A C137 episode
alexandrupanicaok20 September 2022
Most of viewers look for gun shooting laser blasting star wars whatever in rick and morty. All the infinite ricks, some are cooler than rick but no one is cooler than rick because he is the rickest rick just by being himself. This episode is the rickest rick, this is what's all about. Few other episodes/shows can say so much with so little. Seasons 4 and 5 felt like they were forced, had no essence and there was little hope for season 6. The first two episodes in season 6 were more than expected, but this 3rd one encapsulated the show's quintessence like very few others. Great job from the creators.

Update: Rewatching this after restarting the entire series still has the same effect. Made me laugh as hell and I stand by the first review. It is one of the best episodes for me and I'm glad I saw it the same the second time.

Hilarious but a bit predictable
ayonijaprithuvainya19 September 2022
The moment I saw may-be-a-clone Beth in season 4, I knew the events of this episode will eventually take place. Beth is too much of a narcissist, and Jerry too much of a perverted doormat, for this not to happen. But that does not stop it from being hilarious. It is the hallmark of great writing where even the most absurd plotlines actually make sense for the characters and world.

It has been a while since I laughed out loudly at a Rick & Morty episode. That changed today.

The mocking of "realism" in videogames is also on point. And there were quite few callbacks to beloved episodes of the past. This season keeps going strong.

It's supposed to make you feel that way...
carlosarturo-cine25 September 2022
I won't say much because I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll simply say this:

Those calling this a new "incest" episode, or calling Beth a weak character... you're missing the point. This is Rick and Morty, it's supposed to make you feel awkward. (Drunken grandpa kidnaps grandson to blow up the world with a neutrino bomb and then collapses, first episode, hello?) And Beth is at the core of Rick's dynamics, if you don't get that by now, you haven't understood the show's family relationships approach yet.

This is sci-fi's moral dilemmas at it's best: like Splice (2009, which I loved) or Predestination (2015, which I guess it's OK) the possible repercussions of these types of interactions are quite complicated, even "sick and twisted".

The writing here is superb, and like other users said, I literally laughed out loud with this episode: it's like I watched this episode half of the time with my mouth covered with my hand in dismay, and the other half just bursting in laughter.

For me, one of the best episodes. So much character development, so much depth here and yet so hilariously (and awkwardly) fun.

Amazing episode
mapperofficialheh19 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
That was unexpectedly hillarious. Some people might say this is another incest baby episode, I really don't care. It's one of the funniest episodes of this show I have ever watched. Beths were really cute and I love how it all worked out with Jerry while Morty, Summer and Rick had a breakdown at the dinner table. Also props to the writers for acknowledging stuff like the broken portal travel, characters not aging and of course everyone's favourite Naruto... Rick and Morty is really back to it's prime this season while also trying something new. Love it so far, 10/10 ...........................

This Episode is Crazy. And beyond strange in the shows cannon.
ia-8207019 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Rick and Morty is letting its characters simmer this season. For once everyone has to deal with eachother, without walking out on their differences. This episode is taking that concept too far. But it works very well. Beth, for the most part feels very 3 dimensional. As very few characters are there to reflect off of her. Or for simpler purposes influence her character, to contradict her decisions. Apparently only another Beth is able to do that. Clone Beth. What proceeds in this episode, while everyone is preoccupied is quite shocking. It's a Romantic episode, that's on a human level. Something the show hasn't quite gone into before. Mostly the tenderness between two people. Beth is facing something new and deep that's inside her. And it takes her own self to realize it. The episode plays it also for comedic effect. While it is a drastic change for her character. For the next episodes its possible it will have no bearing on her as a character. But with Season 6 taking its time to sit on the Family more than it ever has, anything is possible. It's a simple little Beth story that's part sexual awakening, exploitave kinkiness with just the right amount of tongue and cheek. But in reality maybe it's not meant to mean anything big, but just an inside joke to the Smith family. Whatever the case it's cannon.

A fresh breakthrew for this show
tomy-0319819 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Bethic Twinstinct shows that the creators behind Rick and Morty, are a lot more better at grasping the perfect balance between canonical story arc and one-off fun idea.

