A simple Family film.👍
Tejas_Vinda_AITS11 November 2022
Three friends leave their comfy lives behind to enter on a journey to Mount Everest.

SoorajRBarjatya delivers a straight-from-the-heart film that *celebrates friendship and hope...*

A simple story treated with simplicity, with drama and with emotions. Slow paced 1st half but *its not boring..!!*

it's a beautiful film that deserves to be watched in the theatres *with family - frnds..!!*

The visuals are breath-taking, and it's probably one of the most visually appealing Sooraj Barjatya films.

Acting is good from all the lead actors..!! The magic, simplicity, and innocence of Sooraj Barjatya works in 2022 as well..!!

A smooth trip to Himalayas!!
adhikariprashamsa13 November 2022
Though being a nepalese and day since its shooting being an anticipated one, though my expectations didn't matched the reality I still loved it as a family drama "ofcourse" dur to its production company.

A beautiful trip to Himalayas to fulfill last dreams of noe from the 'foursome' friends who are together irrespective of what they are involved in.

A simple story with simplicity, magnificient acting and actors.

It deserves to be watched at least once by a nepalese specially and how the really old ones went to the shooting locatiosn to really 'shoot'. Yes, use of VFX is minimum don't expect bramhastra ehre.

A nice family entertainera at last.!!

Certainly worth a watch!
kk-1966113 November 2022
Though the premise of 4 old friends setting out on Everest Base Camp at a very old age appears flimsy, the film portrays emotions and feelings most of us have. I have seen a few reviews as 'preachy' - but I sincerely feel it is what you and I would say if such situations arise. I really liked that the film is devoid of much of Bollywood formula. The only thing that can distance the film from majority is that it is set in a very affluent lifestyle. Could have been a more middle-class or 'upper middle-class' setting.

Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta, Amitabh Bachchan, Sarika, Danny Denzongpa breeze through their roles. Parineeti cast as your guide appears a bit contrived. A normal Sherpa would have been apt with Parineeti as a trekker.

Overall a good watch!

Agai a masterpiece by Sooraj Barjatya. He proves films can be made with love emotions and life. Full of life movie. Every frame every moment celebrates life and and it's crux. Star cast is amazing. They proved that age is just a number. Cinematography is wonderful. Though the introduction of characters were quite slow but when story runs it gains momentum. Songs are superb. Spacially ketiko. Sarika's come back is wonderful. Anupam kher again proved he is the best. Amitabh Bachchan ji, baoman Irani ji Neena Gupta ji, Danny denzongapa al r best.

I loved it, worth watching the movie. All must go n watch.

Fine and Inspiring Family Film
Niraj_Solanki12 December 2022
*UUNCHAI (2022) -*

Few aged friends take a trek to the Everest Base Camp (EBC-Nepal), to accomplish their friend's last wish. A naive climbing then becomes personal, emotional, and mystical journey as they battle their physical limitations (by being old) and recognize the true meaning of self-determination. Film has a very talented actors army like Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Danny, Boman Irani, Parineeti Chopra, Neena Gupta, Sarika and Nafisha Ali. Need not to say that all of them are great and have lifted this Rajshri Production's venture greatly as well.

Barjatyas are known for making large scale family entertainers! And Uunchai is also a family drama which revolves around friendship of senior citizens. Story is all about friends amongst whom one dies and rest all to fulfill his last wish decides to climb EBC. All of them have zeal, potential, firm motive and wish of accomplishment this task, but alongside limitations and difficulties. How they old aged completes this against all odds is the crux of this film.

Film has light comedy, drama, family emotions, friendship stories, sentiments, catchy dialogues, some real mountaineering, and scenic beauty of Everest. Yes! Amit Trivedi's music is outstanding and literally flows with the film. Songs are hummable and likable. Film is long and at times slow so screenplay could have been better here. Through sharp editing film also could have been cut shorted a bit coz it is nearly of 3 hours. But overall, it's a good watch and parents/grandparents would like it for sure. Take your family along and I would like to rate it as 3.5 / 5 (🌟🌟🌟💫).

