Entertaining but Uneven
sbsieber1 January 2019
I read somewhere that the screenplay for this movie was written with a woman in her mid-twenties in mind for the lead role, and Stone was considered for the role of the mother. Stone made the argument that the story would be more interesting with a more mature woman (her) as the lead. I don't know if it's more interesting, but that certainly explains why her character is so immature and why she is best friends with a young woman almost half her age, and two times more wisdom.

There should have been some extensive re-writing to make this story more believable, and Stone's character less irritating. Come on girl, surely you know this stuff by now!

I was very impressed with the actor who played her love interest - I loved his natural energy and intelligence.

Stone & Goldwyn Have Good Chemistry But Just a Fair Rating For the Film As A Whole
larrys32 May 2018
The chemistry between Sharon Stone and Tony Goldwyn works pretty well here, but I'm wondering, as other reviewers have mentioned, why first time writer and director Susan Walter chose to initially present Stone as a 46-year-old? Since Goldwyn is soon to be 58 in real life just two years her junior (as Stone is 60) , wouldn't it have been even more real and effective to start out presenting Stone's character Senna as a 56-year-old woman, who ages per the film's main premise. She is still so vivacious and beautiful that, at least in my mind, this would have enhanced the film even more.

Overall, I thought parts of this movie were charming and effective while other parts fell flat and were just not believable. Also, the characters were too surfacy for my tastes and never really developed fully. So, a mixed bag for me here and only a fair rating.

All About Sharon
csbaka1 February 2019
All I Wish is clearly a Sharon Stone production. It's Sharon all the way and that's not a bad thing at all. She produced this so you know that her heart, if not her pocketbook is into this. She plays Senna a woman of '47', is what she says in the film, and she's a bit of a bad girl still, having fun with younger men and doing doobies with her younger best friend.

In pops Tony Goldwyn and she falls for the guy, but to me it's clear that he is miscast. I was thinking that if say, Burt Reynolds were the guy there would be much more to go on. Goldwyn's character just isn't attuned to Senna.

The script is clearly not quite there in terms of drama, jump cutting here and there... and although it goes year by year, with every birthday Senna has, the thread is lost somehow. The romance a tad derivative in the end, leaving the players too much on screen time.

The film is too long. Sharon Stone is very good, and one wishes her more screen time in future.

Time Marches On!
lavatch8 May 2018
Warning: Spoilers
By the end of "All I Wish," the viewer has the feeling of having just watched a play in the theater that is overly declamatory and phony. The film's structure is that of a sequence of birthdays in the life of a middle-aged woman. The action is punctuated by a series of soliloquys spoken by the principal characters, as they stare straight into the camera and wax philosophical about their pretentious and rather ordinary lives. But the curtain call for this stagey experience leaves an audience slack-jawed because the work was so bad.

The film was intended as L'chaim, or a toast to life! We learn from the bonus segment of the DVD that the screenplay was twelve years in the making until Sharon Stone took charge of Susan Walter's script and evidently changed the romantic concept from young love to that of a pair of middle-aged characters. Stone's character Senna is described as "a raisin in the sun," an odd image drawn from Lorraine Hansberry's famous play about a hardscrabble black family in Chicago in the 1950s.

By contrast, the characters of "All I Wish" are carefree Los Angelenos, moving in the circles of wealth and fashion in what appears to be the 1980s (no cell phones). As the relationship of Senna and Adam develops, it was difficult to find it plausible that the erratic, creative fashion designer would connect emotionally with a fastidious attorney. The relationship never seemed credible, and it was a stretch to think that the act of marriage would be so significant to Senna that it would tear the couple apart. It was just too hard to find anything that these two characters had in common.

Much of the dialogue seemed forced and artificial with lines like "We all feel inadequate. It's the American way." The most memorable role was that of Senna's mother, as performed by Ellen Burstyn. In the DVD bonus track, Sharon Stone correctly identified the "luminous beauty" of Burstyn that she is able to elicit in almost any role.

From the DVD interview segments, the film was described by the writer-director as a "second act romantic comedy." Unfortunately, both the romance and the comedy were flat. And by the end of the second act, there was not a wet eye in the house at the final curtain.

Disaster
tomhanauer1 July 2020
Not funny, not touching, not clever, not pretty and all of that with a dreadful soundtrack. So technically just a really bad film, but then add in the subject matter; the portrait of a self obsessed drama queen living in a most perverse world created by someone with Hollywood stuck so far up themselves that they have totally lost touch with humanity.

I couldn't figure this movie out.
juneebuggy21 May 2020
I couldn't figure this movie out. It sort of feels like a W movie plot wise, a very silly and predictable romantic comedy with the applicable best friend and situations associated with cookie cutter rom-coms. and then because Sharon Stone is 47-52 but acts an immature 22 (partying, friends half her age, sleeping around, waking up with strange men or on friends couches) I also couldn't decide if this was worth watching. The problem is Sharon Stone and Tony Goldwyn do a great job with theirs roles, so you take them seriously but why they're even in this I'm not sure.

