He's Just Not Happy
Hitchcoc22 February 2018
Doc has been asked to start again as a surgeon in London. He is still dealing with the blood issue, but there are positive signs. He is to go to London to be with Edith when she gives her big speech to the OBGYN community. She has designs on him and books a single room, coming supplied with all her feminine stuff. She is a selfish, harsh woman, but she is taken with him. Meanwhile, Aunt Joan, who is strapped for money, decides to turn her farmhouse into a B&B. Her first customer is a grizzled farmer from an adjacent farm. He is losing his property and is depressed. He is also quite ill. Martin is continually having to attend emergencies, including a sting from a jellyfish, shortly after Martin fires hers. Louisa continues to try to figure out what is right for her. It's obvious that the Doc cares about the impending birth, but neither can outrun their stubbornness. While at the hotel where Edith is staying, the Doc confronts his demons. The final episode of the fourth season should be quite revealing.

Getting ready to leave....
planktonrules27 April 2015
This episode is about the pending departure of Dr. Martin Ellingham from the crappy town in which he lives and his move back to London. Because of this a lot of issues arise. First, Pauline is in a snit because she received only a satisfactory recommendation from her. She also is upset because he was remiss in telling her as well as his seeming indifference to her. Considering how awful a receptionist she's been at times, I could certainly sympathize with the Doc! Second, folks in the town are dealing with the loss by saying how much they hated him and how much better they'll be without him. A fun town, huh, that Portwenn?! Additionally, Joan has decided to run a B&B to make ends meet--and her first customer is a disgusting git! In the midst of all this, Ellingham is being pressured by Dr. Montgomery to get his butt to London ASAP for a big conference and a chance to shmooze with some big-wigs.

This is a good episode of the series. It's not a great one but it certainly is enjoyable and gets to the heart of the Doctor's ambivalence towards leaving the hellish town of Portwenn....though exactly why is hard to fathom.
