Warning: Spoilers
A haunted house, mysterious whispers and secrets in the shadows attract Sarah's attention. When Professor Rivers and the gang investigate an old legend, a monstrous creature appears in the night. The terrifying grasp of Erasmus Darkening reaches out from centuries past. Sarah and the gang discover the secrets of Erasmus Darkening, but are they too late? Ghosts from the past rise up and the quest to find the missing children reaches a climax. It seems that nothing can stop the ancient alchemist's rise to victory.

Review of both parts -

Well, what can I say about this one? It sure had a interesting plot about a family in a mansion just suddenly disappeared in a mansion and they were never seen again without any clues... Hell, I just realized that this story doesn't have Luke in it, that's original. Nice!

It was a great story, and had a good conclusion. Where the Knight got revenge on the man who was responsible for the disappearance of his own family and had to live with it, that actually sounds sad that you are just the only one in the family, just the last one standing.

8/10.

A very strong start.

Sarah Jane, Rani and Clyde visit the supposedly haunted Ashenhill Manor, a house with several dark secrets, one in particular surrounding Alchemist Erasmus Darkening. Sarah and co are met by Professor Celeste Rivers and Toby.

It's a good first episode, it definitely has more of a ghost story vibe than the usual sci fi, it works very well, and Donald Sumpter definitely plays the part of Darkening well. It has a very different flavour.

There are a few vibes from a couple or horror movies, those two kids looked like the ones from The Shining, the camera footage looks very Paranormal Activity, obviously ita all toned down for its audience.

Definitely a nice reference to Castrovalva, with Toby coming from The Pharos Project.

I really like the character of Rani, but it's maybe a little tougher to believe that she's a schoolgirl here, she really does look a bit older compared to Clyde, lovely performance as always though.

Review of both parts:

A solid if slightly unexceptional adventure starts with a nicely creepy ghost hunt in a stately home and a sinister villain played with relish by Game of Thrones star Donald Sumpter. These strengths are supported by the usual talents of the main cast and some nice direction.

The story itself becomes less creepy in Part 2 and becomes a bit more standard face off against the baddie but is still entertaining and has a sad undertone that is quite interesting.

My ratings: Part 1 - 7.5/10, Part 6.5/10. Overall - 7/10.