Writing of the charater development of Beth(s) and Jerry is exceptional and great for the grand story arc. And the reactions from other Smiths provide even better comedic effect. Which also show character developements in their own arc, e.g. How Rick secretly care and manipulate both Beth and lines about his own 'ice cream experience'.

It doesn't have high concept sci-fi or major twisting plot reveal. But eqisode like this truly test the creators and push the show further.

Uhh weird!
Trey_Trebuchet27 October 2022
This is weird for me even by standard Rick and Morty standards. I love how weirded out absolutely everyone is but Rick himself. Like he's clearly barked up that tree before...

I actually thought this was pretty great! I don't understand the haters. It seems like the sperm episode really divided the viewers didn't it? If you were growing tired of the show before then, maybe you're totally done now? Even the really good episodes following that one have had mixed reviews and I don't get it!

This was by no means a favorite of mine, but I do think it worked as a good character study for Beth, in an interesting and very believable way. I further cements who Beth and Jerry are to each other and as people.

Rick and Morty and Summer being gamers all of a sudden felt weird too, but I suppose they are all stuck together without that portal gun. The gamer stuff WAS very funny. This whole episode was hilarious, even with some jokes that didn't land.

I've enjoyed this season so far. Hopefully it stays on course from here on out.

Real Game Console!
masoud_ahmadi19 September 2022
Enjoyable fun awkward R&M episode without crazy actions and killing and portal guns and Evil/Prime Morty/Rick.

I really missed this vibe from the first few seasons when everything started slowly and smoothly from the house, it had been a long time.

In recent episodes and seasons, there were lots of actions and violence like Morty going crazy killing everyone in Planetina episode, death crystal episode or his mortal fight with the portal guy in last season; or Summer doing a die-hard or killing a bunch of monsters in the first two episodes of this season; or Beths killing some creators/people. I mean, we had enough of every one of the family being badass and killing actions, at least for me.

Therefore, this episode completely fits with its dark jokes; I know, it might get creepy and tbh, it gets; but, isn't that the point?

Another thing that I enjoyed in this episode was the part about the real game that they were playing. The consol looked cool and with the "real" game, we were expecting something crazy like interdimensional cable TV or Roy game, that they will be sucked into the game or trapped in the game, but the concept of a "real" game was a meta for the real life, when every real thing is boring.

One of the most wacky, "make you think" episodes yet.
wdojo11 October 2022
I have often wondered what it would be like to meet another version of my self, when I thought about it, I realized, that it couldn't be another version of me, unless there was no way of knowing which was the original version, otherwise it wouldn't be me. I don't want to spoil anything, so I will say this, a clone cannot think as another person does unless they have had the same experiences, a big philosophical discussion is avoided by not addressing this issue, but to not address it, the original version couldn't be known. The R&M creators are intelligent enough to understand this, where most show creators are not. The only other person I can think of that was able to think about the world, and manifest it into a television show was Matt Groening. And he actually addressed this "topic" too in Futurama, and it was perhaps the best episodes in all of Futurama.

The point is that this episode, as are many of the episodes, is an episode for the typical atypical Millennial nerd who is now in her/his 30's and still thinks as deeply about the universe as they did while in highschool. It's not an episode for people who enjoy slap stick comedy, or "fictitious" reality tv, it is an episode for those who appreciate philosophical discussion, and thinking about how the universe works.

Without a doubt this episode is a 10.

Weakest episode of the season so far
natural419 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Seriously. The Rick and Morty writers need to stop with this incest theme, this episode was partly gross and not enjoable.

I think what makes the episode a turn-off for me is that it almost completely lacks Rick and Morty and solely focuses on Beths. If you are fan of Beth and Space Beth this is the episode for you, if you like classic Rick and Morty adventures, you can maybe consider skipping this one. This episode does not have a clever scifi plot like almost every other episode has and solely focuses on Beths character development.

On positive the positive side, this episode has its moments, callbacks to older episodes are nice and some bits got me laughing. I just didn't find the plot enjoyable at all. It still nowhere near as bad as the sperm episode was so I'll give it a six out of ten. Definitely the weakest episode of season six so far.

