Charlie Hunnam will star in “Monster” Season 3 at Netflix as notorious serial killer Ed Gein.
Series co-creator Ryan Murphy made the announcement onstage during a promotional event in Los Angeles for “Monster” Season 2, which focuses on the Menendez brothers and the murder of their parents. The first season of the anthology series focused on serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer.
Gein, who also hailed from Wisconsin like Dahmer, became infamous in the 1950s when authorities discovered that he not only had killed multiple people, but had dug up graves from a cemetery near his home and fashioned all manner of household items and clothing from human remains. Gein’s case served as an inspiration for several major pop culture characters later on, including Norman Bates in “Psycho” and Buffalo Bill in “Silence of the Lambs.”

Filmmaker Zack Snyder made a name for himself with hit movies such as 300 and Man of Steel. Snyder’s most recent offering is the two-part space opera Rebel Moon, which was heavily inspired and originally started off as a pitch for a Star Wars movie, which never materialized and eventually landed at Netflix.
A director’s cut of Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon was released on Netflix.
Despite being critically panned, Rebel Moon did one thing right by cleverly avoiding a trope that has become seriously overused in Star Wars. In an interview, Snyder spoke about the trend that has been repeated over and over again, explaining his reasoning behind altering it. Here is what Snyder had to say about Star Wars‘ most nonsensical and overused trope.

Zack Snyder is a divisive figure in the filmmaking industry, with a devoted fan following that genuinely appreciates his art. However, not every project of his managed to garner critical acclaim, including Rebel Moon. Stepping away from the superhero genre, the filmmaker brought a unique sci-fi vision to the big screen, which essentially found its audience on the streaming platform.

As the movie is set to release an extended cut, Synder got candid about his dual-release strategy, which might sway opinions on his creative choices.

Zack Snyder is back with the director’s cut of his latest sci-fi epic.
Both “Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood” and “Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness” will be released on Netflix on Aug. 2.
“Prepare to witness Zack Snyder’s true vision,” reads the R-rated trailer, which is full of bloody violence, sex and galactic warfare.
“In Snyder’s director’s cut, a peaceful settlement on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, and Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival,” according to the Netflix logline. “Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Motherworld, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war who share a common need for redemption and revenge.

The “elevated” psychological thriller The Surfer, starring Nicolas Cage (who can currently be seen on the big screen in Longlegs), received a six minute standing ovation when it screened at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and now Deadline reports that a wider audience will have the chance to watch this ovation-inspiring film when Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions give it a theatrical release sometime in 2025.
Lorcan Finnegan (Vivarium) directed The Surfer from a screenplay by Thomas Martin. Here’s the synopsis: When a man (Cage) returns to his beachside hometown in Australia, many years since building a life for himself in the U.S., he is humiliated in front of his teenage son by a local gang of surfers who claim strict ownership over the secluded beach of his childhood. Wounded, “The Surfer” decides to remain at the beach, declaring war against those in control of the bay. But as the conflict escalates,...

In 2023, Zack Snyder brought to life an original idea that he had envisioned, in the first part of the space film titled Rebel Moon-Part One: A Child Of Fire. Though the film divided audiences and critics, its fortunes changed tremendously when it was picked up to stream on Netflix, which then saw part 2 of the film titled The Scargiver releasing in April 2024, a week after its theatrical run.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon franchise is reportedly fading into the background as its director may have found a much more inspiring project to put his focus on at the moment.
Snyder’s recent revelations were pretty clear about his determined intention to expand his epic space opera franchise’s universe by yet another bunch of sequels, though now the director’s other flick is getting more attention and thus has more chances to receive updates than the failed film series.
According to Variety reports, Snyder’s 2006 epic historical action movie 300 is about to get a prequel series, and Snyder is in talks regarding his return to the story as director and executive producer.
No plot details of the future show have been revealed so far, yet it’s pretty clear that the upcoming installment will take viewers back to earlier times before Gerard Butler’s Leonidas and his...

Zack Snyder unveiled today with Netflix that his Rebel Moon movies are getting directors cuts –and new titles– Rebel Moon – Chapter One: Chalice of Blood and Rebel Moon – Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness. Both are happening on Netflix on Aug. 2.
The original movies were titled Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire (debuted on Dec. 15) and the second was entitled Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver (which dropped on April 19). Between the two they brought in over 95M global viewers per the Netflix published top 10 charts, although Snyder himself in an interview with Joe Rogan believes Part One was watched by at least 160M people.
“So you think if that movie was in the theater as a distribution model, that’s like 160 million people supposedly watching based on that math,” Snyder told Rogan back in March. “160 million people at $10 a ticket would be…what is that math?...

After releasing his two-part “Rebel Moon” sci-fi epic on Netflix, Zack Snyder’s director’s cut is nearly here — and it will have two new titles.