*What I Liked Most? -* Anupam Kher and his comic-timing throughout.

*By - Niraj Solanki..!*

A Modern Classic.
chaitanyasachdeva12 November 2022
The story of the film is as clear as in the plot. What drives the film is the journey of the three friends. It's a story of friendship and what the term 'Friendship' truly means. The film will make you laugh and will make you cry. It will make your young ones think about their elders and will make the elders think about their young ones. Have great expectations with Uunchai. It's not a film we see everyday, it's a rare modern classic and will leave you thinking about life for some good few hours after watching it.

Uunchai is a fine watch and should be among the top cinema choices of your watchlist.

Good film but falls short as must watch
nirav-hiral13 November 2022
After a lot of disappointing films given by Bollywood recently, Uunchai is definitely a movie which a good to watch.

Cinematography and overall pace of the movie is good.

Acting of all 4 top Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani and Danny Denzongpa is true to their names.

I love Amit Trivedi's music but in this movie I find it very loud and not matching with the theme and background of the movie. It is more noisy than touching heart.

About the script and dialogues - there is a real lack of substance which can make it great.

The film is trying to cover so many dimensions in given time and that's why has not gone deep in to main theme of friendship.

On the other side if you don't go with high expectations then this is a good clean movie to watch along with family which is Rajshri Productions hallmark.

Unmissable!! emotional film .. with some rocking performances !!
sanjubhat14 November 2022
Film Review Uunchai #sanjuzzreviews #Uunchai #AmitabhBachchan #bomanirani #AnupamKher The plot of this Barjatiya film is fairly simple. Three friends Amit Srivastava ( Amitabh Bacchan), Om ( Anupam Kher) & Javed ( Boman Irani) undertake the arduous trek to Everest Base Camp to honour the final wish of their recently deceased friend Bhupen(Danny).

Salon main ek aisi film aati hai jo dil ko choo jaati hai; Uunchai is one such film. Awesome ensemble cast. Superb dialogues, especially the banter between the 3 friends. Amitabh,Baman & Kher as the protagonists have given fabulous performances. Neena Gupta is a suprise package who really impresses in her small impactful role. Parineeti is wasted in a small role, Sarika too does well.

Cinematography is mashallah, the beautiful, white, snow clad Himalayas are very well captured.

Backstories of each and every character is very well etched out & does not digress from the main narrative.

Music is very good.. "KT Ko" is fantastic and so is "Haan kar De" both sung by Amit Trivedi.

Uunchai will definitely bring tears in ur eyes or at least a lump in ur throat during the beautifully enacted emotional scenes .

Unmissable!!! Watch either on OTT or in theatres where it is now screening!!

4/5 from me for this film .. Adios 🙂!!

Average
movie_fanatic1237 January 2023
Very average and underwhelming, nice concept but disappointing overall. Screenplay and dialogues very weak, not as touching as other Raj Shri movies. Great cast and good music though. Suraj barjatiya used to be master of emotions and feel good movies but has long lost the same touch since vivah. The entire cast tried hard to save this movie but unfortunately without much success. This is at most suitable for one time watch on ott if you have too much time on hands, would skip it if better choices. Great cinematography and visuals, perhaps next time invest in good script writer and dialogue writer.

What a load of BS
Iqs_k8 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Plot is too thin, trek prep and actual trek is highly inaccurate.

Even a 30 year old will need 2 months to prepare for this trek and the movie shows that the 3 aged men who barely workout could get fit for it in 2 months

Then the trek shows only one guide for such a large group who is impatient when the old folks slow her down. Seriously? This is an extremely high altitude and large groups have multiple assistant guides who ensure that slower folks are not alone and sim guide continues to lead the rest of the group

The craziness on the bridge during the rain - that never happens. The trek is not easy but it has been shown as treacherous which it is not.

Overall the movie is at least one hour long due to unnecessary melodrama and the trek part wasn't fun at all.