Story follows Stone as a middle aged fashion designer named Senna struggling to find true love and professional success over the course of her birthdays over several years.

Ultimately I enjoyed this, the scenes with Senna and her Mum Ellen Burstyn doing lunch are well done, good chemistry with our couple, a sweet romance and I have to give kudos to both (older) actors, very brave bikini beach volleyball scene for Stone and Mr. President does Karaoke in women's tight, hot pink shorts. They look great. How old is Stone in real life because not a line, blemish or wrinkle in sight, yay Hollywood.

I like pretty much all rom coms.... this was painful.

The sound track was like something off an 80's my little pony

The couple are weird.

Nothing is convincing.

But if you like seriously cheesy movies, that are made for a PG audience. Watch it!

Tony Goldwyn is a God

Story is kind of meh but Tony Goldwyn makes it worth the watch. He brings depth and emotion that draws you in and helps you make it to the end.

This is a truly entertaining movie but I am 68 so what do I know. Everything.
esteemdancers-13 April 2018
I loved this movie. I do not understand the bad reviews and the audience rating here on IMDB. I found this movie so refreshing a change from all the big budget hoopla out there. Something for we lovers of real life being depicted in film and novels. That All I Wish works to the extent that it does is a testament to its star's incredibly appealing performance, in which she seems looser onscreen than she has in years. Given the relatively rare opportunity to showcase her comedic chops, Stone more than lives up to the challenge, somehow making her character's quirkiness charming rather than irritating. Goldwyn, looking relieved to be playing something light after years of melodrama on Scandal, is also enjoyable. All the characters in this film just have chemistry as a cast. I can't get over how great the acting is in this movie and how it could be so enjoyed by such a critic of romantic comedies.

I Love romantic comedies on rainy days and...
ronnawestland7 October 2023
I love Sharon Stone. I was in the mood for a movie today, this one popped up some where so I said what the heck and purchased the rental. The concept is sweet but this is definitely not the best Sharon Stone flick I've ever seen. The plot was fairly predictable and it just didn't flow well. The whole movie felt a little disjointed throughout, especially towards the end. I think the year over year birthdays could have been presented a little bit better, maybe not so many dang. Im sorry but this movie made Sharon's character seem a little desperate and I didn't like that for her. Tony Goldwyn was believable in his role and he is cute anyways, good job there. And of course who doesn't love the quirkiness and charm of Ellen Burstyn who played her role well. I just felt like overall the movie was disingenuous. I definitely felt like the direction could have been better and the characters could have been a little more developed to improve it. Oh and the roles for Darla, Kimmy and Vanessa made me dislike them immensely. With friends like that who needs enemies? That was weird to watch. Meh, I won't call this movie a total waste of time but I definitely wouldn't watch it again. With Stone, Goldwyn & Burstyn what this movie could have, should have been...we will never know.

Nope. Nope nope nope nope nope.

Warning: Spoilers
A failed "Meet Cute" that isn't at all cute. This is an horribly overacted really bad meet/cute movie.

First off, Stone is absolutely beautiful! BUT - she is NOT 40 something. She's almost 60 and she acts like a really dumb 20 year old. And dressed like one too. Well, she's mostly beautiful until she wears strange stuff on her head and then the yellow outfit to the club, well, it lost the movie a star. It was awful. Then there was the beach volleyball scene with her pigtails. Well you have to give them at least one star .............

I'm saddened at the movies that Ellen Burnstyn has done lately - not the best.

All in all, feel free to skip this one. Or at least view it in fast forward.

Awful
aspen411924 April 2022
The idea that a 60 year old playing the part of a 46 year old is quite obvious!!! The worst movie with great actors in it is sad. I'm shocked that Sharon Stone even considered this part. She might be beautiful but she can't pass for 46 !,,

Pathetic
radiocity-115 May 2022
Another has-been Hollywood flash who can't grow old gracefully. Stone hardly looks like Stone and her acting is so bad you'd never think this is the woman who was in Basic Instinct. I find it curious that she goes through the plastic metamorphosis and her acting ability goes with it.

And the storyline is....what??? Not funny, anywhere.

Get a grip.

Very good idea, poorly executed
natachabertin9228 November 2022
Goldwyn good acting as usual. Good chemistry with Stone.

As other reviewers said, why 46! It would have been better if she were a 50 at least. And the script could use a rewriting for that age too: even as 46, too stupid. I don't understand what the director tried to do, lowering the age in al charaters. Given it was all about the main character, match the actress or change her by a younger one (I'd prefer the first option).

And the soundtrack my goooood! Did you take all the Hallmark music and paste it into this?

The 6 points are for the good idea and the acting of Goldwyn. Stone acting is meh, and her friend plays herself: I was expecting a Queen Latifah entry with guns at some point.

