While I love midwives, this one often steps over the line....and, once again, this is a person WORSE than the Doctor!

'it's not really pain...it's a woman taking charge'--the midwife in this episode, Molly O'Brien

A new midwife has come into town and she is a real jerk-face. This is because she often crosses over the line--dispensing medical advice and acting as if doctors are the enemy. In reality, midwives serve a great purpose and a RESPONSIBLE one who doesn't hate doctors is a godsend. But this one manages to be more annoying and hateful than Doc Martin--and that takes a lot of work! Will her interfering and annoying personality place Louisa and the baby at risk?

Another plot in this one is about Bert and his source for meat at his restaurant. He thinks the lady providing him wild game is just a poacher--and he can live with that. But it turns out that she's using roadkill--and that might be a serious problem! Not surprisingly, she and her husband are showing some symptoms of an illness!

This is a very good and very typical episode. Well written and full of the fun soapy elements fans love most.

Poor Dr. Martin...
rozapeonija28 October 2022
With each episode, Louise becomes more and more unlikeable. It seems that her already egotistical, hysterical nature has been made even crazier by pregnancy, completely mentally unstable and irresponsible. She single-handedly, selfishly decides about the pregnancy, and does not even inform Dr. Martin for that. Then she appears on his doorstep, six months pregnant, but categorically refuses help and distances herself from the child's father. All her decisions have been made ignoring the needs of the child. Martin is the best doctor in the county, but she travels the world to see others. She walks for days without sleep, with inflamed kidneys, but does not seek help, pretending that she does not want to harm the child with medication. As if an intelligent, grown-up (not to say aging) woman, but so emotionally aggressive and irresponsible...

Dismissive of midwifery and offensive
finchop20 July 2020
I normally love doc Martin but this episode rankled It was offensive and patronising about women's choices in childbirth and towards women centred midwifery Grow up writers! Most midwives are highly skilled and this was an immature look at childbirth
