Jesse Deserves Better
wayfind1 September 2023
Before I address the quality of the movie, I'd like to let Darlene-Steve know that you did NOT hear what you think. The only thing that comes close to that, and what you must have misheard, is when Jesse says, "You'd have a fake name, of course! Raoul Credenza." Get your mind out of the gutter! (I'm teasing you - but no, he said nothing shocking.)

This movie was a disappointment, but never have I seen a whole string of reviewers give a movie with Jesse Hutch a "1" rating. I may be awfully cynical, but I'm going to come right out and say it: Are a bunch of people from a rival channel on here giving a bunch of "1" reviews?? Just wondering.

As to the movie, itself, the plot is a little outlandish, the writing isn't the best, it's really too unrealistic - but this can apply to many of these romances. I'm wondering if it was the director. Some of the actors - especially the insufferable sister! - play their roles as if they were in a farce. ("Haul Out the Holly" actually was a farce and - if you understood what a farce is - it was wonderful, hilarious, and the over-the-top acting was a natural fit for that movie.)

Wedding Dreams, however, is not supposed to be a farce! Jesse is a splendid actor, and he seemed so subdued in this movie that I felt he was somewhat embarrassed. He probably knew it wasn't going well. The sister overacted terribly, and the actor playing Raoul did somewhat, as well. (Again, I question the direction.) I admit, the movie is especially hard to watch at first. It improves after the annoying sister disappears from the movie for a while.

This movie will never make the "A" list, and honestly it barely makes the "C" list (Okay, maybe a "D.") But a whole bunch of "1" ratings? That seems very strange. To put it in perspective, I usually rate a movie at least a 6, and often an 8 or more. I'm giving it a 5, and if I were in a worse mood than I am I might have gone for a 4. But a 1? I don't believe that's accurate or fair for this effort.

That said, it really won't hurt you if you skip this one, unless - as I do - you just love to watch Jesse Hutch perform in almost anything.

I'm being generous

I really like Rebecca dalton but she was so passive this whol movie. She got ran over by everyone else in the movie. She is a leading lady and needs to act like it. By everyone. She has a presence and Jesse Hutch is who he always is a solid p,Ayer. He is so in. The background that this movie loses.

I wish for better from GMAC than what this is the Susie Abromeitmovie is way better. I wanted this to be better I really like Rebecca dalton but this missed the mark. She has been really good in her movies but this one isn't her. Notsure she was the star but whop, ayedher sister was excellent for the most part.

It's a shame these reviews have to be so long as it's not worth extra words because being direct without spoilers makes the most sense.

I will say Jesse hutch was better in this than the one with Vanessa Lengines who could have been better.

Rebecca Dalton & Jesse Hutch Make This Movie Work
mfreburg-946-1375417 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
"Dream Wedding" 2023 GFAM

No movie is as bad as many of the reviews here made this out to be, It was not a truly great movie, but it certainly did not deserve the cornucopia of insulting adjectives thrown at the writers, directors, cast, and final product as was done here.

What we have here is a different type of story, and perhaps that threw off those who were expecting the typical rom-com with tried and true tropes. "Dream Wedding" wasn't one of those movies. Instead it was an attempt to put Rebecca Dalton and Jesse Hutch together despite many obstacles placed there by other people and circumstances. The movie was about two sisters who enter and win a wedding contest--wedding related prizes, a fancy honeymoon, etc. But one must be engaged to enter, of course. Reviewers criticized Dalton's character, Kate, for "lying" about her engagement status--she was not. But Kate was obviously browbeaten by her sister Megan, played by Crista Taylor Brown, who was engaged, and who also clearly had a duplicitous streak, and who knew she could manipulate her sister to give her the prizes. So manipulate she did. So who was the bad guy?

Jesse Hutch, playing a photographer, gets involved in the "scam." At first we're not sure if he's just being helpful to the sisters by offering to take wedding photos, or is interested in Dalton, but one suspects the latter. As Megan insisted that Kate get a fake fiance--Hutch helps arrange it. Both Dalton and Hutch's characters are low key, and so much happens around them that they are not really controlling things in this story. There is a tendency for the viewer, at least there was for me, to feel sorry for them. Dalton's sister Megan, Dalton's fake fiance played by Geoff Shangh (a real goofball I thought), and a random woman (not sure which actress played her) from the wedding contest the sisters won (actually Kate won) who was trying to beat the prizes out of the sisters. Even the parents of the sisters, who were not in on Megan's scam, put enormous pressure on Kate. And the fact that Megan was in fact getting married soon and wanted all the prizes which, again, were actually won by Kate...well, Kate just could not say no to her sister.

