A documentary that doesn't deserve to be boring
Mirja-b15 August 2022
A good documentary, but like many others it is far too long and constant repetition of events. The creators could have made it at least one episode shorter. Another thing that bothers me a little is the child being exploited both by name and photo, that would have been unthinkable in my country. I really hope this is not something that affects her further.

For Those Wanting Deep Dive Versions
AudioFileZ25 November 2022
The first season of Wild Crimes is about the death of Toni Henthorn. You may have seen this on one or more of the news magazine network shows. This is the most fleshed out portrait of convicted murderer Harold Hawthorn. I recommend this only if a deeper dive is of interest.

The second season episodes of the series Wild Crime keys on a random discovery of a human forearm in Yellowstone Park. After further searching fails to turn up additional evidence park rangers were left with a mystery. Who, when, how, and by whom would be like a puzzle with scant pieces to work with. Time, technology, and many people's long-standing efforts create an amazing journey of twists and turns In the end it is compelling for what was found and the likely way it happened.

With the above said, these 5 episodes play out like a book. By this I mean slow and steady. The high-points would be able to be condesnsed, but then it would just be a crime story. Here the writers and director show all of the principal players in depth. The viewer will feel as if you know these people and the climate of their lives as all intersect. It is crucial to understanding of a murder leaving scant evidence to go on. This crime could have easily remained a big unknown, yet so much eventually fell into place whereby not only the victim is identified, but also a likely scenario of how a particular perpetrator rises to the fore. Adding to this is it most likely can never be positively solved in one crucial aspect of if the most likely suspect actually did it. I like to think, "this was a book worth watching".

An indepth examination of two caes
atleverton19 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The intro of this series is quite deceptive. It makes you expect a sort of cops in the wilderness. But, in fact, the two seasons do a thorough examination of two separate cases. Both cases are interesting in their own right, I think the second season has wider societal implications. That's because a potential serial killer named henry Lee Lucas is involved. We know for a fact that Henry Lee Lucas murdered three people. His mother, an underage girl he was associated with, and her guardian. And the problem was when he was arrested for the second and third of these murders he started confessing to many many murders. This was in retrospect a pretty obvious attempt to get benefits for himself and avoid the death penalty as long as he could. But it also stems from the fact that there may have been a misunderstanding when he was booked with a crime. The judge said do you understand that you are being charged with murder and he said yes sir I have hundreds of them. The courtroom went wild because everybody assumed that he was claiming to have murdered hundreds of people. But I think it's possible he misunderstood the question or he wasn't paying attention to the question. He may just have had hundreds of charges against him and that's what he meant which is more realistic. Serial killers aren't as bright as people think that they are but even by these not very high standards henry Lee Lucas just seemed not intelligent enough to commit these crimes. People later went back and debunked the possibility that he committed many of the murders and in fact some of the investigators invented murders and crimes and Henry confess to those as well. So in the second season the the case is one which Henry has confessed to. But there's very little evidence that he had anything to do with it and in fact his confession probably helped misdirect the investigation away from the people who were involved. I think there is a reputation that police and the United States don't solve as many crimes as they used to and while that may be true I think there's or there should be an understanding that some of the cases that were solved in the past were solved in such a sloppy manner that the real culprits never were brought to Justice.

Welk-crafted documentary
llwkr1 October 2021
Watching this program was a chilling experience, but I learned so much about human nature. The family members and agents that shared their feelings and thoughts sent a signal to all of us to watch out for red flags in the relationships of our loved ones. I think they have helped prevent crimes in the future.

Stunning Documentary
steve-6039627 October 2021
I don't think I have ever seen a better crafted documentary. To see the extent these expert professionals went through - their thoroughness, dedication and care for the child Toni Henthorn left behind - was amazing. The viewer gets to see - and live through the eyes of the prosecutors and detectives and family and friends - a very engaging and intricate story of our fellow citizens devoted to getting justice for the victims of this heinous murderer, Harold Henthorn.

Well done. Strongly recommend.

Engaging Documentary
lgbrodhead3 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Full confession, I worked as a Park Ranger in 2012 for Rocky Mountain National Park. I remember when this "accident" occurred, because the park reports all incidents the next day. As someone who's hike the Deer Mountain Trail many times, I couldn't believe someone fell there. The trail is not exposed at all, seemed very odd at the time.

Watching the documentary really intrigued me with all the back story. I didn't know anything about the story of the first wife. What an evil man. I also did not know about the NPS special investigative force -- super interesting and engagin.

Excellent Detective Work Wins the Day

Warning: Spoilers
One of the best documentaries I've seen, could NOT stop watching. It gave me a greater insight on the work the men and women who work for the National Park Service do and it's admirable. Unfortunately, it also gives insight on the way the minds of narcissistic psychopaths work and how easy it is for them to manipulate kind people.

Only 35 agents I'd never heard of to cover 85,000,000 acres...
tailsofthewind23 November 2021
Warning: Spoilers
They're called ISB agents, and I've already forgotten (please forgive me) what ISB means, but I am a US Navy veteran, and I am throwing you a salute! After watching this documentary, I have nothing but complete respect for your unheralded investigative service.

By the end of this story, you will have pressed on until every agency who needed to be involved to bring justice for these two lost women are with you for the fight. 35 agents for 85 million acres, think of how easily this case could have been let go...

I hope to see more documentaries coming from those vast acres that many of us have never seen and you few men and women about which most of us have ever even heard.

Fascinating show - very gripping and great production value
mcrae_k26 October 2022
I really enjoyed the first season but the second season is even better. Couldn't take my eyes off the screen and wanted to watch the next episode immediately. Very interesting case and they have interviews with all those involved. How they track down the identity from just the remains is fascinating and hats off to those who must have spent countless hours researching the genealogy. Hats off also to all the law enforcement who never gave up. The show has a very high production value, well edited and shot with really well done reenactments and great cinematography of Yosemite valley as well. Hope that there is another season.

Great tv
dabmim17 July 2023
I watched both series of this and loved it! The first series was individual stories, while the second consisting of four episodes, was concentrating one one story.

Imagine going to a beautiful natural park, all around there are mountains, valleys, water. Now add to the mix some with murder on their mind, and it's a recipe for nothing good.

Often the murders in these vast rugged areas are left for decades before even being discovered. Luckily as DNA gets better so dies the chance of finding the killer, and the four episodes of the second series show how scientific advances have moved on.

I'm hoping there might be a further series in time.

Keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time!
casslm23 February 2022
The way that this documentary was laid out was perfect, there was not too many episodes, but there was just enough to intrigue you! When one episode ends they ended on a cliffhanger each time making you want to see the next episode and it slowly builds towards the ending perfectly! This story was so tragic, but you can learn so much on what to look for in your loved ones relationships for warning signs!