Uunchai ..the meaning of life..
AnoopVarma1 December 2022
A magic created by a legendry Director Sooraj Barjatya...a movie without any obscene scenes and violent action and sticking to the pure basics of narrating the story with a low budget of 35 crores with mega starcast.

May be today's generation will not like but they must send their parents to watch this movie because this movie portraying love, togetherness, the strong friendship bond, family values, culture and relationships. Aap samay ke saath chaliye but not on cost of humanities and values.

Relationships are very important, if you love someone or missing someone then Dont do delay in communicating your feelings..love never dies its remains in your heart.. never miss a moment with your loved ones. ...kal rahen na rahen.. background song ..ye jeewan hai..iss jeewan ka yahi hai rang roop..whole film treatment is based on the inner meaning of this song.

It narrates to find of solution balancing the elder younger generation & to listen to each other.

This Film is not about Everest but it teaches us about standing tall & firmly in all circumstances with feet grounded like Everest.

In one frame your eyes are full of tears in next frame you are laughing ..what a wonderful treatment, emotions..life lesson what not.. It's teaches us to convert unpleasant discussions into lighter moments, Life is unpredictable, enjoy each & every moment, Spread happiness all around giving your hundred percent.

Amazing Cinematography by Manoj Khatoi..Camera moves according to the emotions and demand of scene ..simply amazing photography of Himalayan range.. songs are not hit but very soothing and sweet with situations and Nepalese flavour, well composed by Amit Trivedi.. Towering performance by sadi ke mahanayak Amitabh Bacchan, mesmeric support by Boman Irani, Anupam Kher, Neena Gupta and Sarika and Pariniti Chopra. Danny was felt till the end.

Several times I have been in Nepal..I am fond of Nepal. After so many years seeing Nepal beauty mesmerized me.

This movie will compels you to watch again.. Lastly I will say Sooraj Barjatya is actual hero.

In one frame all the legends are performing their best..this miracle only *Sooraj Sir* can do.

A Rajshri's trek to Everest Base Camp.
chand-suhas5 February 2023
Amitabh Bachchan gets to once again deal with personal loss and learn to grieve in this Rajshri venture about 3 friends trying to honour their 4th friend who recently passed away with an unfinished dream to climb everest. It is quite evident that it has trekking as backdrop but is directed by someone who has never trekked himself. So, much of the focus is on the drama and not until 97mins into the movie, the actual trek begins.

What does work is the bonding between the three actors - Big B, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani. They largely make this work, firmly aided by Neena Gupta and Sarika. Much of the focus is on these people's individual lives issues. Much to my surprise, Rajshri went realistic in handling relationships and even going ahead to admit elders can be wrong too. But then it was getting too realistic so towards the third act they increased the melodrama through Amitabh's character.

It is infact an endearing attempt, the humor is neat and the emotions pure. Not that you would expect anything different from a Rajshri film. Just watch it for what it is and don't have any wrong expectations. This is purely a human relationship drama and very less of an adventure film. I did wish for better memorable songs though.

A good idea ruined by poor script
vijayadar12 January 2023
First, the idea of three elderly friends taking the desire of another recently deceased friend seriously enough to attempt a hike to the Everest Base Camp for dispersing his ashes, coming from a deeply embedded Bollywood production house, is novel and refreshing.

But that's where the novelty and freshness ends.

The film meanders at a pedestrian pace, pandering to the usual Rajshri maudlin sentiments, leaving one frustrated and thoroughly dissatisfied.

The film suffers from the inclusion of the 3 female characters of Neena Gupta, Sarika, and Nafisa Ali. They are not at all required to move the plot, but work only to drag the script at an excruciating slow pace. The film is almost 3 hours long. If the script had been kept true to the original idea, the film would have been a tight 100 t0 120 minutes long, and a delight to watch.

Even the magnificent Himalayas fail to lift the movie beyond mediocre.

A film to celebrate friendship and linked emotions
vishal-paranjape13 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This film has a great emotional story and a good emotional story teller. There are a very very few good Hindi movies from Hindi film industry in recent times and this definitely places itself amongst the top 3 spots of post COVID Hindi movies.

