A recluse family terrorizes a group of friends in a secluded Southern location

My son asked me to watch this movie with him. We had no expectations on the quality of the movie. I have to say that I have seen worse. They did a lot with the minimal budget. Having some attractive women in the movie sure didn't hurt and helped us make it all the way to the end.

The acting was fine, the storyline could have used some work. I think the the main problem was that it was predictable and it didn't have the camera effects that we are used to with most movies now. I'm pretty easily amused, but I don't think I'll watch the movie again. Yet, I have to say that I don't hate myself for watching it.

Hopefully we'll see more from this team and these actors and they can show us what they are capable of.

You've seen it before

Why not just call it "The Director has seen Texas Chainsaw, Wrong Turn & House of 1000 Corpses". Nothing new here and all those other films did it better.

The acting was fine. Nobody stands out too much but they all do a decent enough job to keep you watching. There are a number of annoying camera angles that I guess are supposed to disguise the fact that they didn't have an effects budget, but it doesn't work. Also, they have one character doing all her scenes to a web cam and this really ends up being for absolutely no reason whatsoever, except possibly in an attempt to make the film seem more modern. In the end though, it's just rehash.

TEXAS CHAINSAW LIGHT
nogodnomasters31 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is a Texas Chainsaw type movie. The psycho family consists of people we have seen before: a brute with a partial "leather face", a man with long gray hair- Rob Zombie type, a man who is "touched" in the head, and grandpa. They live out by themselves and torture people who come on their property. The local high school is a typical movie high school: no fat or ugly kids. There is a cool group of kids that hang out together, Mike who dates one of the girls and is the brother to another. He is 22. He supplies the kids with drugs and alcohol. This group of kids go up to the lake and then go to the creepy house where the psycho family lives. The movie attempts to quickly build character with opening case files and a party which films the kids and asks them what they want to do after college. It didn't work too well.

It now becomes a question of who will live and die. What is different is that this house does have cell phone reception! Swagger music has been updated. Plenty of young girls in chains being tortured. Lots of fake blood. Not as good dialogue as a Zombie film. No sex or nudity. Acting was par.

Derivative

About a group of teens who collide with their town's dark past when a prank gone wrong makes them the target of a family of bloodthirsty killers.

Another reviewer said it seems like the creators of this movie saw "Wrong Turn", "Texas Chain Saw Massacre" and "House of 1000 Corpses". I agree. While the idea of murderous hillbillies has been used over and over again (more often than not in boring, repetitive ways), this seems even more derivative and uninspired. The one hillbilly is such an Otis / Bill Moseley wannabe that I cannot imagine it was an accident.

The strange thing is that this film seems (based on what I see online) to be the pilot for a series that never happened. This is a terrible idea for a series, so I am glad that never worked out. If you cannot even make 80 minutes work, I have no interest in seeing the same characters week after week.

I do not even want to waste brainpower writing anything more.

This is like the coffee from a vending machine

It's just a poor facsimile of the genuine thing. Tobe and Rob are safe, I think. And another thing that annoys me is that there isn't a high-school in the universe where these kids would hang out together.
