Definitely fell short of entertaining me...

Right, well I figured that I would sit down and watch the 2021 Filipino romantic comedy "Love at First Stream" as it was a movie that I hadn't already seen. Nor had I actually ever heard about the movie prior to sitting down to watch it.

I must admit that I was expecting this to be a run-of-the-mill romantic comedy. You know, those that come a dime a dozen; girl meets boy, girl dislikes boy, girl starts to have feeling for boy, girl falls in love with boy, and girl gets boy.

However, writers Kookai Labayen, Isabella Policarpio, Ella A. Palileo and Cathy Garcia-Molina actually managed to put together a storyline that differed from the usual generic formula that many romantic comedies tend to follow. And that was definitely something that counted for something.

But the storyline was not one that I enjoyed. Why? Well, because I simply have zero interest in Vloggers and their self-absorbed demeanors and self-promoting ways. Nothing about the Vlog culture and the pathetic desire to upload videos of one-self on social media platforms have any appeal to me. So I must say that "Love at First Stream" was a swing and a miss.

I simply gave up on the storyline about halfway through. By then I just couldn't take any more of what director Cathy Garcia-Molina was dishing out.

The acting performances in the movie were fair enough. Needless to say that given my limited exposure to Filipino cinema means that I was not familiar with the cast ensemble in this movie.

"Love at First Stream" is not a movie that I will ever return to attempt to finish watching, simply because the whole Vlogging thing has zero appeal to me.

My rating of "Love at First Stream" lands on a generous three out of ten stars, and that is based on the production value of the movie and the acting performances, not on the storyline, nor on its entertainment value. I am sure, though, there is a younger audience out there for a movie such as "Love at First Stream".

Terrible plotline

Terrible plotline, terrible acting. Nothing original here. Was forced to watch it because the partner wanted to see this. Took so much self control to stop myself from gouging my eyes out. The music was ok. Who writes rubbish like this and who approves it? They definitely have no experience with dealing with real human beings otherwise they wouldn't have made such two dimensional characters. People fight over one person hugging another. They cry over nothing. They are bad to each other and selfish. Very bad example for impressionable kids who watch it.

Complete waste of time. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Not for everyone - unless you can connect with the dynamics of social media and streaming

I'm giving this an eight, because we had a great time watching this together with my 11-year old and 16-year old kids. They likely connected with the dynamics of social media and streaming, and how these aspects intertwine with money, fame, and ambition nowadays. I watched this movie without any high expectations and I was surprised to find myself enjoying it.

This is definitely not for everyone, as it introduces an unconventional plotline compared to local teenage romance flicks. Moreover, this film is more than just a romantic flick; it can also be seen as a family movie that portrays the idea of unconditional support and love.

I love the Cathy Garcia-Molina touch in this movie. Her films consistently present not just one side of the story but also provide dialogues that help us relate to the characters, empathize for a moment, sympathize, and provoke reflection afterward. Then, when we hear the other side of the story, we go through the same process. There are various examples, but my favorite was the confrontation scene between V and her mother.

I truly appreciated how the characters were developed; they weren't one-dimensional like what we usually see in typical local films. This evoked various emotions in me, leading me to believe that the film effectively achieved its objectives. The characters were well-cast, and the acting was above average, especially considering that I wasn't very familiar with most of the main characters.

Again, it's not for everybody, but if you're looking for something unconventional and a good production, if you love (or can relate to) vlogs and the streaming culture, and if you're seeking more than just a typical love story, I would recommend this to you.

It's lonely at the top, kung mag isa ka.

I watched this with no expectations as I was not familiar with these actors & I was just intrigued because I saw it was directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina. BUT, this movie made me felt a lot of emotions, in the most unexplainable way. I can't explain it cus I don't want to spoil. All of the actors did an amazing job! When I said "all" I really meant ALL OF THEM! I now officially have a HUGE crush on Tupe. Lol! You'll know if you watch 😉 The SOUNDTRACK omg idk for me most fil movies' soundtrack don't give justice. For me, it's really important but this. They gave justice. It's a gem!

++ while watching, I thought that it must be nice. To have someone that will support you & love you unconditionally. And, nandyan. Nandyan lang yung mga tao na magmamahal at susuporta s'atin kailangan lang natin tignan ng mabuti.

I highly recommend this movie!

I hate this movie!!
meepsonic6 September 2022
Filipino movies are so cringy to watch, and I don't like it. Hated because I don't like their characters who's always looking on the phone for one of their live streams, but also they're dating each other which means they're inviting people to go on. This movie promotes harassment, and cyber bullying. This movie made me boring because of the violent reaction to social medias, like doing some dangerous stuff, pranking somebody, and do whatever they want. I hate living in the Philippines because I was not very interested watching movies only in the philippines. I might rather go back to USA!! I rate 1 out of 10 cause i hate it. The moral of the story is, appropriate boundaries and how to connect a romantic partner.
