Sex & Nudity

  • Rose's "mom" seen in a shirt and underwear. Nothing shown besides front profile.

Violence & Gore

  • A man stabs himself with a pair of garden pliers in front of an elderly woman at a gas station, caught on a CCTV camera. Tons and tons of blood spray out of the man's body and all over the front a car.
  • A picture is shown of a heavily mutilated face.
  • Pictures of past suicides in the movie. Most of the pictures are incredibly gory and bloody. May upset some.
  • A woman accidentally bites her thumb creating a cut, some blood is shown.
  • Blood and gore is infrequent but when it happens there is lots of it. Only 2-3 main scenes that show it.
  • Contains intense scenes of violence including self-harm and suicide, blood, gore and disturbing images throughout the film

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The main character drinks wine to help her cope with post traumatic stress.
  • Main character tries to get a prescription for a medicine used to treat schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, etc. Character gulps glasses of wine to ease stress. Wine at dinner.
  • The film contains a verbal reference to drug addiction.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Very intense and creepy-looking sketches.
  • Plot involves and mentions suicide. Integral plot point.
  • A woman twists her neck (offscreen) and bends her face upside down while smiling outside of a car window.
  • Many solid jump scare scenes. One involving a mutilated face.
  • The film sustains a strong sense of foreboding and threat throughout, with central themes of trauma and death. There are frequent jump scares and some very strong violence.
  • Rose is listening to a recording of Laura on her laptop and keeps rewinding to investigate a low sound, the entity then appears next to her screaming her name, probably the most frighting scene as the jumpscare is quite unexpected
  • This movie is incredibly scary and disturbing at the same time.

Violence & Gore

  • A young woman uses a piece of broken pottery to cut deeply into her face. She then slices her neck open resulting with tons and tons of blood pouring out. Massive puddles of blood form. This scene is incredibly disturbing and bloody.
  • A man is killed by a sustained series of bloody stabs to his body. He smiles at one point with blood leaking from his mouth.
  • Several brutal sequences where supernatural entities rip off their faces in gory fashion.
  • People react in a shocked and appalled manner when a child opens a birthday present and lifts up a dead cat.
  • A large creature rips off its face revealing 3 rows of Jaws, it then removes all of the skin on its body. Raw and exposed flesh are all shown. And then crawls inside someone's mouth that it stretches open. Easily the most frightening scene in the whole movie.
  • In a dream sequence, a man witnessing a murder starts screaming and rips the skin off his face
  • A woman breaks the monster's arm (this is brief, however bone is shown), she then lights the monster aflame and it burns.
  • A character lights themselves on fire, they are smiling while doing so
  • A woman slits her own neck open with a piece of broken pottery. Lots of blood is shown pouring out from her neck
  • At the very last scene of the film, a character pours kerosene all over their body and proceeds to light themself on fire.
  • Animal cruelty where a cat goes missing and is found dead in a wrapped present for a children's birthday party.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • The main characters mother was an alcoholic and drug addict. She is shown dying of an overdose. There is puke around her mouth.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Rose's mother grows gigantic (to be cute) behind her bedroom door and laughs in a creepy manner. This scene can be very intense and disturbing for some viewers.
  • Rose sets herself on fire while smiling in front of Detective Joel just seconds before the credits.
  • The 'Smile' monster can be seen at the end of the film. It looks hideous with many different jaw bones attached. Very frightening.
  • A child pulls a dead cat out of a box. Blood is shown on the animal.
  • A creature rips off it's face showing five rows of teeth, then stretches someone's mouth open and crawls inside of it.