Unwarranted outrage
listadx20 June 2023
It's baffling why this episode received a surge of criticism from viewers. Perhaps the unusual storyline or the intense self-reflective nature of the plot may have been off-putting to some. Yet, true "Rick and Morty" fans will recognize that the series thrives on this disruptive approach.

In the ever-expansive multiverse of "Rick and Morty", creators Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland have been notorious for shattering boundaries, merging humor with raw, introspective human experiences.

Despite the unusual plotline, true "Rick and Morty" fans are no strangers to such disruptive narratives. This episode merely strengthens the series' commitment to testing the boundaries of storytelling. The dialogue is cleverly infused with quintessential "Rick and Morty" humor, ensuring the storyline doesn't become too heavy or self-indulgent.

In my perspective, the hate is misplaced. The episode is innovative, probing deeper into Beth's character. It's bold, it's daring, and despite the criticism, I dare to say that 'Bethic Twinstinct' ranks among the best "Rick and Morty" episodes.

This was weird in a...weird way
ericstevenson21 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode features Beth having an affair with Space Beth. It takes place over Thanksgiving, although it seems way too early for that. It features the characters playing realistic games. I liked that, because the episode did seem more realistic to me. It was more Slice Of Life than the other ones, but what I really didn't care for was the resolution. It just seemed way too rushed.

I don't want this show to get too gross like in some episodes. It still had some great jokes. Beth in this episode reminded me of Francine from "American Dad!". It was just how she was a blonde wife who was more sexualized. Hmm, I've never seen this character limit thing here before. It's always nice to see something new! ***

Simple and effective.
jackhaydenson20 September 2022
I'm not a huge fan of Rick and Morty, especially since Harmon's creative purge, but this episode is a nice return to form, akin to season 1/2. A simple, more grounded and character centric take on a fantastical concept, and it's executed with several genuinely hilarious jokes. Surprisingly, there were no utterly cringe-inducing dud gags, of which the newer seasons have had plenty by comparison. Nor was the plot concerned with overly contrived, convoluted and redundant story beats. Rick also acts like a normal person, like he was in previous seasons, which is crucial, as "god-mode infallible le epic" Rick is not funny or interesting in my opinion.

Plus the after credit scene is easily the best of the entire series.

The creators can't take a hint
hamsterreyz20 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The already create 2 episodes with incest end those are the worst episodes of the show why did they thought this would be an exception. Even though it was the best one. At first I thought it would be a bottle episode and because of interdimensional cable and Morty's mind-blowers I was excited af since those are two of my favourite but it wasn't. I liked that they they showed how it effects the rest of the family. Everyone react with their own way that it fits their personality but I don't like the reaction of Jerry. He stood up for himself and decided to leave this time unlike in season three where he was kicked out but then they decide to do a threesome. Also I like the scene there Morty put to much salt on his food and they Rick told him to eat it. Pretty much a 7/10.

Kind of traumatic and insightful
jackedxupp20 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was already in an awful mood when i decided to watch this then when the selfcest theme hinted itself and kicked in, I thought I'd despise this episode but it was really something else. The theme of trauma summer and morty dealt with became too familiar with having to have dealt with my mother's affair which I knew about before my father did at a very young age. It became insightful in a way. To remind myself of the things I suppressed, to reminisce about the distractions that I dwell into, into gaming, into a virtual world, to actually make sense of it, why I did that to begin with was to be distracted enough from the things I knew. The other theme of betrayal became insightful aswell. The way Jerry was treated, the way he reacted and all the circumstances that did arise, it was all too humane. Its something to relate to, something to learn from through reflecting to not end up like a cuck like him. The humane part of it is the element that has been missing from previous episodes. It's here and there in doses, just not present throughout the episodes like it was in earlier seasons. I'd understand why people might not like this episode though, it could be too much or too bland for some. Either way it felt necessary to me somehow.

Someone in the writing staff REALLY likes incest
seige-hound23 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Is having an affair with your clone the same as incest? I don't know but it's close enough that quite a few people found the premise of this episode uncomfortable. I personally didn't mind the story, it was goofy and silly and inconsequential to the rest of the series.

I really like the addition of Space-Beth as a recurring character in the show, I thought she was going to be more of a one-off character when she was first introduced but the way that the writers continue to find uses for her is cool, even if this particular episode is one of the more controversial ones.

