Great plot, clever writing, hilarious situations and jokes, very insightful. The cast is amazing, and I mean ALL the cast, both leading and supporting, though Keagan-Michael Key and Paul Reiser as the dysfunctional but eager-to-catch-up father of the protagonist are my absolute favorites. And the writers' team, both younger and older (of course).

The eight episodes left me wanting for much more, and then I learn it's been cancelled. Please, please bring it back, "Reboot" is one of the best shows out there - it has drama, it has comedy, it has life in it, and the characters are just longing to be developed further.

How did this even get cancelled????

This is a really smart and funny show with some really great characters.

The usual sitcoms out there are just kind of Meh, but this one is actually worth watching every week!

The characters seem real, the interactions between the variety of characters is outstanding. My favorite scenes are the ones in the writing room. The interplay between them is actually really funny because they simply don't understand each other and really don't care to!

As much as I like all the characters, Johnny Knoxville is the BEST! He is typical Knoxville and does so unapologetically. Paul Register and his gang of comedy writers crack me up everytime they hit the screen.

Too bad Hulu cut it short. Big mistake. I hope someone else picks this up because it's worth it.

Surprisingly good!

Ok, I admit that I was a bit sceptical about this show, having seen the trailer. Could they fill out the weekly half hour with quality comedy? Well, the answer is a resounding YES!

This show is hilarious. The writing is clever and the acting is first rate. The cast are, well, well cast in their roles. Even the mummy's boy is turning into a likeable and hilarious character.

The juxtaposition in the writers' room, between the old fogeys and the supposedly hip younger writers is really very funny, as the two groups gradually turn into each other.

If you're not watching this, you're missing out on some very good laughs.

Cancelled...why???

This is a great little show with abundant laughs. Why would they cancel it? All the characters are funny in their own peculiar ways and I would say have much more to offer in terms of their back stories and also to keep the story moving forward.

Its a great balance of old sitcom charm and new age attention spans. Johnny Knoxville and Kegan Michael Key are the stars for me. That's not to say the other characters aren't great. They all are and work amazingly well together.

I really hope another network picks them, it would be totally worth it.

Please please don't cancel this show, I love it and am hoping, wishing for it to return.

from intrigued about the idea to laughing out loud

With half a smile, I went from intrigued about the idea to laughing out loud and wanting more episodes. The actors each have unique comedic styles and a great back and forth. Reboot offered laugh-out-loud and heartfelt moments with more than a few plot twists. What I love most about the show is seeing Boomers, Xers, Millennials, and Gen-Z, all matching wits on the set of a sitcom series turned battleground. Watching these characters who are different in age and personality find common ground gives me hope and makes it feel like a classic sitcom.

Not gonna go crazy yet, but it's good...

So far so good. Doesn't hit it out of the park, but it's quality. Great cast and concept, and it seems to be put together thoughtfully. Ironically, it's a seemingly good show that's riding on the shoulders of what's wrong with the entertainment industry right now, which is crappy reboots and minimal original content.

Hand clap 👏🏼 to Hulu, who quite obviously don't take themselves too seriously seeing that the show they are fictionally rebooting with their own station in the show actually airs on Hulu in real life.

Add Steven Leviton (?) as the show runner (who is responsible for Modern Family) plus Paul Reiser, and this has potential to go places. Can't see it for running more than a few seasons, but for my wife and me, it's as good or better than anything on TV right now.

Funny! Better than I expected. Shades of 30 Rock with some great conflicts

This really surprised me. I expected a traditional networks sitcom, and this is that but with a whole lot more. This feels like it could be a four quadrant show while also not talking down to us and having a lot of wit and inside jokes. The things that really hit, really hit hard. Actually laughing out loud is not something that usually happens for me but I did a few times. The cast is phenomenal. None of them are overdoing it or playing their tics. I have nothing negative to say. Give it a shot. Right now my favorite shows are Reservation Dogs, Barry and Succession so that'll give you a hint of my taste. Finally, I appreciate that the child actor grown up isn't a spoiled dick-they went another direction and it's so much better-thank you!

