WWE’s WrestleMania 39 delivered the highest weekend usage ever on Peacock. The two-night event was up 29% in hours viewed and 32% in reach compared to last year’s WrestleMania, Peacock announced Tuesday.
The NBCUniversal-owned streamer also claims that WrestleMania 39 generated the most hours-watched of any live event on Peacock with the exception of the Super Bowl. It should be noted that, like other streaming services, Peacock does not provide specific viewership information to back up these claims.
On linear television, the episode of “Monday Night Raw” that aired on USA Network the day after the final night of WrestleMania saw a significant boost in the ratings. This week’s episode nabbed 997,000 viewers in the key adults 18-49 demographic, the highest demo audience for “Raw” since February 2020 and up 37% from last week. In total viewers, the episode averaged 2.26 million viewers, up 23% over last week.
WrestleMania 39 took place at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

Korean-made series have continued to dominate viewership on Netflix, following on from the breakout successes of “Squid Game” and “Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha” in 2021.

Romantic comedy “Business Proposal” is currently the top non-English series for the third week in a row, and is Netflix’s third-ranking series of all origins, behind only “Bridgerton” (seasons 1 and season 2) with over 32 million watch hours.

South Korean indie studio More In Group is using Hong Kong FilMart to launch its new feature film project “19 39.”
Director Park Jae-ho is setting a quick turnaround for the comedy-drama movie which has not yet been filmed, but which he plans to release in summer this year.
The story, written by Kim Min-Jung transports five 39-year-old women back to their childhoods, to experience high school and first love. Their happy memories contrast with present day reality as women on the cusp of middle age. The clash forces them to reflect on the true meaning of love and friendship.
(A similar theme is explored in current Jtbc-Netflix series “Thirty Nine” with three women all age 39 who juggle work, life and relationships. It was also previously explored in 2011 hit film “Sunny”.)
Park has set Lee So-yeon (the lead of TV series “Ms. Montecristo”), Son Yeo-eun (“Crazy Romance”), Jeon Hye-bin, Jung Soo-young...

Still reveling in the global success of “Squid Game” and “Hellbound,” multinational streaming giant Netflix has scheduled the launch of 25 South Korean shows in the current year. The total is the company’s highest to date.
The new slate includes “All of Us Are Dead,” in which zombies invade a high school, and is launching on Jan. 28, 2022; “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area,” an undated adaptation of the popular Spanish series “Casa de Papel”; and “Seoul Vibe,” an action film in which the adventures of a special-ops team take place against the backdrop of the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games.
The bumper 2022 slate follows Netflix’s commitment early last year to invest close to $500 million in Korean content in calendar 2021, and its parallel leasing of studios near Seoul. The streamer has not unveiled a production spend commitment for 2022.
In a blog posting, Don Kang, Netflix VP of content for Korea, enthused about the 2022 releases.

Producer and broadcaster Jtbc has such a strong track record of making attractive and successful Korean TV drama series from tales of everyday lives that almost everything it does is likely to attract attention. Adding the presence of Son Ye-jin, star of Studio Dragon and Netflix hit “Crash Landing on You,” makes “Thirty-Nine” potentially one of the hottest Korean series of 2022.
The title is a reference to the age of three female friends who are only just the right side of forty. The 12-part romantic drama depicts them juggling life, work and relationships as they approach mid-life.
