Run of the mill

Decent story, decent director, but blend results. The story har been done before, paranormal investigators arrive att a pretty intriguing house with a dark past. From then on it's all shaky hand-held cameras, and screams in the night. Not the first, or last, of its kind. But the bandwagon has left, and some reinventioning is necessary to keep me awake. Still this was apparently made for tv and might limp along for a while as a night re-run.

Average Haunted Film

It's not as bad as some others have written. People are overly harsh on horror more than any other genre. I love horror, love scary buildings, ghosts stories, people getting picked off one by one; truly not hard to please. With all that said this movie is very average. The acting was believable, the characters were interesting and the lore behind the manor was developed well.

However and maybe it was for budget reasons but this movie leans a bit too far into the drama and not enough into the horror. It was about 50 minutes in before we were done with the drama, which isn't too above average but it did feel dragged out. Maybe it just wasn't interesting enough to care. The movie wouldn't have changed if they cut out the divorce storyline.

That aside the spirits themselves were cool. Not a lot of graphics to be critical of, more make up work and audio. Also not a complaint.

Personally I enjoyed House on Haunted Hill, Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum. Hell House LLC, Interior 2014, the sequel The Devil's Toy Box 2017, or The House on Haunted Hill 2018, Eloise 2016, St. Osmund's 2013 to name a few more than Harland Manor. Though some of those are found footage films and I know many ppl take issue with those so be warned.

A horror movie or scary movie is supposed to be scary. This movie isn't. If you're a horror fan you've probably seen it all before in much better performances. Better skip this one.

Then the movie started. Then it was more like oh, no, what have they done? First of all I watch one movie there every day. You would think they would have figured out what not to do. WRONG! Let me start with my number one peeve. Excessive deep breathing by a character that goes on and on and on. I guess "Oh, I'm terrified". NO! More like is the person having a asthma attack. Extremely stupid character: are you okay, are you okay, guess what is coming next in a horror movie. Yep! I gave it a two because I like Tubi. I couldn't finish it. Maybe next time.

Dumb characters made to die

Why is it in a horror movie when you see the ghosts you hang around for more? I mean when the ghost has already revealed itself to you on more than one instance and you got enough stuff for your show, why do you egg the ghost to come on and show themselves again? Did they expect the ghosts to come in and do a full fledged broadway musical for them? Serves the characters right! They poor ghosts got tired of all the noise in their haven and had to off these pathetic beings. Kudos to the ghosts!

Bland and tasteless.

This movie is very cliche. Main characters are very stereotypical. Supporting characters on the other hand does not have any depth to them. The build up for the story and the characters took so long but had no substantial impact on the ending of the story itself.

Not bad, not great.

While I wouldn't tell anyone to not watch this film, I would say that it has issues. The film presents the team as professional paranormal investigators. They are anything but. It turns into a series of face palm events so that it becomes more frustrating to watch. While there are some creepy moments, they quickly become overshadowed by the idiotic way the team goes about the investigation, especially when things become dangerous. So, if you like this kind of movie it may be worth watching.

Harland Manor

Steven R. Monroe has several movies up as Tubi Originals -- First Person Shooter, Unborn and Teardrop -- and he's best known for the remake of I Spit on Your Grave and the sequel.

Along with co-writer John Thaddeus, he's telling the story of The Spirit Chasers, a reality show team of ghost hunters made up of Jeanie (Camille Sullivan), Evan (Dion Johnstone), Gilroy (Jeremy Walmsley) and Zeke (Jonathan Lawrence), as they try to find the perfect ending to their season.

They find Harland Manor. Seeing as how this place once was home to so many murders and illegal abortions, you can only imagine the orbs floating around. This is also the kind of haunted environment filled with ghosts, like the infernal Harland himself as well as a young specter named Sarah (Summer H. Howell) who is with child. The child of Satan!

Perhaps a haunted underground abortion clinic is not the best place for Jeanie, who just miscarried the child of one of her fellow Spirit Chasers the night before, but look. I know better than to chase after evil. I'm content with sitting on my couch and not needing to have any paranormal adventures, thank you very much.