Originally released as “Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire” and “Part Two: The Scargiver,” the director’s cuts will be called “Rebel Moon — Chapter One: Chalice of Blood” and “Chapter Two: Curse of Forgiveness.”

Charlie Hunnam has been cast in the lead role of the series adaptation of “Criminal” at Amazon Prime Video, Variety has learned.
“Criminal” is based on the graphic novels of the same name by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips. The official description states that the series is “an interlocking universe of crime stories.”
Hunnam will star as Leo. The character is described as “A brilliant master thief who sees all the angles, and specializes in plans with no guns and no violence. Like a chess player, Leo thinks three moves ahead. Other crooks think he’s a coward, especially compared to his father Tommy, who went to jail for murdering the most feared man in the city, Teeg Lawless.”
Hunnam joins previously announced cast members Adria Arjona, Richard Jenkins, and Kadeem Hardison in the series.
This is not the first time Hunnam has starred as a criminal in a TV series or film.

We’ve known from the start that director Zack Snyder intended to released extended director’s cuts of his movies Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (read our review Here) and Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver (read our review of that one Here), which were rated PG-13 in their shorter form. At the start of this month, we learned that the director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part One has been given a R rating for brutal bloody violence and gore, sexual content, graphic nudity and language. Now the Motion Picture Association ratings board has revealed that the director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part Two has been rated R for strong bloody violence and gore throughout, strong sexuality, nudity and some language.

With all of its growing popularity among the world’s viewers, Netflix is still not having the best times right now as its biggest premieres turned out to be the streaming’s biggest disasters ever seen.
It all started even back in 2023, when Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire hit the platform in December, and now it seems like Netflix’s highly anticipated flicks are jeopardized by the epic space opera franchise’s curse.
Though Snyder’s flops sank into oblivion as soon as they left the streaming’s top 10 chart, their fate is nonetheless repeated by a brand new sci-fi movie that, despite its reign in the top chart, appears to be even worse.

Following a limited theatrical release, director Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (read our review Here) was released through the Netflix streaming service back in December, then Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver (read our review of that one Here) reached the service last month… but we’ve known from early on that these PG-13 versions of the movies wouldn’t be the only versions we’d see. Snyder has also put together extended director’s cut of both films, which will each have around an hour of additional footage. They’re expected to be released through Netflix sometime this summer, possibly in August, and the director’s cut of Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire just got its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board. It earned an R for brutal bloody violence and gore, sexual content, graphic nudity and language.

Zack Snyder’s “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver” debuted on Netflix on April 19. Critical pans aside (IndieWire’s David Ehrlich called Part Two “almost as disastrous” as Part One and gave it a D. Perhaps David’s the real “Scargiver.”), the sequel to the 2023 “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire” became the streamer’s biggest film (in any language) for the week of April 15-21. It was watched for 44.2 million hours; based on its 2:04 runtime, Netflix translates that to 21.4 million views.
On the March 6 episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Snyder said “Rebel Moon — Part One” was seen by more people (on Netflix) than the smash-hit “Barbie” (in theaters).

Zack Snyder promised a spectacle with his Rebel Moon franchise following his collaboration with Netflix. After the critical bomb in the first part of Rebel Moon, the sequel followed the same fate. Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver was finally released on Netflix and many critics think that it is just as bad, if not worse, than the first film.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire debuted on Netflix on December 15, 2023, with Part Two: The Scargiver following on April 19.
Both movies received extremely bad reviews from both critics and fans (Part One currently holds a 21% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes with Part Two being even lower at 15%), with many being able to point out the exact criticisms that ultimately hurt them.

Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver might have debuted at #1 on the English Films List for Netflix’s Top 10 with 21.4 million views, but it wasn’t enough to top the original or stand against other films on the popular streaming service. When Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire debuted in December, the Star Wars-like action film gained 23.9 million views during its opening window. While the gap between both films isn’t staggering, one has to wonder why more people failed to tune in for the continuation of Snyder’s story.