I think the show is at its best when it explores these weird sci-fi concepts, as long as it doesn't go too overboard with it like the sperm episode last season. This episode is fun, and the way it ended was the best part.

Not a bad episode
garabedian12321 September 2022
Even though it was predictable. I just dont get the thanksgiving reference? Did they mean to play this during thanksgiving? Sometimes Rick and Morty intentionally switch episodes around because they feel this one is stronger than the rest. They did it last season too.

The video game sections was intially funny but the same joke just goes on for too long.

So this episode certainly made me feel a bit weird. Like having threesomes is one thing..but falling in love with yourself was done in futurama and is clear is only meant for the sickest and weirdest people.

So jerry kissing himself in the end credits...meant...what exactly? It was just a peck like they knew what it was but we do not. Being jerry im surprised they dont suck each other off.

Beth is the warmest colour
southdavid21 September 2022
Season six has been solid if perhaps unspectacular so far for me, and this third episode was probably the best of the run so far, but still away beneath the quality the show has hit in it's prime.

It's Thanksgiving and Space Beth (Sarah Chalke) is visiting. She and Beth (Sarah Chalke) begin an inevitable, narcissistic love affair which Summer (Spencer Grammer) and Morty (Justin Roiland) quickly become aware of. They try to mentally distract themselves by playing Morty's new games console, which offers unprecedented levels of realism.

A rare episode based almost entirely at the house, the structure of the show is slightly odd too with the traditional "A" and "B" format swapped for essentially one story, with the games console business feeding back into it. So, it's not really feeding the wider mythology, or taking us on an extraordinary adventure, or (thankfully) another movie parody - it's a character story, dealing perhaps with why this Beth chooses to stay with the family. It's funnier than the previous couple too, most of which comes from the games console storyline and what the oft repeated boast when a new console comes out "heightening the realism" could actually mean.

Again, good rather than truly great.

Funniest Episode of the Season So Far But...
MamadNobari9719 September 2022
...Where is the main story stuff? We've had this formula of 8 episodes of random plots storylines and maybe 1 or if we're lucky the 2 final episodes dedicated to the overarching story of the whole show, but isn't it time that after 6 bloody seasons, we finally get a season with more episodes about the actual story I'm sure most of the people still watching care about? Not even a post-credit scene for it?

This week's post-credit scene was really funny and I ain't mad at it at all. But at least mention the main storyline once in a while, because there are only 7 episodes left and I'm afraid we're not gonna get Rick Prime stuff until like maybe episode 8 or 7.

Not to mention the plot of this episode wasn't that big enough to warrant an entire episode dedicated to it and it could've been plot A of this episode and they could've added another storyline for plot B. As funny as this episode was, it really needed another plot line.

I guess most episodes of the show have only one plot, but their plot actually does need the whole episode dedicated to it or even sometimes more episodes. But this episode's was so simple that the first 10 minutes was enough for it and they could've done something else next to it. Thought I still think the final thanksgiving table scene was the funniest scene of the season so far.

Again, I have no problem with episodes having their own contained plot lines that won't come back later, but it's been 6 seasons, maybe it's time we see the actual main story once in a while every couple of episodes?

I feel like writers shoot themselves in the foot by introducing a main overarching plot and they can't really go back to only making "Adventures of Rick and Morty", so now they're reluctant to give us an actual storyline that covers the whole season instead of having an anthology season, as we saw them with season 5 saying "haha you dumb for wanting the main story, have these mediocre episodes with plots no one cares about".

What Happened To This Show?
MogwaiMovieReviews19 September 2022
Seriously: what the hell HAPPENED to this show? THERE ARE NO LAUGHS - AT ALL - ANY MORE. The characters don't act like themselves and are no longer likeable. Rick is now just a crotchety old man with some technology around him all the time that magically - or rather, boringly and predictably - solves every problem. Mort is... well... nothing, really. The focus is now all placed on Summer and Beth, who aren't strong-enough or funny-enough characters to place at the forefront of the story and still hold the attention. I guess I answered my own question.

The animation is still detailed and above competent, but there's no joy to be found in it, no great physical gags in the background or lovingly-rendered worldbuilding. It's all just a slick, functional-but-empty product now.

