Imaginary, the latest team-up between Blumhouse and director Jeff Wadlow – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island – reached theatres on March 8th, and it hasn’t set the box office on fire during its tow and a half week theatrical run, pulling in just under $29 million at the global box office. Now Lionsgate has given the film a PVOD (that’s Premium Video on Demand) and Pest (that’s Premium Electronic Sell-Through) release, so maybe more genre fans will check it out now that it’s available to watch in the comfort of our own homes.

We’re just one month away from the March 8th theatrical release date of the horror film Imaginary, the latest team-up between Blumhouse and director Jeff Wadlow – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island. With that date swiftly approaching, a new trailer for Imaginary has arrived online, and you can check it out in the embed above.
The film sees DeWanda Wise of Jurassic World: Dominion taking on the role of Jessica, who moves back into her childhood home with her family, and her youngest stepdaughter Alice develops an eerie attachment to a stuffed bear named Chauncey. Alice starts playing games with Chauncey that become increasingly sinister. As Alice’s behavior becomes more concerning, Jessica intervenes, only to realize Chauncey is much more than the stuffed toy bear she believes him to be.
Wadlow wrote the screenplay for Imaginary with Greg Erb and Jason Oremland.

Not only do Blumhouse productions tend to have such low budgets that it’s difficult for them to fail, but the company also makes so much content that you never go too long without seeing a new release from them. So if one disappoints, they have another chance to impress soon after. The Exorcist: Believer wasn’t well-received? That’s okay, Five Nights at Freddy’s is right around the corner. Night Swim didn’t live up to the success they had with M3GAN last year? Well, let’s see how Imaginary does on March 8th. With the release of Imaginary just one month away, a new poster for the film has arrived online and can be seen at the bottom of this article.
Imaginary is the latest team-up between Blumhouse and director Jeff Wadlow – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island.

Earlier this year, we heard that director Jeff Wadlow and Blumhouse Productions – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island – were teaming up for a new horror project called Imaginary, with Lionsgate having acquired the worldwide rights to the film. A February 2024 release date had been announced for the project… but if you saw the Blumhouse production Five Nights at Freddy’s in the theatre over the weekend, chances are that you saw a trailer for Imaginary play before it. We don’t have the trailer to share here just yet, but we can report that Imaginary‘s release date has shifted back to March 8, 2024.

A few months ago, we heard that director Jeff Wadlow and Blumhouse Productions – who had previously collaborated on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island – were teaming up for a new horror project called Imaginary, and Lionsgate has acquired the worldwide rights to the film. Now Lionsgate has announced that they will be giving Imaginary a theatrical release on February 2, 2024.
Wadlow has written the screenplay for Imaginary with Greg Erb, Jason Oremland, and Bryce McGuire, crafting a story that sounds like a horror take on the 1991 comedy Drop Dead Fred: A young woman returns to her childhood home only to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and very unhappy she left.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are co-financing the project. Lionsgate and Blumhouse previously worked together on the 2012 release Sinister. Wadlow is producing the film alongside Blumhouse founder Jason Blum.

After working together on the 2018 film Truth or Dare and the 2020 horror version of Fantasy Island, director Jeff Wadlow and Blumhouse Productions are now collaborating on another horror project called Imaginary. Deadline reports that Lionsgate has acquired the worldwide rights to the film.
Wadlow has written the screenplay for Imaginary with Greg Erb, Jason Oremland, and Bryce McGuire, crafting the following story: A young woman returns to her childhood home only to discover that the imaginary friend she left behind is very real and very unhappy she left.
So it sounds sort of like a horrific take on the 1991 comedy Drop Dead Fred.
Lionsgate and Blumhouse are hoping to get Imaginary into production in the spring, so Wadlow is currently working to assemble the cast for the film. Lionsgate and Blumhouse are co-financing the project, with Lionsgate planning to present Imaginary to potential buyers at the European Film Market later this month.

