Escaping from the alienation of urban life
francicicca30 August 2022
The film is set in a not-so-unrealistic dystopian future where huge buildings are abandoned by residents and taken over by tourists. The protagonist holds a cleaning job, and commutes regularly from the emptied city center to her home. Fully alienated, she starts following the call of the wild, becoming one with nature. The film reflects on urban alienation and on how the way urban life is organised makes and will keep making us feeling distant from our deeper instincts and needs. Filling one's house with plants or going on a trip in a natural landscape seems to be not enough, as it still reflects a way of viewing nature as a commodity. Returning TO BE nature, rather than simply to nature, seems to be the only way out.
