One for the family
chickwah28 November 2023
I enjoyed this film, mostly for the performances of the younger members of the cast, who out-acted the adults without exception. It's always good to see young talent coming through, and I'll be watching out for them in the future.

The film was a fun, rainy afternoon movie for all the family and it had a clear story and plot.

The adults in the cast could learn a thing or two from the kids, who demonstrated their ability to cope with both the humorous and dramatic parts of their roles. Most of the adults' performances were somewhat wooden, so the kids were giving them an acting master class throughout.

The not so magical movie.

This movie is just not good It has it's moments with a few good jokes, but generally it is not a very good film.

The acting was not amazing and the filmaking is not that far behind either.

The music wasn't half bad actually.

The villain of the movie was not good.

My favourite character was probably Willow the girl who befriends our protagonist and believes she is a witch.

Very little CGI was used but it was bad, (not horrible, don't get me wrong).

The first part of the movie was really boring, but the second was enjoyable. The ending felt rushed to me, ( didn't enjoy that).

I would not rewatch this movie, a lot of stuff that happened came out of nowhere and they repeated phrases over and over again so it became boring.

Good film for young viewers
westielover-4825212 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This is a movie that may amuse a very young elementary school age viewer.

In a film typical of this genre, a widowed mother relocates to a small town with her adolescent son.

The town is quaint and very cute, but it is allegedly under a "curse". I wish I could say that the storyline was well executed, but it wasn't. The adolescent male lead and his new found female companion did what they could with a lackluster script. They were both out-performed by the canine co-star "Sprocket" portrayed by "Pippa"who was adorable, and super cute.

Denise Richards talent was wasted on this film...The script which may still appeal to children fell flat and was just disappointing...Although the young people may yet make other films and have a chance to grow from this experience, this film will not enhance their careers. The first scenes as they are heading towards the town has the young man seeing an old wom an in black, but she disappears and is never seen again.

There were so many missed opportunities to create a more meaningful film.

Great Suspense & Fun

Ignore the comments made by teen boys about this movie, this movie is not for them. It was made for a family audience and is a wonderful story about friendship filled with lots of mystery and adventure that kids from 5-12 will really enjoy. Young Elliott moves with his mom, Denise Richards, to a new small town. There he meets the mysterious Willow a self professed witch and town outcast. Together they go on a fun adventure to save the town from a witches curse. It's a great movie to watch in late Fall as the Fall colours are really beautiful, and lend to the spirit of Halloween. The kids are really great in this film, our kids really enjoyed watching them. The bad guy Mr. Hexenmeister is also very well played. We highly recommend this movie for your entire family.

Made For TV
pjcguy-963-67726112 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This is clearly a Lifetime type of movie "for the whole family." Lots of problems. No one hires an experienced reporter/journalist in a town that wants to keep secrets, SLR cameras with telescopic lenses don't focus themselves nor do they provide photos through mesh fencing without focusing. The movie attempts to develop a Spielberg type of kids movie, but it is all much too light, too simplistic, and overall trite.

Questions too. Magic or NOT magic. Most of the film is collecting the gems which are supposed to be magic/witchcraft and then in the end, we see a magic event which is then stated in the end that there is no magic/witchcraft which means all the dreams and visions didn't exist. So which is it?

Bad!
keasty25 October 2023
Terrible acting by the two kids and even though I respect and like Denise Richards, this does not do her justice! There's a part where Willow is reading Elliot a part of the book ( 44 minutes in) and is saying about a warlock coming to the town and taking revenge. It then shows the page she is reading from and her finger moving along, pause it, you can then read about a conversation between King Arthur and Lancelot!! Nothing to do with warlocks and witches. The acting of these two is very amateur, and its no wonder they've only done 7 movies/TV between them. The person who give this movie a 9 and raved about it has certainly led a sheltered life OR was part of this drabble of a movie!

One Of The Best Family Films!
phillipdevillers13 November 2022
Our entire family really enjoyed this terrific adventure story. Such superb acting from two young performers, especially the girl, what a hoot she was. I expect we'll be seeing more from her in the future. This is a great story filled with twists and turns as two bright kids work together to unravel a deeply held town secret and save it from destruction. Lot's of great locations and well done visual effects make this film a real feast for the viewer. Denise Richards is as beautiful as ever as the mom and investigative journalist. This is a very well written and intelligent script, filled with a lot of laughs. We loved the dog, hilarious!
