Spring Stampede 1999 Thoughts

Spring Stampede 1999 was a PPV event produced by WCW. It took place on April 11, 1999 at the Tacoma Dome in Tacoma, Washington. The event sold out with attendence of 17,690 fans. The event is notable for the world title win of Diamond Dallas Page and is also considered by many fans & critcs to be the last great PPV the WCW ever produced. It was by far WCW's best PPV of 1999.

9 matches took place on the card with the main event being a Four Corners Match featuring Hogan, DDP, Ric Flair, and Sting with Randy Savage as the ref. We also had 2 other Championship matches with one being the conclusion of a tournament to crown the US champion after being vacant for weeks. Another major storyline involved Goldberg battling the man who ended his streak, Kevin Nash.

The Good - Majority of the card turned out to be good and most of the matches of the middle and end of the show were good. DDP winning the main event felt really special and the crowd was on fire for it. The main event at the end was a great closure. Goldberg despite the terrible ending to the Streak months prior to this show actually had a good moment of defeating Kevin Nash. Rey Mysterio vs. Kidman and the opening were also a fun and they all really had chemistry. The tag match also made for a great match with the dirty and intense heat going on.

The Meh - The Hardcore match nearly started to get ruined by the repeated blows but it at the end was fun. The U. S title match was also not the good. I feel it would have been more interesting as an opening or a TV match. Scott Steiner honestly wasn't someone I could click with.

The Bad - Mikey Whipwreck vs. Scotty Riggs was an absolute dud. The crowd chanted boring and I agreed. This match wasn't even originally set on the card and it had no reason to be on as it was just a 7 minute squash match. Konnan vs. Disco was also Lackluster. I also might question Hogan being written with a storyline injury to exit hims off the match for storyline plans.

Overrall - It was a good show. I don't think of it as a must-watch or a favorite of 99 but definitely an enjoyable show none the less. Thumbs Up

Score - 7 out of 10: Good

That was really great PPV from WCW!

Warning: Spoilers
First at all I have to say, there was pre-recorded crowd "noise". Fuc*ink shame....

1. Blitzkrieg Vs. Juventid Guerrera - Jeez, Blitz is like MYsterio on cocaine. Juvi finishing with Juvi Driver from turnbuckle! 9/10

2. Bam Bam Bigelow Vs. Hak - Hak did some suicidal saults. Another finisher from turnbuckle! Greetings from Asbury park. Hey, it's almost Juvi Driver :D 8.5/10

3. Scotty Riggs Vs. Mikey Whipwreck - Whipwreck wasn't so bad, but there were some "boring" chants and I was bored too. 6/10

Oh no, Konnan on PPV...

4. Konnan Vs. Disco Inferno - The only thing that was good, how Disco was mocking Stiffan. Do you recognized how Disco never get victory on PPV :/ I recommended Konnan's dance after match, so embarrassing I couldn't call 6.5/10

5. WCW Cruiserweight Title Match: Kidman Vs. Champ-Rey Mysterio Jr. - Kings of wrestling in 1999. Rey retained. 10/10

6. Chris Benoit/Dean Malenko Vs. Raven/Perry Saturn - Another exciting high quality match. Raven lost.... again. I was impressed, how crowd cheered for Raven in a big way. 10/10

7. Finals of WCW U.S Heavyeight Title Tournament: Booker T. Vs. Scott Steiner - Steiner was the baddest ass ever! He must had bad day he attacked all the fans near the ring. And won... 8.5/10

8. Kevin Nash Vs. Goldberg - I think that Nash didn't practice well, he was terrible worker in that time. But Big Booker! I give him credit, he jobbed to Goldberg. It is important to told, that it was maybe for his World Heavyweight championship month later. For Nash's clean losing I give 8/10

9. WCW World Heavyweight Title Match: Diamond Dallas Page Vs. Champ-Ric Flair Vs. Sting Vs. Hulk Hogan - Classic one, fine that Hogan is outta match in the first efw minutes, then DDP finally gets his first WCW title reign. 8.5/10
