Waited so long for nothing
melk08156 August 2023
Where to start...I waited forever for this found footage wendigo film only to be so disappointed with the outcome. It was only a little over an hour and I almost couldn't make it to the end. This is NOT horror and is definitely NOT a creature feature. It's just bad acting, bad effects, and an even worse story line. The main subject, Logan, is absolutely terrible. I couldn't root more for his demise. If you're looking for a strong found footage horror film and a good wendigo storyline this is NOT the found footage film for you. I usually don't expect much from FF movies but this was a let down.

I went in not expecting much and wasn't disappointed
amaranthrose5 August 2023
It really wasn't much. It was cheesy, hilarious and definitely not horror. The editing was over the top and makes the movie look cheap. It's an okay "mockumentary"/found footage movie. But its nothing ground breaking. It reminded me of VHS if you ever seen that. I wouldn't say it's bad by any means, but it's also not that good either. It's somewhere in the middle. Giving it a 5 would be too generous though.

If you are expecting a movie with character backgrounds, lots of suspense and good effects, this probably isn't the movie for you. But if you are looking for a quick movie to watch just for fun and entertainment, then I would say go for it.

Movie doesn't really go anywhere
spaldingg-719029 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
There are hints of good acting here but it's mostly overshadowed by a nonexistent story. Spoiler alert everyone dies or becomes a zombie essentially. I'm a sucker for movies like this so it's worth watching just go in with low expectations with found footage. My favorite part was when one character was explaining Pangaea and how many religions overlap each other because those ideas were once on the same land mass. Not sure why that same character was such a douche to another and was the first to turn but it's what it is. The beginning part was pretty funny and lifelike so again two good/decent actors. The rest didn't add much to the story or just sucked. The cop was ok but was brief so doesn't really count. Monster design or cultist not sure but we have seen before.

It's bad.

Warning: Spoilers
While the commentary in the live stream at the beginning was funny and seemed believable, it's all downhill from there. After the main character disappears we are tortured with over 30 minutes of people just driving, talking in apartments, hanging out in a parking lot. So many good low budget films have to leave stuff out due to time and budget, and directors and producers have to make tough calls on what to keep or cut. This film commits the crime of having a ton of time to tell a story and then wasting all of it.

After 30-40 minutes of boring non-action there is a quick escalation of tension. Supposedly this was "the creature effecting the group" but this isn't conveyed. Instead it's just a bunch of people starting to get angry for seemingly no reason. The characters don't portray fear or confusion, just boring dialog interspersed with random outbursts of profanity.

The rest of the film is okay. It's not a high budget film so effects, acting, and other factors are all easy to forgive. The biggest sin this film commits is having so much time to tell a story then abusing its viewers by wasting half the run time with pointless mind numbing junk. If you're going to make the viewer wait, make it worth it.

This movie sucked.
billstubbles-9145816 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
An annoying idiot goes into the woods completely unprepared and gets dragged out of his tent into the darkness.

His even more annoying friends go searching for him with no plan, no supplies, no clues, but several cameras.

They apparently reach some kind of critical mass of annoyance just as they find the obligatory deserted cabin and spontaneously turn into dollar store rip-offs of the Evil Dead, using up at least $3 of the $5 special effects budget. All that was missing was the tape recording of the demon-summoning chant.

The original annoying idiot, now one of the rip-off Deddites,, shows up long enough to monologue what the writer apparently thought was a scary explanation for any viewers who are still hanging on in the vain hope that this piece of junk will get better.

The dollar store wendigo, a guy whose deer skull and coveralls with sticks glued to them apparently used up the last $2 of the special effects budget, shows up.

The next morning, the obligatory park ranger finds one of their cameras, so we have the Blair Witch rip-off explanation as to where this "found footage" came from.

And that's it.

I've seen my share of bad found footage movies. This is the worst I've seen to-date.

This movie has absolutely nothing at all to recommend it.