Regardless of the sequel’s opening salvo, 5.5 million viewers returned to Rebel Moon—Part One: A Child of Fire to familiarize themselves with the original before watching the sequel. With two major sci-fi sequels debuting this week to lead the VOD and Netflix charts, the new films also inspired victory laps for the Part Ones of “Dune” and “Rebel Moon.”
“Dune: Part Two” (Warner Bros.) leads at both iTunes and Fandango, and Netflix’s original “Rebel Moon — Part Two: The Scargiver” is #1 at the streamer. iTunes packaged the 2021 “Dune: Part One” with its sequel as a $34.99 purchase, and it ranks second there. (“Dune: Part Two” alone rents for 48 hours for $24.99.) “Rebel Moon — Part One” returned at #7 on Netflix’s top 10.
Three other recent theatrical releases also transitioned to home viewing, with curiously different pricing and availability strategies. The top grosser is Neon’s “Immaculate” (approaching $16 million), but it rents for the lowest price: $9.99. “Late Night with the Devil” (IFC) is $14.99, but for that price consumers own it. “In the Land of Saints and Sinners” (Goldwyn) with Liam Neeson is a standard $19.99 rental.
Zack Snyder made waves during a March appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” when he claimed that his critically panned space opera “Rebel Moon — Part One: A Child of Fire” was seen by more people when it dropped on Netflix than “Barbie” was during its massive theatrical run. The comments earned him plenty of criticism from cinephiles who felt that he was minimizing the importance of movie theaters, but the director is standing by the math that led him to make the claim.
“You think about Netflix, for instance, where you push a button. ‘Rebel Moon,’ right? Say right now, it’s like almost 90 million views… 80 or 90 million accounts turned it on, give or take,” Snyder said at the time. “They assume two viewers per screen, right? That’s the math… so that’s 160 million people supposedly watching. One hundred and sixty million people at $10 a ticket, that’s $1.6 billion.

Following a limited theatrical release, director Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon: Part One – A Child of Fire (read our review Here) was released through the Netflix streaming service back in December. Viewers will get the chance to find out what happens in the second half of the story when Rebel Moon: Part Two – The Scargiver reaches the service this Friday – and while doing press for that film, Snyder confirmed that a Rebel Moon 3 is already in the works. But he doesn’t intend to wrap this franchise up as a trilogy. In the end, he thinks there could be a total of 4 to 6 Rebel Moon movies!
Speaking with Radio Times, “We absolutely have the story (for Rebel Moon 3) all set, we did all that work. We wrote a treatment for the movie so we’ll see how we go ahead. … I guess (a total of) 4 makes sense. 4 or 6 movies,...

Rebel Moon Part Two arrives on Netflix this week – and Zack Snyder confirms that his plans for a third film are ongoing.
At a point when Netflix is reportedly steering away from ‘auteur’ films to audience movies – as if those two things have to be different – it’s also on the verge of releasing the second of director Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon films.
The first part, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child Of Fire had something of a mixed reception at best. This weekend we get Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver, and then we get after that director’s cuts of both films.
In spite of the middling response, Zack Snyder mentioned at the end of last year that he’s planning more films in the saga, and he’s doubled down on that in new interview with Forbes.

"I have no choice... but to fight!" Here we go again. Netflix has launched the main official trailer for Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver, the finale of Zack Snyder's sci-fi saga. The first half, Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire, is now playing on Netflix worldwide after launching in December last year. There is also supposedly an R-rated "Director's Cut" arriving sometime soon (maybe better to wait for that). Rebel Moon is an original Zack Snyder creation, a Star Wars-esque sci-fi thriller about a ragtag team of rebels. In a universe controlled by a corrupt militaristic government, the moon of Veldt is threatened by the Imperium, the army of the Mother World controlled by "Regent Balisarius". Sofia Boutella stars as Kora, a former Imperium fighter who rallies warriors from across the galaxy to fight back. Part Two features an ensemble cast lead by Djimon Hounsou,...

There's still a rebellion to be won and an Imperium to overcome, so Kora (Sofia Boutella) and her plucky band of fighters are readying for war in the new trailer for "Rebel Moon -- Part Two: The Scargiver." The second half of this sci-fi epic from director Zack Snyder is hitting Netflix just a few months after the first chapter, "Rebel Moon -- Part One: A Child of Fire," since the two films were originally envisioned as one (until the script's anticipated runtime became unwieldy) and were shot back-to-back.
"Movie one is about collecting the team, and movie two is about the war and why we fight," is how Snyder summed things up in a recent interview with SFX magazine, in which he also revealed that the four-month gap between the movies was too long for his liking. "I wanted them out, like, a month apart, because I just felt...

Zack Snyder’s braggadocio reaches new heights as the director argues to Joe Rogan that his movie Rebel Moon did better in theaters than Barbie.
“According to him, Netflix’s whole distribution model is so ‘crazy’ that he thinks more people have probably seen his movie Rebel Moon—Part One: A Child Of Fire than Barbie (when it was in theaters)—due to Netflix’s ubiquity and the fact that you can just throw something on without having to go out to a theater and buy a separate ticket. Veteran director Zack Snyder had a not-so-great 2023 due to the almost hilarious failure of his magnum opus Rebel Moon: Part One. With the director working on the movie for almost a decade, it all came down to Netflix views and the total runtime of the film.
Well, in a recent interview, Snyder tried to defend his movie by using math. Calculating the views and multiplying that with the average movie ticket, Zack Snyder claims that Rebel Moon: Part One earned more than Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s Barbie!

Math has always been a controversial approach to solving anything non-scientific. Talking about how Zack Snyder calculated Rebel Moon’s earnings if the movie were released in theaters instead of Netflix, the director thought he made sense, but he actually didn’t.