“Stranger Things” breakout Priah Ferguson is sticking to the spooky (and spunky) theme, signing on to star opposite Marlon Wayans in his upcoming Halloween adventure-comedy movie for Netflix.
Ferguson stars in the yet-to-be-titled movie as a teenage girl who accidentally unleashes an ancient and mischievous spirit on Halloween, causing decorations to come alive and wreak havoc. In order to save the town, she must team up with the last person she’d want to — her skeptical father (Wayans).
Ferguson is best known for playing Erica Sinclair on Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” joining the show in its second season, with Season 4 set to premiere in 2022. Ferguson received a SAG award nomination in 2020 for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama. Wherever Adam Sandler goes, Kevin James can usually be found following close behind, with the duo becoming virtually inseparable since the latter made his feature film debut in the pivotal role of Factory Worker in 2004’s 50 First Dates. Since then, the pair have co-starred in a further ten movies from I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry to Hubie Halloween, while James has headlined Happy Madison vehicles Zookeper and Here Comes the Boom.
After playing a series of supporting parts, it was inevitably Sandler and Happy Madison that elevated the former King of Queens star to leading man status for the first time when he portrayed the title character in 2009’s Paul Blart: Mall Cop. Despite receiving reviews that could be described as tepid at best, the comedy was a massive hit at the box office and earned over $180 million on a budget of just $26 million, proving that there...

Adam Sandler and Kevin James seem to be joined at the hip, and you rarely see one of them without the other following close behind. Sandler gave James his first role in a live-action movie when the latter was handed the glamorous part of Factory Worker in 2004’s 50 First Dates, back when he was still best known as the star of sitcom The King of Queens, and they’ve been inseparable ever since.
Over the last fifteen years, Sandler and James have co-starred in the three entries in the Hotel Transylvania franchise, two Grown Ups movies, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Zookeeper, Pixels and Sandy Wexler, while James showed up as himself for an uncredited cameo in You Don’t Mess with the Zohan.

“Truth or Dare” director Jeff Wadlow has come on board to helm “Danger Girl,” an action-adventure for Constantin Film.
Wadlow, who is in production on Sony’s “Fantasy Island” movie, will also perform rewrites on the script. Umair Aleem wrote the initial drafts, based on the female-team comic book series “Danger Girl,” created by J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell. Shooting is expected to begin next year.
“Danger Girl,” launched in 1988 and still being published with new issues by Idw, follows the adventures of Abbey Chase, who is reluctantly recruited into an all-female secret spy organization. Chase is then paired with operatives Sydney Savage, Natalia Kasstle and “Silicon Val” to locate a series of objects with destructive power and keep them out of the hands of the Hammer Syndicate.
Producers describe Abbey Chase as one of the most iconic female comic book characters along with Captain Marvel, Black Widow, and Wonder Woman.

Mr. Roarke is back, played by Michael Peña, ready to host guests in a Fantasy Island reboot, which is actually a horror movie!
"De plane! de plane!," alerted Hervé Villechaize's Tattoo to Ricardo Montalbán’s Mr. Roarke before hitting the tarmac to greet weekly crafts filled with wealthy life fetishists on ABC’s classic life-affirming adventure television series, Fantasy Island; words that will undoubtedly be shouted once again by another actor – this time to star Michael Peña – in the 2020 movie reboot of said series from the horror auteurs at Blumhouse.
Truth or Dare director Jeff Wadlow helms the film. Ryan Turek will oversee for Blumhouse and Matt Milam will oversee for Sony. Wadlow, who also directed the features Cry Wolf, Never Back Down, True Memoirs of an International Assassin, and Kick Ass 2, is also writing alongside Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs. The film is being distributed by Sony Pictures.

The Leftovers alum Regina King is re-teaming with series’ creator Damon Lindelof for Watchmen, his high-profile follow-up drama pilot at HBO. King has been cast along with Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Adelaide Clemens and Andrew Howard in the pilot. It is not specified if all of the actors will be series regulars, I hear at least one may be recurring.
Written by Lindelof based on Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ iconic limited comic series, Watchmen is considered a dark satirical and dystopian take on the superhero genre. Set in an alternate history where “superheroes” are treated as outlaws, Watchmen embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel while attempting to break new ground of its own.
Details of the cast’s roles are being kept under wraps though we have some ideas. King is believed to be playing Angela Abar, while Gossett Jr. likely is Old Man.