Good thing I trusted Paul Reiser.

I should admit after the first episode I was not thrilled about watching more of this show. It looked like another show you could safely pass without missing much. But the second episode changed everything. The story got much much more worthwhile. The show and characters started showing some depth and especially Paul Reiser's character kept me interested and I am glad I kept watching.

From a show I was ready to forgo it turned into something I am looking forward to. I gave it a 7 rating but it has the potential to go higher (and hopefully not disappoint).

Rachel Bloom and Paul Reiser central story line is my favorite and the richer it gets the better.

This is such a breath of fresh air. First of all, what a cast! They really knocked it out of the park. I love everybody. Key, Greer, and Knoxville are fantastic. This is the first time I've seen Calum Worthy who plays their "TV son" Zack, and he is great. And who doesn't love Paul Reiser? C'mon.

But the first thing that really hit me right was the production. This show is beautiful to look at. Top quality filming.

Then in episode 2, they brought in Fred Malamed, George Wyner, and Rose Abdoo and I fell in love with them instantly. I could watch them all day. Then Bob Clendinen from Cougar Town, in the same episode!

Well, I'm a sucker for a great cast. It's frustrating to me that Keegan Michael Key is the more serious character and straight man, because he's one of the funniest people alive. But I love shows about friends working through things together, and I love this show. I hope it is on for a while.

Well, I like the cast, but...

The writing quickly becomes formulaic. After watching the first three episodes, I already know where these stock characters are headed, because it's the same way they've been going since the invention of television itself.

The characters of the older writers are funnier than the young ones, but the show spends all this time saying that the young writers know better. So far, they don't.

I like most of the cast, but the ones playing the "actors" are horny or stupid, and it feels like nothing's progressed beyond "Three's Company" The writing sets up a joke that you know how it's going to end, because we've seen it all before. Several times. For years. Decades.

They're trying to be edgy and current, but they aren't.

The Matt LeBlanc show "Episodes" is much fresher than this.

Instead of being called "Reboot" they should rename this show "Rehash"

Promising

I am surprised at how much I liked E1. The meta aspect of this show (Hulu, Yale Drama) makes it much funnier than anticipated. Johnny Knoxville isn't as annoying as I've always thought him to be since his days on Jackass; in fact, and I can't believe I'm saying this, his part seems perfect for him and he plays the character well! Judy Greer is always great and I'll finally get to see if Keegan is the great actor (instead of just sketch comedy) his pedigree projects. I'm looking forward to seeing how the show evolves over the next couple episodes and will update this review at the end of the season, if I get to the end of it. Fingers crossed!

Update: I finished S1 last week without knowing it was the end of the season. Went to find it this week, and man am I bummed it's over. This show has a lot of heart as it progresses. Really really hope it's renewed and we get more than 8 episodes a season! I increased my rating from 7 to 9.

Worth the watch for more than one reason

If you grew up in the late 70's to the early 90's you saw many formulaic shows like the one this show originally was before the reboot because that's what TV gave us. In some ways this show is both a walk down memory lane and another funny look at the distasteful underbelly of the entertainment industry.

While they don't give that take on the industry quite as well as Matt LeBlanc's show Episodes did, I found that the jokes landed and the pain between the characters was deep enough to enjoy the subtle drama.

If you didn't experience the earlier days of TV you might not feel the quaint and funny aspects of the show. Then again they somewhat poke fun of the with the young Hulu exec who is the "VP of Comedy" quoting research on hyper specific demographics.

It was fun for me and I'll keep watching.

Same old Same old

You've seen this show before. Trust me. Critics that are giving high marks for this show are on crack. If you saw Episodes or The Comeback you've seen this show. Nothing very original and nothing that makes me give a crap about the characters. The thing that the creators of Reboot did well w Modern Family was give me characters I wanted to know. Phil or Cam were people I could relate too. Reboot doesn't have that feeling. I could care less about the characters. A lot of Reboot is using language to fill gaps for, I guess, shock? Most jokes fall flat. The director seems grossly fascinated with showing the two female leads w tops off. Really you've seen this show, boring bland.