Horrible...Just Awful
wolfqueen202022 August 2023
I could barely pay attention it was so boring. They got the wendigo lore wrong and didn't even try to just make a creative twist to the lore. The makeup was awful and cheesy most of the time. Occasionally it looked creepy but that didn't last long. The trail cams were so stupid in this black and white artsy style. Making the video lag or blur and freeze and then play over and over again in various scenes is the most annoying. We get it. Everything they really couldn't compensate for their budget they pretended the camera had an issue. Nobody seemed to be the main character. Dialogue was very stupid. Characters were so one dimensional I neither cared nor wished them dead. They just meant nothing at all. The wendigo itself looked incredibly awful. Like a walmart ghillie suit and a cheap halloween skull. Just a terrible movie. Awful. Don't fall for the movie poster.

Another less then spectacular found footage film ... yeah?
kirachloe8 August 2023
I am not even sure what I was supposed to be watching. Did this have a genre you were reaching for? ... a script? ... were you and your friends just winging it? So let's start with a lot of cussing, then show a bunch of people that have nothing better to do than watch your vlog (the scene setups for those shots were lacking ... something? ... alot?).

Call me unimpressed. I hope your high school drama or theater teacher at least gave you a passing grade for the effort.

You probably pushed the boundaries of the art concept of 'suspension of disbelief' by even suggesting the main role has premium subscribers.

For the love of god, don't do this again.

Why can't you give 0 stars
Sp00pymovieman26 January 2024
I just made an account on here to warn everyone about how terrible this movie is. I really don't know what to say. My cat actually got up and left the room 10 minutes in and came back right after it was over,I was actually excited to watch this movie with my girlfriend and we are still in shock at this disgrace of a horror movie we just witnessed,I wasted one of my energy drinks to have the energy to stay up and put my eyes through the torture of watching this, I still have to put more characters in here, I don't think I'm gonna put spoilers, that was the most painful hour of my life and I've fractured my arm before, so if someone actually read all this and still wants to watch this film,Godspeed.

Don't bother
haskel-7295129 February 2024
I love a good found footage movie. Thing is, out of 10 found footage movies one will be watchable. Out of ten watchable ones, two will be better than fair. This is not one of those. With despicable characters and impossible occurrences combined with a slow pace this was doomed from the word go. The ONLY thing getting this a two star rating from me as opposed to a one star is the accuracy with which it portrays "influencers". Spend an hour on the cesspool that is Instagram for confirmation. With that said, there is no reason to watch this horrid, amateurish, lifeless imposter of a movie. None. Don't bother.

Fun Found Footage Fare
skinnerramone20 October 2022
Just watched Jake Robinson's found footage movie The Wendigo. Right off the hop I'm inclined to like this movie because I'm a fan of found footage movies, and with it's 68 minute runtime it's exactly what I'm looking for in an a low budget indie film.

The opening 10 minutes are the livestream format as seen in the recent Shudder hit, Deadstream. The "live" comments during the stream are both hilarious and realistic. Jake used actual Twitch streamers to do the comments and the results are pure authenticity and comedy gold. I'll have to watch those 10 minutes again just to read all the comments.

The rest of the movie is found footage mockumentary format which I'm also a fan of. It's a slow burn, not usually my thing because it's hard to pull of successfully, but Jake manages to do it. The lean runtime helps, there is no fat on this movie, it moves at a brisk pace and it's never boring. Once the action does start, it's frantic and believable. Jamie and Clint Apple did a great job on the SFX makeup.

The movie is well acted, a very solid cast, no weak links. Shoutout to Rudy Ledbetter and Shawn Thompson on their reaction videos, and I thought Matthias Margraves and Tyler Gene both did outstanding jobs. But again, I hesitate to single anybody out because they all did an amazing job. The characters, mostly insufferable youtube streamers, are portrayed very believably. You will not like these characters. Unlikable characters in horror movies are my personal favorite because it's more satisfying when they die.

An overall solid effort that you should check out when it's released if you're a fan of the found footage genre.

Worth an hour of your time.
weenyhen13 August 2023
Is it the best movie I've ever seen? Not by a long shot. But it's also not the worst. You can pretty much guess what's going to happen after the first 5 minutes. That being said, I enjoyed it.