Sandy Wexler is the latest Netflix original film from actor Adam Sandler and tells the story of the titular character: a talent manager working in Los Angeles in the 1990s who diligently represents a group of eccentric clients on the fringes of show business. His single-minded devotion is put to the test when he falls in love with his newest client, Courtney Clarke (Jennifer Hudson), a tremendously talented singer who he discovers at an amusement park.
The ‘90s was the decade of Bill Clinton, the Macarena, dial-up internet… and Sandy Wexler. One thing is for sure – Hollywood wasn’t ready for a talent manager like him.
Also starring Kevin James (True Memoirs of An International Assassin), Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Lamorne Morris (New Girl), Nick Swardson (The Do-Over), Rob Schneider, Jane Seymour, Carl Weathers and Arsenio Hall; Sandy Wexler is directed by Steve Brill (The Do-Over) from a script by Sandler himself.

Sandy Wexler is the latest Netflix project from Adam Sandler. Here's the trailer...
By our maths, Adam Sandler now has one more film to go until he’s completed his deal with Netflix for four feature films. So far, we’ve had The Ridiculous Six (not very good) and The Do-Over (not very good). And for his third movie, Sandler has put together Sandy Wexler.
See related Games nobody talks about anymore: Renegade
He’s not made this one alone. He’s reunited with The Do-Over director Steven Brill for a start, and he’s co-written the screenplay with Paul Sado and Dan Bulla. In terms of casting,, you’ll find Jennifer Hudson, Rob Schneider, Kevin James, Arsenio Hall Terry Crews and Lamorne Morris picking up paycheques on this one.
The film will land on Netflix in April, and we’ve got a trailer and a synopsis.

The Los Angeles and New York-based production company, Nickel City Pictures has brought on the former PalmStar Media executive as partner and president of production.
Fasano will oversee the film and television production slate, which includes Naja, the French graphic novel adaptation that Nickel City is producing with Thunder Road Pictures and Entertainment 360. Cedric Nicolas-Troyan will direct.
The hire comes as Nickel City co-founders and former PalmStar executives Ankur Rungta and Vishal Rungta announced they have secured investment from Olive Tree Capital, the investment arm of the family office of Hamza Talhouni.
Olive Tree will in certain cases co-finance development alongside the company’s existing development partner, Telepool GmbH, and the deal offers access to a network of family offices and high net worth investors.
Fasano served as president of production at PalmStar Media, where he was involved in such titles as American Ultra, The Whole Truth and True Memoirs Of An International Assassin.

Here comes the Kevin James digital boom. Friday’s release of James’ latest film, Netflix’s “True Memoirs of an International Assassin,” marks a significant milestone in the 51-year-old actor’s career. After starring in more than half a dozen studio movies for Columbia Pictures — including two “Paul Blart: Mall Cop” films that together grossed nearly $300 million worldwide — James’ signature brand of family-friendly comedy has landed at Netflix, where 86 million subscribers will be able to watch “True Memoirs” from the comfort of their own homes.

Wait – an original Netflix comedy that doesn’t star Adam Sandler? It’s real! True Memoirs Of An International Assassin only mines from Sandler’s comedian crew for lead actor Kevin James, with no cameos in sight. I mean, you try pitching a movie as “Spy, but starring a guy!” without James’ name immediately thrown into the mix. That’s what you’re getting here. A Venezuelan spy thriller about some random Joe obsessed with tactical espionage training, who finds out that being a secret agent is even harder than it looks. It’s a fish-out-of-water comedy with deadly consequences – and not a whole lot of substance.
James stars as Sam Larson, a hopeful writer whose first book – Memoirs Of An International Assassin – gets marketed as non-fiction by an ambitious publicist (played by Kelen Coleman). Book sales take off, which brings a lot of attention to Sam. He gets as...

Independent and documentary films are increasingly being consumed on subscription streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, or being purchased through Video on Demand (VOD) services like iTunes. This has opened the door for an increasing number of festival filmmakers choosing the path of self distribution. The problem is there are two significant barriers that have developed to filmmakers getting on these platforms.
One barrier is that as these retailers continue to grow, individual filmmakers are not able to make a direct deals with these companies.
“The cost benefit for say a company like iTunes of doing a direct deal has diminished dramatically,” said Erik Anderson, Founder of Quiver. “It takes time, it takes legal and administrative resources, just getting on the phone and having conversations is time consuming.”
According to Anderson, even for smaller distributors with a handful of titles it’s not worth it for a giant like iTunes...