This USED to be the very greatest thing on TV - for several years in a row. And now it's just another generic animated series, the same as all the other ones I've seen but can't even remember the name of a month later, they're that bland and forgettable. It's so sad to see it fall to this.

Not bad but one of my my least favorite episodes and awkward
realeverythingben28 March 2024
It's just awkward and weird the whole time I don't how to explain it I just didn't really like it that much buts it was an ok episode overall but the whole awkwardness feeling during the parts with Beth and space Beth were just weird and it didn't really as much of anything to the main plot I know this was just a fun episode probably but I hate all the incest in Rick and morty it's not funny it's just disgusting, weird and just frankly straight up annoying I've been rewatching Rick and morty and I'm at this episode probably my least favorite so far I will see maybe some of season 7 will be worse.

Rick and Morty, I thought we were done with this
harikerr20 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I don't mind a bit of gross out humour here and there and of course humour is subjective but this week's episode has been the most uncomfortable episode since the incest baby. Of course, what I'm grossed out by in this episode is the self-cest with Beth and Space-Beth. I'm starting to get the idea that the writers of this show have some sort of fetish for this kind of thing. Like I said I'm all for gross out humour but that's in small doses, I get that it's supposed to be gross but I want to actually watch and enjoy Rick and Morty, not have to deal with one of these episodes every season at this point. There were quite a few funny jokes dispersed across the episode which I enjoyed. The game console subplot was weak because for some reason the writers seemed to have their focus on the self-cest plot. If I had to give the self-cest part any points it would be that it was well written enough and explain well enough too. To conclude I feel the episode was quite the weird one and not in a good way, the self-cest plot made me want to turn off what I was watching and I don't think that I really enjoyed this episode.

The Worst Episode of Rick and Morty
dylankoury19 September 2022
Definitely a controversial opinion but I really do think this may be the worst episode of Rick and Morty, and not because of the controversial plot choices, not in the same way I didn't like Rickpendence Spray.

This episode plays like a computer wrote an episode of Rick and Morty. The dialogue is awkward, the whole episode feels like uncanny valley. I don't know how to describe it, the entire watch something just felt... off. There was just something off putting about it.

Please tell me I'm not the only one who felt like this.

One star for the forest gag, and one star for Jerrys suitcase speech.

OK ! We get it you support the LGBTQ community, can you now please focus on the story of the show ? Why the jokes are just about sex ? Where is the crazy ideas ? I missed when the episodes was talking about the story or just an actual funny crazy adventure, now what happend ? I thought Jerry hated when his mother was in a relationship with someone else , now he doesn't have a problem when his own wife cheating on him with herself ? , The end credit sence just shows that Jerry sexual assaults other Jerry's , why ? What was the point ? Just making us hating Jerry at this point, this was the absolute worse episode I have ever witnessed.

Awful
Christopher_Reid24 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is even worse than its title. Let that sink in for a second.

Seriously, it was terrible. Boring, preachy, predictable - more of a drama than a comedy. Way too much of the Beths and not enough Rick and Morty - the two funniest characters with the funniest dynamic in the show.

It's full of references but no actual HUMOUR. Good comedy should come naturally out of the characters and situations, not be artificially shoved down our throats with random references to things as obscure as a Black Mirror episode or with constant dialogue but little or no action or emotion.

It was like someone with a big message to get out about lesbian love affairs tried to imitate the Rick and Morty style and formula, but just failed miserably. Nothing about the concept is remotely interesting or different. Romance and lust have been done a million times over. Loving a clone of yourself is a bit different - but it goes nowhere.

The characters psychoanalyse each-other endlessly, like the writers just finished Pscyhology 101 and now have to see everything that way and lecture the rest of us about it. There's some awkwardness which is mildly amusing. But it drags on. There's no insight, just the musings of someone who gets off to their own theories about relationship dynamics.

Even the freedom of brief scenes of random video games is barely tapped compared to all the random, silly stuff they could have come up with. There's no sci-fi edge. No throwing Morty into a crazy adventure. No fun. Just gross, boring melodrama and non-stop, unfunny, psychobabble.

Unless this is a one-off train wreck, RIP Rick and Morty.