Sofia Boutella is striking back at the critics who “demolished” Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire in their negative reviews of the sci-fi film.
The actress recently opened up to Vulture about her reaction to the rough reviews the Zack Snyder-directed film received last year when it released on Netflix.
“I always thought that I was fully armed to take on those punches, and then I read the critics that came down on Rebel Moon and it really affected me,” Boutella, who plays Kora in the movie, said. “And I’m just gonna be honest about it. I feel like I’m carrying it for everybody that cared so much about this project, and that’s what affected me. Not the way I look. If anything, I’ve been pretty lucky and people like my work in it, but the movie was criticized.”

When it comes to Apple’s Hollywood ambitions, it’s all about spending big to win big.
On March 10, the tech giant has 13 shots to take home an Oscar via two historical epics, “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “Napoleon,” which nabbed 10 and three nominations, respectively. That’s given Apple the second-biggest haul among the major studios and streamers, just behind Netflix’s 18 nods and tied with Universal and Searchlight.
But at what price? Sources say the Martin Scorsese-helmed “Killers” cost an eye-popping $215 million (that includes about $40 million in Covid-related costs). In fact, Apple spent at least $700 million to make and market just three films: “Killers,” Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon” and Matthew Vaughn’s “Argylle.” The trio have earned a combined $466 million worldwide at the box office, with “Napoleon” leading the pack at $221 million, followed by “Killers” ($157 million) and “Argylle” ($88 million).
Apple isn’t complaining, at least not about “Killers” or “Napoleon.

The Oscar-frontrunning “Maestro” was the big winner at the 11th annual Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild Awards (held February 18 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel). Bradley Cooper’s Leonard Bernstein opus took period/character makeup and special makeup effects. This puts “Maestro” in the Oscar driver’s seat (led by two-time winner Kazu Hiro) against “Poor Things,” “Oppenheimer,” “Golda,” and “Society of the Snow.”
Two non-Oscar competitors, “Saltburn”and “Barbie,” split the other wins: Emerald Fennell’s psychological thriller grabbed both contemporary makeup and hairstyling, while Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar blockbuster snagged period/character hairstyling.
TV winners, meanwhile, were divided among “The Idol” (contemporary makeup), “The Crown” (period/character makeup), “The Last of Us” (special makeup effects), “The Morning Show” (contemporary hairstyling), and “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story” (period/character hairstyling).

Spoilers for "Rebel Moon – Part One" follow.
Zack Snyder's sci-fi film "Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire" was released on Netflix on December 23, 2023, to middling reviews and not a lot of ballyhoo. Snyder's usual amount of visual busyness and turgid, adolescent navel-gazing was instantly recognized by the filmmaker's fans and detractors, being enjoyed or hated accordingly. The story of "Rebel Moon" is a straightforward sci-fi version of "Seven Samurai." A grain-harvesting villager named Kora (Sofia Boutella) finds that her home planet has been targeted for plunder by an evil, Nazi-like space empire. Rather than sacrifice their harvest, she gathers together a modest group of desperate warriors, hoping they will have the gumption to fight off the Empire when they arrive for their grain.
"Part One" detailed the gathering of the warriors, which included a roguish scamp (Charlie Hunnam), a former drunk (Djimon Honsou), a sword-wielding...

Rebel Moon Part One: A Child of Fire (read our review Here), the first part of director Zack Snyder’s two-part sci-fi epic, has been available to watch on the Netflix streaming service for over a month, and now we’re getting ready for the April 19th release of the follow-up Rebel Moon Part Two: The Scargiver. With its release date just two months away, Rebel Moon Part Two has received its official rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board: PG-13 for sequences of strong violence, brief strong language and suicide. Also earning a PG-13 rating this week is the Blumhouse horror film Imaginary, which reaches theatres on March 8th. Imaginary got its PG-13 for some violent content, drug material and language.
Neither one of these ratings comes as a surprise. Many Blumhouse movies, from Insidious to Five Nights at Freddy’s, M3GAN, and Night Swim have PG-13 ratings. As for Rebel Moon,...

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” reaped six Visual Effects Society Awards nominations on January 16. No surprise that this blockbuster is the frontrunner for Best Visual Effects at the Oscars. Among its Ves bids is one for visual effects in a photoreal feature, which is the society’s equivalent of Best Picture.
Also in competition for this top Ves award are two of its likeliest rivals for that Oscar: “The Creator” (7 nominations total) and “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” (3 nominations total). Also in the running in the top Ves race are “Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves” (2 nominations total) and “Oppenheimer” (3 nominations total).
Among the other seven films on the Oscar shortlist, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” had the strongest showing with seven Ves nominations. “Napoleon” and “Society of the Snow” each picked up a pair of bids. “Godzilla Minus One” and “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning: Part One” had...