I won't get into the end game, here. I enjoyed it. I thought Dalton and Hutch were well cast to end up together. There wasn't a long slow build-up as in many rom-coms--to which I attribute all the pressure Dalton was under--but as in all romance films, all's well that ends well.

A terrible movie!
hilife-127 August 2023
Great American, what are you doing. As another reviewer said this movie is terrible. From the beginning it made no sense. Horrible story line, bad production, bad acting, yes just plain bad. I can't believe Jesse Hutch would do such a crappy movie. If Bill Abbott wants to win over viewers from Hallmark, this is not the way to do it. I was so confused thinking I missed something so I watched it for a second time. Yes I was correct it I really an amateur piece of crap movie. Please my friends do not waste your time on this "movie"? This is going to set back Great American a lot, you can't compete with Hallmark by putting out products like this.

Goodness Gracious Me!
kirbyditko12 July 2023
Everything, from the individual parts to the finished whole, is utter dreck. I'm astounded at how the two leads got roped into this mess. Each character is a one-dimensional caricature, none more so than the absolute grima that's the younger sister. She's a caricature of a caricature playing a caricature. Both sisters would give ditzy blondes a thousand-level boost in reputation. The gunk that passes for the plot is putrid to begin with, essentially caging the two sisters as unsympathetic, annoyingly entitled, shallow, opportunistic airheads. That the producer and director went with this and even pushed it further speaks not just volumes but an entire library. One that uses the Library of Congress system. What were they thinking? To even consider this a parody would be criminal. If this were a porn movie it would make a bit of sense, but it's supposed to be family fare. I'm actually giving this a double-digit negative score. 👎🏻👎🏻👎🏻

You have to be kidding

I was looking forward to one of your premier movies. Boy was I disappointed ! I have been a big supporter of GAC and very happy about competition with hallmark. If this is any indication of what the other movies will be Hallmark has nothing to worry. This rom com was not funny not romantic and absolutely not good. The leads have no chemistry, the first 15 minutes was agony with the stupid premise. The supporting characters were terrible. It seems this movie was made in 15 minutes. I don't understand why GAC would put this garbage out. The actors are decent the wedding idea though not original was fine. Who ever wrote this movie and or directed it should not be working at GAC Sign a value supporter but only if you guys and gals improve the quality.

Nightmare watching
gfrasmd27 August 2023
Let me see: what is the opposite of "uplifting"? You need a dictionary of synonyms to qualify this production and meet the 600 words minimum requirement. A real review would be an inexcusable waste of time, second only to the time wasted watching the movie. Gross, uninspired, juvenile, idiotic, insipid, offensive, amoral, irritating, farcical, amateurish, senseless, plain stupid, misdirected, purposeless, buffoonish, demencial, inane, unreasonable, illogical, inconsistent, demeaning, are some of the adjectives that come to mind. Perhaps, one should add atrocious. I have heartily embraced GAC, expecting a paladin of clean, constructive, family friendly productions. With stuff as this, I do not see where they are heading. About the single positive reviewer, who wonders what kind of lives all others live, one must comment he/she just defined him/herself. This world is beautiful because we all are so different!

WHY was this movie shown to us? 1/10
debox3328 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
1/10. Easlly the Worst Rom-Com that we ever watched! This was a waste of the talents of Jesse, Rebecca, Christa, and the rest of the talent. They were put into the horrible position of trying to save a movie with their cardboard characters and flat-lined, mediocre script. The script seemed to support the ideas that lying, fraud, deception, and cheating on your fiancee are acceptable behaviors. I blame the producer selecting the script and producing this garbage. On top of that, the producer's choice of a director was also vastly wanting in quality. Bill at GAC needs to be more discerning. Volume does not equal Quality.

WOW!! All the BAD Reviews??????
skillfulcota9 September 2023
I liked this movie. I thougth Jesse and Rebecca told a realistic story about what women in this day and age do!! I feel like the 12 bad reviews I read were ridculous. I watched the movie from start to finish. It kept me engaged. Again, the storyline was realistic to what women do in real life to get what they want. The acting was great by all cast members. The sets, costumes, make-up were in good taste. No swearing, no immoral behavior. Great American Family made an excellent choice on showing this film. Reading the reviews made me wonder what kind of lives the writers of the bad reviews live. I liked it. Glad it was on the air!