The story celebrates the friendship and emotions linked to friends. 3 old aged friends who decides to climb to Everest base camp to honor their friends last wish and to honor the friend by immersing his ashes at the place which was always in his heart.

With tear dropping emotions film also blends some humorous sequences which makes you tickle, laugh and remind of your friends.

The film also infuses a motivational factor within by showcasing that age is just a number and if you have a motivation and passion to do something you can achieve any height. The last dialog of the films sums it up by saying "everyone has a Everest within, which can take you to the greater heights".

On acting part everyone justified their roles. Amitabh Bacchan, Anupam Kher and Boman Irani are as usual greats. Neena Gupta also brought a freshness and humour with her to the point acting of a friend's wife.

Overall, the film is a fresh breath of Hindi Cinema with a good, soft and emotional story. There are some areas where direction and special effects could have been better, but all an all an enjoyment to watch in theaters.

Should of had a 70s reunion
rajashakaziz6 September 2023
This movie could of been more epic and a major throw back if they casted Amitabh Bachchan's co-stars from the 1970s-80s.

I mean could of had Jeetendra, Shatrughan Sinha and He-Man himself Dhramendra. Would of been the perfect ending and a big reunion for the superstars of yesteryears. We got Danny and Anupam who were great. However this being a good it lacked something and yawned a bit. The other cast members were very good, the music was decent.

Got to give credit to Amitabh Bachchan, at 80 plus and still shaking a leg. However make your own minds up on this one. It is well worth a watch. Enjoy.

A must watch movie
rahulw-2958313 November 2022
Wow, such a great experience, i was bit skeptical about this movie because of the run time almost 3 hours, but it didn't matter.. Amitabh Bachchan, Anupam Kher, Boman Irani, Sarika, Neena Gupta, all blossomed in entire movie, such a great performance from everyone.

And hats off to the director Suraj Barjatya.. scenes are so gripping.. captured beautifully, and never loosing the interest..

its not just journey to everest, but deep friendship, trust, and laughs.. simple dialogues but so touching.. this is how movies should be made, to entertain and teach a bit.

Really movie has delivered extra, expectations were high because of bigger cast and it exceeded..

Don't wait for the OTT, go watch in the theaters with your friends and family, you will remember the experience for long time...

Bhut hi achi movie hain
chwdrykulwant16 November 2022
Unlike his earlier family dramas mounted on a large scale with a backdrop of a family wedding or a love story, Barjatya's Uunchai is refreshingly different and breathtakingly beautiful. It opens with a group of three friends -- Amit (Bachchan), Om (Kher) and Javed (Irani) along with Mala (Sarika) who are on a trek to reach the EBC (Everest base Camp) led by tour guide Shraddha Gupta (Parineeti Chopra). Soon after, we are shown a flashback from two months ago about how they landed here and what unfolds thereafter. Back in Delhi, we are told, this trio celebrated their close friend Bhupen's (Danny Denzongpa) birthday, and the next morning his demise leaves them shattered. To.

ZINDAGI KO HAAN KAR DE, SOCH KO JAWAN KAR DE"
nandaniarora-9152616 November 2022
After all it's just a film... so what.... Many would describe this latest presentation of #Rajishriproductions but this one is way beyond that.... A tale of friendship,of togetherness,of love,of bonding & more importantly of culture & tradition & who better than Mr #soorajbartajya to showcase it on the big screen... Moving with times is not bad but not at the cost of humanity & values Mr #Amitabhbachan undoubtedly is a legend & is par excellence but cheers to the director & writer for not letting the audience feel his dominance over the other characters being his friends played by another set of brilliant actors Mr #anupamkher & #bomanirani & then we have another veteran Mr #dannydenzonpa & if we have seen him on screen after a long time we know for the matter of fact there must be some substance to his role ...a guest appearance it is but he leaves an impact as always... Not to steal the contribution of the female actresses #sarika #neenagupta both good #parineetichopra too is impressive.