I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised at how well this show is. Good writing, decent jokes and the actors are doing a great job. Normally I hate most American made sit coms/comedies, as they are mostly hammy and working with a tired framework, but there is a freshness about this. There is no laugh track to this, which I think is great and the fact your not told when laugh

Of each episode I have had at least two or three laugh out loud moments, and one or two chuckles, which is another big positive.

I have only seen three episodes so far but the characters and dialogue, and writing are done well..I really hope it keeps it up.

This show is so amazing. I love the entire cast. I love the story lines. I love the writers room. I love the contrast of boomers and millenials, both of whom I relate to. I could go on and on. There are so many shows I'll have on in the background while I mess around on my phone or do chores. I have a show on in the background while I write this review. Also, I hate internet attention, and this is the first review I've written for anything online. Oh, and I have adhd. For a show to take my whole attention, that says something. This show got my whole attention, from the start. It reminds me of the show Episodes, which was also amazing, and cancelled waaaaaay before it should have been. Why is intelligent entertainment always murdered before its time? REBOOT REBOOT!

Hollywood navel gazing

Hannah Korman (Rachel Bloom) is pitching a TV show to Hulu executives. She wants to reboot an early 2000 sitcom called Step Right Up. Reed Sterling (Keegan-Michael Key), Clay Barber (Johnny Knoxville), Zack Jackson (Calum Worthy), and Bree Marie Jensen (Judy Greer) are the original cast returning to do the reboot. Elaine Kim (Krista Marie Yu) is a young TV executive. Gordon (Paul Reiser) is Hannah's father who ran the original show.

It's good, but something keeps holding me back. I may be a little tired of Hollywood navel gazing. Also, I'm not a big fan of Hannah. I do grow to like her more with Gordon's arrival. He really helps elevate the material with better comedy. This gets cancelled after only one season of eight episodes. It's just finding its footing.

A Very Good Show

I was wondering why I passed on watching it so many times, then I saw Johnny Knoxville was in it. I figured it would be his usual lowbrow, punch in the crotch, fart joke shctick. I was wrong. This is such a good show.

Well written, funny, emotional, engaging. Probably the best new show since Only Murders in the Building - dare I say, perhaps better? I'll hold off on judgement until the end of the season. I think what I love the most is the layers of comedy, such as one of the actor's relationships with another actor's mother. It just keeps building and there's a little something for everyone, for me, that's the one that keeps bringing me to the laugh out loud point throughout the show.

Definitely worth a watch!

More Paul Reiser please

I have high hopes for "Reboot," as the premise seems original and the cast is jam packed with funny and outrageous actors. Kerri Kenney in the early episodes is a hoot! And we get to witness "Jackass's" acting chops which is decent. The creme de la creme is of course Mr. Paul Reiser. I look forward to every scene that he is in, and he gives you what you are waiting for: the snide looks, passive-aggressive bite, and most of all, just being a funny comedian delivering his funny lines. The plot towards the middle unfortunately cannot keep up with his greatness. We get some boring fillers that have nothing to do with the original hook of the show. Overall, this is fun but loses a bit of steam, so don't expect anything ground-breaking like the "The Office" or "Seinfeld."

Let's remake something original.

First off, that line alone was the funniest I heard on any show in a long while. And it sums up this show to a T. Can't decide if this is a straight parody of the Laugh-tracked, spoon-fed joke filled sitcoms of old or even new (I'm looking at you, The Neighborhood!). So far after three episodes I am loving this show. The jokes are not set up a mile away and predictible. Thank God there is no laugh track. Canned laughter is the worst, even on good shows. The entire cast is great. A special shout out to Kerri Kenney, whom I've loved since The State and Reno 911. There were times I laughed out loud and that is rare for me with shows today. Looking forward to seeing more.