True Memoirs Of An International Assassin is cleverer than the average Kevin James comedy, though its better gags are unlikely to inspire more than a snicker. As always, James, the sitcom star who made the jump to movies under the aegis of Adam Sandler, plays a sad sack with dreams above his station. His character, Sam Larson, is a mid-level office drone who escapes the drudgery of his day-to-day existence by writing pulpy spy novels, plotted with the help of his pool-hall buddy Amos (Ron Rifkin), a retiree who claims to have once worked a desk job at Mossad. Rejected by literary agents, Sam’s latest manuscript is picked up by a low-rent e-publisher, who retitles the book True Memoirs Of An International Assassin and markets it as nonfiction. Soon, Sam finds himself kidnapped by El Toro (Andy Garcia), a revolutionary who wants him to assassinate the president of Venezuela...

James + Semaj is a column where James Franco talks to his reverse self, Semaj, about new films. Rather than a conventional review, it is place where James and Semaj can muse about ideas that the films provoke. James loves going to the movies and talking about them. But a one-sided take on a movie, in print, might be misconstrued as a review. As someone in the industry it could be detrimental to James’s career if he were to review his peers, because unlike the book industry—where writers review other writer’s books—the film industry is highly collaborative, and a bad review of a peer could create problems. So, assume that James (and Semaj) love all these films. What they’re interested in talking about is all the ways the films inspire them, and make them think. James is me, and Semaj is the other side of me.

Holiday season movies are a time-honored tradition, but African American holiday season films exist in a genre of their own. From Malcolm Lee’s “The Best Man Holiday” to Preston A. Whitmore II’s “This Christmas,” the nuances of black life at the proverbial “most wonderful time of the year” have enraptured audiences for years. David E. Talbert’s latest entry “Almost Christmas” just might be the most satisfying entry in this genre to date.
Led by the ever-reliable Danny Glover as heartbroken family patriarch Walter Meyers, “Almost Christmas” benefits from a robust cast in tune with the material. Mo’Nique stars as Walter’s hilarious and outspoken sister-in-law May. Strong supporting work comes from Gabrielle Union, Kimberly Elise, Romany Malco, Nicole Ari Parker, J.B. Smoove, Omar Epps and Jessie T. Usher.

“True Memoirs of an International Assassin” opens with an unusual degree of promise for a feature-length Netflix comedy, as trained killer Sam Larson (Kevin James!) infiltrates a dockside shipping yard in broad daylight and goes full “Metal Gear Solid” on a group of henchmen. And you know what? The Artist Formerly Known as The King of Queens pulls it off. Nobody is going to mistake James for Tony Jaa, but he clearly put some practice into becoming a remotely believable ass-kicker, and the violence is shot in such a distant and sterile way that the comedian’s movements look all the more striking. And then James gets shot in the chest with a rocket launcher and explodes in a plume of digital blood. The world, it turns out, is not ready for a relatively straight-faced action-comedy in which a heavyset white dude can play a lethal mercenary who struggles with his body image.

If you’ve already binge-watched the latest season of “Black Mirror,” then you’re already familiar with the Uber-like premise of “Nosedive”: Everybody rates everyone they interact with on a scale from one to five, and anything under four stars is seen as a failure. (This is also how an alarming number of critics grade things, but I digress.) A new tie-in website allows you to do just that, because social media hasn’t already made our interpersonal relationships strained enough.

Sam Larson has a very particular set of skills; skills that make him a nightmare to anyone that dares trifle with him. At least, that’s what the masthead of True Memoirs of an International Assassin would have you believe.
You see, in Netflix’s latest original project, that’s the debut work of non-fiction published by Kevin James’ mild-mannered author. The only problem is that the novel becomes an overnight success after it’s mistaken as a true-life biopic, leaving James’ protagonist with little choice but to put the ‘true’ in True Memoirs of an International Assassin. Hailing from director Jeff Wadlow, the bonkers actioner has today unveiled its first clip ahead of a planned premiere on November 11. In it, we see Sam Larson fumble his way through a tense standoff – thanks to the help of Zulay Henao’s actual contract killer – and if you’re a fan of James’ brand of oafish comedy,...
