Really great ep where Brenda does something she never does
MiketheWhistle26 September 2018
I won't spoil it, but this is a really great ep. The guest star is really great, Kyra's daughter does an outstanding job, and Brenda does something that to my best memory is singular for the run of the series. Well worth watching.

Brilliant!
spnorton-479-59033822 March 2023
I find, in general, the writing for The Closer to be some of the absolutely smartest and most brilliant of any TV show! Shows like Hill Street Blues and NYPD Blue and Law and Order, have continually raised the bar for smart "who dunnit" detective dramas, and The Closer, and in particular, this episode, leap over that bar so high, that it hardly seems possible! Everything about this episode, the writing, acting, etc., is simply brilliant. I have fallen in love with this series, and this episode, in particular, is the epitome of what a superior detective TV drama can be. Appealing on so many levels, especially intellectually, make this a "must see" show.

The Best Episode in the Series
gay_myrick18 November 2021
This episode is so good and intense. Pause it! Don't walk away from it. The acting is great, including Sosie Bacon as Brenda's niece, Charlie. It was a family affair with Kevin Bacon directing as well.

I've seen every episode multiple times and this still ranks as the best episode of the series for me.

They will kill you dead

Warning: Spoilers
Truck driver transporting vehicles round trip from Texas to Los Angeles, uses his stops for sixteen murders of young women, originally pursued for the crime by an El Paso lawman. Texas has the death penalty and California doesn't, the El Paso officer secures extradition paperwork on the captured killer, Brenda extracts details of the multiple murders by having him show her his souvenirs at each murder location on a map from Texas to California. He reviews all the gory details as he places the artifacts on the map. He admits to each crime, all sixteen. Brenda had shown the man the number of executions California had compared to Texas, convincing the killer to want to stay put. After several hours of confessing by example with keepsakes, Brenda surprises the man by informing him he is headed to Texas because of the extradition.

Hypothesized the crimes were heinous in nature to have Chief Johnson surrender the man to the El Paso PD for inevitable execution. Another episode where there were little distractions, minutes of action and Brenda's cunning all bring the guilty party to justice.

Thankfully the correct outcome!

Warning: Spoilers
I'm sure not everyone will agree, but I believe Brenda would do a disservice to the families of all the folks this jerk killed between Texas and California. The world will be a better place when he is executed, whether by lethal injection or electricity!

Fortunately, in the end, he will get his just rewards!

As for Charlie, maybe not the best rewards...