Created by Steven Levitan (Just Shoot Me!, Modern Family) and produced (as well as starring) Keegan-Michael Keys, Reboot is a tv show about a tv show, this time a rebooted fictional sitcom for Hulu as the old cast comes back together many years later. Fairly funny lighthearted entertainment, I wouldn't say the series breaks the mold in any degree, but does well for what it is, providing some commentary on the television sitcom format and creating some fun relationships between the many characters. There are however many characters, without any really taking a 'lead' role of sorts, and as they spread out the backstories across its only 8 episode first season we don't particularly get much depth to any of their personalities. Most of the actors seems to basically play some version of themselves, and I thought they could have done more with the writers room and executives behind the scenes, which were my favourite parts. If you're a fan of any of these actors its a good show to flip on for a quick escape, and I'll likely check out season 2 if it ever rolls around. Pretty good, but not amazing.

Hilarious (no laugh tracks and goofy jokes needed)

I'm only one episode in and I already know this show is going to be great. Glad I decided to give it a watch and looking forward to how all of this plays out. Reboot is well-written and seriously funny. If you like shows or movies like..hmm..let's see... I'd say The Office, Abbott Elem, Office Space, Single Parents, etc, then I'm pretty sure this will be straight up your alley. Over the top, slapstick humor, isn't always necessary and so I'm glad they created a smart comedy that doesn't always go for a cheap punchline.

Alright, time for the next episode. Reboot is definitely binge worthy so enjoy it!

It's good. Expected a drama, got a lower key 30 Rock.

It's a fun show that definitely made me laugh more than a few times. It really does feel like a modern sitcom about creating an old school sitcom. The dialogue is well written and the conflict about old vs new leads to interesting scenarios.

But I think what knocks it down a peg for me is that there was a chance for something more biting and edgy but leans more into comedy and positive conclusions (which maybe unintentionally fits the narrative bc the premise was Hannah trying to create a gritty reboot and Gordan coming in to make it more light hearted).

But it makes the dynamics and scenarios less interesting than they could have been because of it. I don't want to spoil anything but there are a few characters who are told to have a bad past but they act much more mature and caring than you'd expect to fit the tone.

And some aspects that seem like they'll be dramatic issues just kind of resolve quick. Maybe I was expecting this to be more Bojack Horseman instead of a straight forward comedy.

While it isn't as clever or unique as it, if you like 30 Rock I think you'll enjoy this. It's definitely much more grounded focusing on realistic characters and scenarios than 30 Rock's do anything for the joke mentality.

Goes nowhere.

There's no center to what's nothing more than a series of tepid, ineffectual skits based on themes such as... old comic writers v young diverse comic writers; a woman's first time with another woman; a man with a co-worker's mom; a man's lingering attraction to a co-worker; a woman's problems working with her absent father. Nothing goes anywhere. The cast leans towards the sluggish elderly. The 'comedy' involves things like an older person not understanding the slang someone younger used, and looking it up on their phone. That's it. That's the 'joke.' Or we go through a tedious attempt by one of the cast to break up with a castmate's mother. That's it. That's the 'comedy.'

What can they possibly be thinking?

So far so good- interesting take, good casting.

First, I love the case. Each character really fits. Don't love the grown up kid but I think that's kinda intentional. It's a great mix of people.

I'd like a tad more background on the actual show- even just 2 minutes on how long it was on, more about the plot. Like did Johnny Knoxville still live with them after a divorce and she remarried? What's going on.

It does a great job of addressing the different generations and what's funny, inappropriate, offensive etc.

Great mix of going between the actors and the writers, the show and reality.

Some parts aren't great as with any show and it's "growing pains". Speaking of, all the episodes are named after sitcoms. Kinda clever.

3 episodes are out. I hope it continues and just gets better as we get to know the characters more instead of just their more extreme personas.

Definitely worth checking out.

Cancelled, why?

I loved this show... great premise, writing and cast. It uses the views of an old-school writer's room with present ones to create funny conflicts. (Every time some behind-the-scenes cluster broke out I'd wonder if that happened behind the scenes of Modern Family.) The storylines between characters were funny and engaging, and all the actors bring their A game. Nobody seems to be going through the motions.

Netflix, Prime, Hulu, HBO, premium networks, anyone with a studio, PLEASE pick up this series before the cast and crew move on to other projects.

This show has many great storylines that could stay interesting and funny for years.