Amazing movie, but very lengthy
alihusaink15 November 2022
The story of three friends and their bond was the integral part of the movie. Story is very good and all the actors have done their job wonderfully. Amitabh Bachchan is legendary actor and he proved it again. Boman and Anupam has supported and have done a great job too. Parineeti has limited role but she has done it well too. There are no complaints except for one that the movie is stretched a lot. This movie would have made more sense and have been more appealing if it would be just 1hr 40mins max. The scenes are dragged and made lengthier for no reason. Rest all is great and it is amazing family movie.

uk-206737 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I will just say that the movie is good but the movie bored me, I don't know why when the songs in India movies stopped, I will just give 3 stars. A film is not famous for its actors, the story of the film should be good. Bollywood should stop playing songs in their movies now. World has progressed bollywood industry still hasn't stopped playing songs in movies bollywood needs a lot of effort now. In this movie unnchai has not any adventure. Last part of unnchai movie is not good finish. I watch this movie i like but i very bored to watch unnchai movie. In the end Bollywood needs a lot of effort.

A different league
sameerlodaya8 January 2023
Sameer lodaya

The movie is all together a different league of entertainment

The concept is about friendship and tribute to the lost one .. Each and every scene of the movie is very mature and has a message for you to read and understand the meaning ,importance and behaviour of relationships.

The craft of the movie in its aesthetics, locations are extraordinary..Rajshri the house of emotions has once again showered deep and touching feelings here

About performances here the university of acting was present like amitji bomanji and anupamji..a lot can be learned from these legends

The movie is more to understand and read the message which the makers are trying to deliver..the movie is meant of a specific gentry of viewers

The movie is slow and lengthy and would be difficult for youth and teenagers to grasp it.

Could have been much better
cinematicsandy27 November 2022
The story is really nice. A ode to friendship. Good casting too. But each character did not get enough opportunity to play out. At some points I could feel the actors were not connecting with the situation.

Amitjis characters sick look - déjà vu.

Probably I went with too much expectation. Having watched many movies that have trekking / climbing - the Hollywood mountain location in movies looked more real.

In some bits the actors in the mountains didn't feel real.

Didnt hold me throughout.

Surely saw the Mercedes and puma infilm effort too. Sorry if I missed any other brand but I felt it could have been less conspicuous.

It worth watching this movie .
sarojiam12 November 2022
Simple movie with lot's of lesson. Some lesson I got form this movie are: 1) Always focus in your goal.

2) Parents should respect their children opinion to make their carrier in any field 3) What we see only is not the reality in this world.

4) Everest as the name suggest should be the destination to visit.

5) It's very good family film to watch with family members.

6) Friendship and hope is celebrated well enough in this movie.

7) Children should love their parents.

Apart form this Me as being Nepalese highly recommend all the people to watch this movie with family and friends. You can watch full Everest trek.

A surprisingly decent movie
mmasstan17 November 2022
As someone who is not a fan of director Sooraj R. Barjatya's films, I have to say this was an unexpectedly good movie.

Uunchai really delivers the aspect of feel-good as we have seen in Hum Saath-Saath Hain and Hum Aapke Hain Koun...!, but the film does it in a way that is not unbearably sweet and over-the-top. The friendship depicted felt real, and it helped immerse myself into the story more, which was also an interesting aspect.

What I thought was really cool about the plot was that the characters were not flawless, which helped me resonate and connect with them in an emotional level. Everybody had a reason to go on this trip other than for the sake of their friend, and it made me want to root for them more. Also, the differences between the old and the new generation was put into display in many parts of Uunchai. Not only did it portray the flaws of this disconnect, but it depicted the understanding of both sides of the issue very well.

Highlights for me were the music and background score by Amit Trivedi and George Joseph respectively. All the actors were in fine form, even Parineeti Chopra who surprised me with her well-suited role as a trekking guide. Barjatya is still somewhat in his comfort zone with this film, but he is still doing what he does best: making joyful entertainers.
