Loosely based on the book by Boris Vasilyev
ruganblue11 November 2009
Loosely based on the book by Boris Vasilyev, and with touches of the Russian film "The Dawns Here are Quiet" , the director does well to make it as Indian as possible....why the over melodramatic song towards the climax?? in otherwise a very good movie indeed!!!! The director does well in mixing the Russian film with his fight for the tribal and the rocket launch sequence......... Compared to Hindi movies , South Indian movies have always been several steps ahead in every aspect of film making.... The movie has both its plus and minus....Jayam Ravi fits perfect to the role....but why Roland Kickenger for such a minor role....any other well built man could have done justification for the role.....but he fits perfectly for the role...... probably a bit of too much heroism towards the end...

The movie was so good. The movie has a good story. Everybody acted very well in the movie. Songs and BGM in the movie were not so good. The movie has many unwanted scenes and the movie was boring in 2nd half.

Not Bad
ultragarrison_19932 May 2010
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is great and it definitely brings Kollywood to a whole new level. But however, this film is more of a blind copy of the 1980s Hollywood action movies such as Rambo and Commando. The first thing that i would like to comment about this movie is the acting. Jayam Ravi and the other Indians acted well in this movie. But the acting of the Caucasians are horrible. They are simply saying out the lines and they don't sound natural at all. The second flaw in this movie is the action sequence. The scene where Jayam Ravi fires an arrow towards a Caucasian terrorist is an obvious plagiarism of Rambo. Also, the scene where one of the NCC girls firing more than 4 rockets from the M202A1 FLASH-like rocket launcher is ridiculous. The scene where Dhuruvan holding a Gatling gun(that does not have any recoil) with ease is also amusing. The final fight scene between Anderson and Dhuruvan is more of a Matrix plus Rambo in one mixture. In conclusion, this movie is good but definitely not as good as 1980s Hollywood shoot em' up movies. It is good try though but it still needs a few improvements.

One of the best Indian movies ever taken
velocity-baba13 December 2009
The film is the exact scenario of what is happening in tribal India... Jayam Ravi fits perfect for the role..... Its has a very good story line.... Cinematography is good except for the graphics... In climax the fight between the two doesn't match and except the final fight and graphics everything is perfect..... in ending a senior officer getting the medal for the job done by lower official is the reflection of what is happening in India... A different ending to the film....The best film for Ravi till now and the spirit in the film is very high.....People can learn a good lesson from it.....A must watch movie for all tamil fans and those who love tamil films....

Very childish immaturish film
rohitreviews15 July 2022
The acting, storyline, everything seems over the top, childish, naive. The girls are unruly, misbehaved, and even the warden, teachers act so stupid to their antics. It feels like 10 year old wrote and made this film.

brilliant
swanran10 December 2009
it is a kind of movie where they have adapted a story that seems to have happened fifty years before, to today's occurrence which is a brilliant move.the lead character suited himself is a last man of the world if one such man keeps existing in this world.the world would move on. he is strong but not violent he is intelligent but not wicked.he is brave only to his enemies.he takes pains, insults &never try to revenge.he isn't blind folded he knows the real alien elements that cause destruction.the youthful girls who in the beginning insult him later understands & become interested in saving the country from the enemies.and really audiences had been given a movie which takes them to a different world where the terms may differ but whatever they talk does resemble with today's life.

Bad acting, juvenile direction, rubbish plot, unnecessary melodrama, crummy dialogues

Warning: Spoilers
If you have had a really good day and want to balance it by wasting 3 hours of your life which you'll never get back, this is the film for you. It is a never before seen mix of ridiculous acting, rotten direction, unoriginal plot, crummy dialogues. Personally I have never been so disappointed in my life. I have heard people say that South Indian films have been better than Bollywood fare, I have been looking for one such film and I'll let you know when I see one. The scheduled tribe angle for the NCC coach was unnecessary, the girls as fighters does not cut it, the foreign terrorists was below par, A 6 year old dyslexic with ADHD could have written better dialogues. One thing I appreciate about the film is the way the producer and director have gauged the collective stupidity of the Indian cinema going audience and have made this film to cater to the lowest common denominator, or in other words, the gonads of society. I am surprised that this film came from the land which borders Kerala where Adoor Gopalkrishnan makes his films.

I am tired of people saying good films can not be commercial or mainstream. I am surprised how this film managed to get 7 stars.
