Oh Boy!
Mehki_Girl8 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Me and hubby sometimes watch afternoon movies when we have no other plans. Usually, we watch something "scary".

We previewed this movie and it actually looked pretty good, so chose it.

It started off somewhat interesting and then made every left, right turn possible and just threw in everything and the kitchen sink.

The kid was cute, but not much of an actor. The main character came across as unstable, a terrible mother, and, worst of all, a terrible actor.

The actor who played the husband's mother was actually pretty good at being menacing.

This movie was all over the place. I kept thinking it was one thing and then it would become something else. I'll give it this, it kept us watching and had me yelling at the screen at the dumb, ineffectual "mom". The "twist" was revealed really early on, so...

The scenery was nice and the cinematography was really good. The farm was beautiful, but the story was a hot, convoluted mess! Lol!

How did this movie get released?
reverrb-2789429 November 2023
When a horror movie keeps you up at night, it's usually because they did a great job. This movie kept me awake because I was angry. This movie annoyed me so much that it inspired me to write my first review.

First of all, I'm not going to blame the actors. They should have never agreed to make this movie, and their agents probably aren't the brightest, but I don't think any amount of good acting could have made this movie any less terrible. Everything about this script should have landed it in the garbage.

The plot is seemingly interesting. The premise of the movie is somewhat attractive. The first few scenes made me want to give it a chance. About 1/3 of the way through the movie, I was faced with a decision. I knew finishing this movie was going to be a grotesque waste of time, but part of me wanted to see just how bad it could get. It got inexplicably worse.

My theory about how this got released (or even made it to post production) is that whoever wrote the script is the child of a major Hollywood player. It's like some A-lister's 15 yr old child was given all the resources to make a movie. The plot twists will make you cringe harder than ever before. This script would have gotten a failing grade in a high-school level writing class.

In closing, I think interrogation experts should put this movie in their torture arsenal. 24 hours of this movie would be far more effective than waterboarding.

SO CORNY
moniquebrooks-386553 January 2024
The acting was horrible and it was all over the place for me. Definitely wouldn't recommend. At first seeing the preview I thought it was going to be good I WAS DEFINITELY WRONG. At least 80% of it seemed like they were reading from Q cards. I wouldn't waste time watching this movie at all. Mary friend acting was horrible and corny. I will never watch this movie again. At the end when the friend was talking her lips didn't even match or sound like her. This movie is a joke the blood looked so fake and the camera quality was garbage. DEFINITELY WASNT WORTH WATCHING ON SO MANY LEVELS. It's definitely a no for me.

I watched this in a free channel and I want my money back

The acting is atrocious to say the least. There's still 20 minutes left and yes, I could turn it off, but dang it! I've already invested over an hour on this hot dog water. I'm not frightened, I couldn't care less about these people, the twist came limping out of nowhere, the plot makes zero sense, no one has chemistry - I just don't have enough words to convey how bad this movie is. The writing is horrible, the villain speech at the end is voiced by American voice actors for anime (iykyk) and it's reminiscent of a 60s Batman exposition piece. If I wasn't so angry I'd laugh. Dear reader, please learn from my mistake and avoid this. It's not "so bad it's good"... It's just so so... SO VERY BAD.

Low budget Get Out Knock Off
Advocate129 December 2023
I wasn't sure what this movie was until about the third quarter point and that's when it hit me; the writer and producer of this film wanted to create something in the Get Out Genre, it's just that they don't have the creativity or the mind of Mr. Jordan Peele. Keep trying. Maybe one day you'll get there. The acting is mid level. The boy is the best part of the movie. If you have time to waste or if you are a fan of one of the main characters, you should watch this film. Otherwise, you may be better off watching thursday night football or something else. Don't say i didn't try to warn you. Watch at your own risk.

AMAZING, MUST WATCH
eleniyord18 February 2024
I've just emerged from a rollercoaster of terror, courtesy of the spine-tingling masterpiece, "The Folks." Let me start by admitting that my impatience got the better of me, and I couldn't resist diving into the film at the 17th-minute mark, eager to witness the rumored jaw-dropping ending. Little did I know that from that moment onwards, I would be gripped by a relentless fear that refused to let go until the closing credits.

First and foremost, let's talk about the actors. They weren't just good; they were downright phenomenal. From the seasoned veterans to the fresh faces, each performance was so convincing that I found myself questioning whether they were truly acting or genuinely terrified. What's more, the film's commitment to nationality diversity deserves a round of applause, adding depth and richness to the character dynamics.

Now, let's address the delightful surprise that was the child actor. With a mix of innocence and bewilderment, they brought a unique charm to the screen. There's something oddly amusing about watching a child navigate through the horrors of the unknown with a pleasantly confused expression, almost as if they stumbled onto a set they weren't entirely sure they belonged to.

But enough about the lighter moments; let's delve into the heart of the matter-the scares. Oh boy, did "The Folks" deliver in this department. From subtle, hair-raising whispers to full-blown heart-stopping sequences, the movie had me clutching at the edge of my seat, my heart pounding in my chest with each passing minute. And just when I thought I had seen it all, the climax hit me like a freight train, leaving me breathless and utterly terrified.

In conclusion, "The Folks" is a must-watch for any horror aficionado craving a truly spine-chilling experience. With its stellar performances, diverse cast, and relentless scares, it's a cinematic journey that will linger in your mind long after the lights come back on. Just remember to brace yourself before hitting play-you're in for one hell of a ride.

Unpredictable, captivating - worth a watch.
Solidn16 April 2024
Background; die hard horror fan, seen over 300 horror titles last year - this is a psychological thriller that gets tossed into the horror genre.

The premise seems pretty basic but the unfolding of events in this film did surprise me.

The film was captivating enough to make me want to keep watching and see what happens next. Being captivating alone makes a film worth the watch imo.

The acting was so-so, generally positive; I didn't spot any scenes that were over that top dramatic or corny that you just look at and say "that's unrealistic".

Recommend if you like the thriller genre and are looking for something fresh that's an easy short watch.