It's a found footage film about a haunting in the woods. Doesn't leave much to the imagination. Just don't go into it expecting much. It's a movie that my buddies and I (with ZERO film directing or acting experience) probably could've shot on our phones. Shaky POV camera and the acting isn't much better.

Now, with all that being said, I still enjoyed it. I think they were smart to keep it short. If you're looking for something new to kill an hour, I'd definitely say it's worth a watch.

An incredibly fun found-footage creature feature
kannibalcorpsegrinder5 August 2023
Trying to figure out what happened, a group of online vloggers documenting their trip in the woods hunting for the truth about their missing friend find the cause to be a mythical creature that had caused his disappearance to now be hunting them and must get out of the woods alive.

Overall, this was a pretty enjoyable genre effort. One of the better features here is the rather impressive setup that showcases the group out in the woods and how they got there. The initial video of the interrupted livestream showing the vlogger getting out into the woods and being attacked is genuinely chilling and suspenseful, especially with the buffering happening at the perfect time to ruin the opportunity to see anything clearly. This spurns on the necessary investigation into what's happening that leads to the introduction of the team and their various quirks as the more time they spend out in the woods the more this all gets highlighted involving personal squabbles that were bubbling under the surface to hidden secrets that are brought about. That all provides the kind of thrilling action as it all plays out with the creature taking its powers to the forefront. The ideas here, where the sense of panic and confusion of being alone in the woods with faulty equipment and the oncoming sense of doom once the strange interactions take place, start in nicely with the effects of the situation turning everyone against each other to the point of not noticing what's going on with the creature attacks. This leads to the frenetic finale where the constant interactions with the newly-possessed victims turning on everyone else which leads to some frenetic sequences alongside the race to get to safety that only leads to them running into more of the creatures and the main beast at the end with some solid gore thrown in. These here are what hold the film up overall while there are some slight drawbacks that can be had with this one. The biggest issue here is the drastic introduction to everything that really gives us no time to breathe or get acclimated to anything. Rather than give us a short spiel about his career working on the channel or what's going on, the use of the original broadcast footage as a cold open without a lot of context causes this to start off rather quickly thinking that this is the purpose of the film before switching over to the search for this missing person. This change doesn't affect the film too much but it does stand out for a wasted block at the beginning of the film already barely an hour long. That gets highlighted with the only other factor being the low-budget limitations placed here which again don't ruin the film but do stand out slightly.

Rated Unrated/R: Graphic Language and Graphic Violence.

A bit of a rough start, but overall a well-paced horror film with some quite horrifying scenes
gallai3659 August 2023
I had the opportunity to watch Jake Robinson's first feature film The Wendigo and overall, I liked what I saw.

The acting is generally adequate, I did find the actor playing Logan a bit too much at times, although it's true that his character was supposed to be a bit annoying one. On the other hand, Hunter Redfern and (although he had a small role) Paul Hurley were very believable, as was Matthias Margraves, not to mention the design of the title character.

Despite the fact it clocks out around 63-64 minutes, the story proved to be a bit thin in general, but the last 15 minutes was pretty effective.

In terms of cameo actors - if the crew works with apparently high-definition cameras, the vloggers should have recorded their scenes in at least 720p. It was a bit distracting to watch the lifeless, low quality (not the acting, but the technical aspects) webcam footage for minutes to be honest.

Overall though - especially as this was the director's first film- it was a fun and good creature feature. 7/10.

The Wendigo was SO Worth the Wait!!
dannirobinson-339037 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I think Jake Robinson did a Fantastic job on The Wendigo!! Every great director had to have their first start in movie making. And as for Jake, I think the script was a great concept. Through the movie you can see the creature around the corner if you look closely. The actors did a great job coming together to find their famous YouTube friend in the woods. As the movie goes on, the creature slowly begins to get into their heads. They begin to turn irritable and then extremely violent. It just goes to show... sometimes when you seek out things... you just may find what you're looking for. 10/10 ALL THE WAY!!!