Very enjoyable if not well done movie...
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this movie as the older woman I am...Though I think Sharon Stone is 60 now and was playing a woman the age of 46 to start out with - a stretch, unless of course YOU ARE THE BEAUTIFUL, TALENTED, FUNNY SHARON STONE!

Honestly, the movement of being older, unmarried and close to her mother was an interesting plot in itself. The fact she was "off the grid" as a woman to some degree lent fun and interest to the movie, especially as she slowly but surely was able to resurrect her life and succeed financially. She pulled it off very nicely in my opinion. I'm no "spring chick" either, but I saw the "chapters" of her mid-life for what they were; spliced with humor between her originality if not funkiness and her relationships with her best friend, her mother (also a bit of a diva) and the initially "stuffed shirt" lawyer who thawed out very well with little effort along the way.

Sick to death of the cheap, mundane plots that are merely violent; oversexed and repetitious. Now THAT'S a REAL bore! This sunny picture gave me what I needed and wanted out of this woman's life: A JOURNEY, humor, tenacity, renewal and loving relationships, her Mom, her best friend, her guy, because frankly, that really is? WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT. Kudos Ms. Walters and all for making a fun, E N T E R T A I N I N G movie...For that is SUPPOSE to be? Much of what Hollywood is about - entertainment! Y'all "hit the mark" here.

Fun to watch & I'm still thinking about it
pixieart-5895815 May 2018
When I watched the preview I decided it would be worth a try and I'm glad I took the time. It is a rom-com with an all star, all mature cast. But it is about more than romantic love. In fact, it is mostly about the love of family and friends. It makes you think about what constitutes a full life. It is about sticking by the people in your life life even when they are messy and need different things. Romantic love is only a fraction of the experience. And that is the point. I recommended it to a couple of my friends and can't wait to talk to them about it.

Sweet and funny... but terribly underrated
bellino-angelo201425 February 2023
I have heard for years about ALL I WISH but kinda avoided because of the bad rating and mostly negative reviews (out of 23). Well, I guess I come from another planet because when I saw it last November I expected to hate it but instead, I liked it very much and couldn't believe why it's so hated.

Senna Berges (Sharon Stone) is a fashion designer that is always a kid at heart and is desperate of finding her soulmate, and her mother (Ellen Burstyn) of course doesn't like this. Senna has also the habit of changing jobs and flirting with younger men, up until her 46th birthday meets Adam (Tony Goldwyn) and despite various misunderstandings caused by Senna, Adam will be the man mature enough for making her live an ordinary life.

While the plot might seem shallow, it isn't because the script is so witty and the movie itself full of funny moments. Sharon Stone is in her natural element as a fun loving mature woman, and Tony Goldwyn is perfect (dare to say it) as the man that makes her change her way of life,

Don't trust the pathetic score and negative reviews because I think this is a very enjoyable comedy for every age group that can make you both smile and think.

What is Age
Sarah4231 March 2023
This movie was structured as a series of birthdays, usually an effective way of marking time and character growth.

The problem perhaps is that none of the characters actually seem to age or change much. Yes, both leads grow together, find how they fit, but it's more of a blending than a change.

Sharon Stone is fabulous as Senna. Tony Goldwyn as. Adam has charisma and chemistry. Another standout in my mind was Liza Lapira as Darla, who's the supportive best friend we all need and want.

Was the film great? I'd tend to give it a B, not an A grade.

However having just watched an absolutely egregious network tv episode, I wanted to give it all ten.

Directing, editing, audio all rocked. Writing was fun.

Characters interesting.

It's just the time frame seemed more like a couple years at most. And that's what kept tripping me up.

QUITE POSSIBLY THE BEST WORK SHARON STONE HAS EVER DONE!
donehomr23 July 2018
This movie is a must-see! Sharon pulls you in from the very first scene and leaves you wanting more at the end... Perhaps I'm no critic (although I own a very extensive movie collection and have spent many hours watching them throughout my life - not to mention I took a film class or two in college), but I believe those are the primary ingredients of a great movie!

*Special Note: Always be certain where your keys are BEFORE you lock your car doors; especially when at the beach!!! :)

Sharon: If case you read this; please know you have my utmost respect and admiration for a very charming, witty, and excellent movie. I wish I could give you more than ten stars!

I was blown away by how great Sharon Stone looks in this movie. And the chemistry between her and Tony Goldwyn is scintillating. In fact, my old lady and I had to revisit the Love Shack after watching.

It's a fun, well done movie.

Happiness - the time may come!
humor_has_it15 August 2020
I found this movie to be inspiring. I'm glad it was cast with older characters who have lived and loved...or maybe not. There was much more meaning to it this way than the same old fluff which never rings true since we all know there's more to life after an initial blossoming romance. Kudos to these actors for bringing this to light in a most engaging manner. You could feel the inner struggles. Believe it or not, there are plenty of us middle-aged folks out there who have had them and still haven't come close to a happy ending, romantically, professionally or just plain living. Life is indeed a journey. Thanks for keeping hope alive!
