Good but a bit too formulaic

Italian medical fiction is on the rise after the success of Doc nelle tue mani. And this is yet another example of the genre, executed professionally by the talented Cinzia Th Torrini.

Started off well, placing the lead character into a situation that is bound to get more twisted and troublesome. Marco Bocci is convincing enough in the title role, and the unmatched elegance of Violante Placido as his wife serves as a natural special effect of sorts.

However, with the 2nd episode the tension drops down as certain cliché side stories are introduced, such as a lame romance between the surgeon's stepdaughter and the grandson of the crimelord.

Given this is supposed to last 6 nights, which makes a total of 12 episodes, summing up to half a day of airtime, it seems the thriller aspect will dissolve more and more into some kind of family drama.

The material in hand would work perfectly as a mini series of 4 strong episodes, but well, this is Rai 1 and not Netflix.
