Bosch reviews a DD form 214 for Dominick Santanello who was killed in Vietnam, however service members killed in action are never issued a DD Form 214, but rather a Report of Casualty, known as a DD Form 1300. In addition, this form would not be at the sailors last military base in California, but rather at the military archives in St. Louis and a full unredacted copy would be protected under the Privacy Act. Finally, the form Bosch looks at has no service awards for the Vietnam War, of which Santanello would have received several, such as the Purple Heart and possibly also the Vietnam Military Merit Medal which was awarded by the Vietnamese to Americans killed in action in Vietnam.
