 March 2024
I am loving this anime!! I really hope they make season two. It's magical and unique. I am loving the storyline and the characters so far. The art of this anime is absolutely beautiful and magical. All the sugar art creations are lovely and unique. I love the connection Anne has with her artistic heritage and seeing her unique talent come through is so sweet. She took what her mother passed down to her and is finding her own unique artistic flare with it. I am just loving this so much. I really hope they continue on with this story. I can't wait to see how the characters connections develop along the way.

I Really Loved It
extraplay-6183810 February 2024
I can't give it a 10 as yet as all the English Dub wasn't out and I don't know how it ends - but my heart was moved.

I don't even know why I clicked on this anime, as normally I stay away from animes that look fluffy, I got that wrong for sure.

This anime is warming for the soul. The main character is determined, trusting, and driven by the love her mother installed into her and her sweet nature.

The other protaganist is a fairy who is cautious, guarded it is his defense mechanism. Through the female lead he learns to trust and open his heart to her initially. They learn and grow together as great companions. I am intrigued to see where their story goes and how they overlap.

I'm excited for a second season.

INFURIATING!
virarin25 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I am sorry, but I am furious of the ending! Bad writing to leave some viewers feeling miserable! Awful! Awful! Awful! 1st off, I am not a fan of a girl protagonist way younger compared to her love interest. (Geese! Can't they at least make her 18??!) but I gave it a shot since I like the drawing of the guy fairy and hoping that it will have a satisfying ending. But boy am I wrong! The story started slow and it ended badly! Ugh! I hate it! I can't bare to think what will that that Bridgette girl make him do for her unwillingly!!!! Because he gave up his freedom for the kid!!!!! I hate it! I hate it! I hate it! The story really got me in a bad way! I don't think I will read the manga soon nor will I watch the second season if there's any . I feel like I wasted my time my emotions in to this anime. Well, its not like my opinion matters. I just want to vent out my disappointment.

Very disappointed by the ending
No-1AnImEfAn25 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I will never recommend to watch this anime. It really frustrated me with such a ending. Till first 11 episode anime was very good ,but they really messed up ending which really made me hate this whole series. They should have given one more episode to give a better closer which would make series feel completed , rather than left hanging in middle of story with disappointing ending.

Seriously recommending not to watch this series if you don't want to end up getting disappointed or at least wait for season 2 to come up so that you don't feel left hanging in middle of nowhere with disappointed ending.

It's a ridiculous and frustrating watch
hanmeinacajegas12 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I normally don't write reviews but i just felt like watching it was a waste of my time. I could've watched better ones. The characters are so basic - from the self-righteous unnecessarily stubborn damsel in distress FL, a brooding usual cold pretty boy ML whose world eventually just revolved around the FL. Like dude, they don't even have any charm. Their interactions and 'romance' are just plain meh. Mostly revolving around staring and being roughly held by the ML ugh.

And don't get me started with the issues they face. It's the same thing! With just different characters attempting to undermine her. And in the most obvious and ridiculous of ways working under the premise of 'jealousy' and nothing else. I swear, a lot of these characters are just driven by mad jealous thoughts (e.g. Jonas, Sammy, Bridget and that lady from Mr Kat's)

And the concept of confirming whether the sugar is theirs or not? Or if the work is another person's or not is just too light and with no concrete evidences, just word of mouth and 'witnesses' that, honestly, could've just been people making up stories (which actually does happen in Ep. 11). And really, in that heavily patriarchal society with no high regards of women, accepting words of a woman as witness in contrast to other males who hold more power and authority in the sugar apple artisan world, it's stupid. Really stupid. When they could've just argued their defences, presented Jonas as evidence of the assault and eventually play connect the dots and logically acknowledge that the sugar was made by Ann. And really, i could think of several more ways to deal with the issue better and that's why this frustrates me too much.

Also, their issues could've been resolved easier and could have shown the dirty works of that one artisan school have they only thought and strategised, which of course, they didn't do. And the FL already had bad history with those other artisan people so she should've done much better in terms of guarding her sugar and being on guard. She even has two fairies and other artisans who could help her out in that area. Literally could've kept a bottle of her sugar on a pouch of some sort as proof if they ever attempt anything bad. But noooooo. She had to be too trusting. And when it was too late, ML didn't even think, he just fought head on. And yeah, with the ML 'sacrificing his freedom' blah blah that could again, be handled better.

Overall, it's just bad. Art is great and the sugar made is pretty, but that's pretty much it. The rest is so subpar i got irritated and frustrated halfway through. I wanted to give it a chance cause the sugar looks yum, but meh should've just dropped it. Wasted my time finishing it.