Please don't waste your time
marissawharton2 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I love Great American Family so I hate writing this, but after spending the last hour and a half watching this movie, I have to help prevent others doing the same thing.

The plot is thin and tired, the actors are caricatures of themselves (especially the "villain" and the parents), and the dialogue is just bad. Kate's change in character and decision making makes no sense given how they established her in the beginning and some of the lines of dialogue in general are kind of mean. At least the magazine editor had common sense and was reasonable. The wrap up was far too quick and the payoff wasn't there due to lack of chemistry and no build up! Why are we supposed to root for Kate and the photographer (sorry, I don't even recall his name) when she showed absolutely no interest in him the entire movie and spent her time fawning over the body builder just to later make him feel bad about his entire personality with a single sentence?

Jesse Hutch and the actor who played the sister's fiancé did their best, but unless you are realllllyyyy a fan of either of those actors, just don't waste your time.

If this was your first introduction to Great American Family, please don't give up on the channel! This is by far the worst movie I've ever seen on the channel. I'm not sure who greenlit it but hopefully Great American never releases anything of this level of quality again.

Value Your Time & Skip This One!
chipotlelover2 September 2023
I next to never write reviews for anything really. With that said, I feel like I owe it to mankind to warn them on this one. This movie from the get go, is horrifically stupid and poorly written. The plot is absolutely stupid, and the acting is terrible and there doesn't seem to be any chemistry between any of the cast. There's no music or anything to really try and help save some of the scenes. If this is what we can expect from Great American Family moving forward, we will no longer be viewers. Everyone is free to watch what they choose of course, but I'd suggest watching grass grow or paint dry before recommending anyone watch this train wreck of a movie!

Another movie based on hurtful lies
dmlspam2 September 2023
Great America "Family"is anti-family. They seem to hire Hallmark writers who only know a few plots. As with most Hallmark movies, this one is based on a lie. Megan is getting married but enters her non-dating sister Kate in a Dream Wedding contest. Kate agrees to the lie so Megan can have fun. Before the first commercial break you will HATE Megan and despise Kate. The wedding vendors spend a lot of time and money to help Kate plan her fake wedding. This lie is hurtful to them. But I guess people don't matter to GAF. I'm sorry, but this is definitely not the way I want to raise my family. I don't care how it ends. A lie is a lie. Let's find a new family network.

A Nightmare of a Dream Wedding
domer-8823926 September 2023
Major Annoyance: Possibly the worst-acted movie of all time. There were three types of performances: over-acting / hamming it up (the lead's sister "Megan", fake macho man fiancé "Paul", contest rival "Joanne"); mailing it in (Jesse Hutch's "Andy"); or random souls pulled off the street with zero experience or training (Kate's, um, parents). Barbie-beautiful Rebecca Dalton ("Kate") managed to both over-act AND under-act, both involving weird facial expressions.

Minor Annoyance: Empty early scenes to fill run time (sisters wandering around a wedding show = 2 mins; sisters talking in a bathroom = 3 mins; sisters talking in an office kitchen = 2 mins).

Final Annoyance: The sudden, almost forced ending. Maybe those earlier filler minutes could have been used to develop a relationship connection and feelings between two characters?

Bad script
rschirmer-272365 September 2023
Totally forgetful movie, no chemistry between actors, the worst premise for a GAC premiere movie.lying is not what I want to teach my family. We get enough of lying in the real world.this doesn't even qualify as entertainment. It seems they just threw a few hundred pages of movie script into the air and however they landed they picked them up, stacked them together and called it a family movie.the mr. Hines character is a buffoon, he doesn't suspect something is wrong when the sister always speaks for her. I will not recommend this movie to anyone unless it is late at night and they are having a hard time going to sleep.

.I will not recommend this movie to any.

Awful
darlene-steve31 August 2023
I just read all the reviews that were posted. None mentioned what I heard Jesse Hutch say!!! I wasn't sure that I heard correctly, so I replayed it. When he was trying to get Geoff Shangh to pretend to be Rebecca Dalton's fiancé, it sounded like he said "you don't have to fake intercourse or anything ". Did I hear correctly? If so, that is not appropriate for GAC channel. I am shocked. I started watching GAC because it was supposed to be family entertainment. Please let me know if I heard incorrectly or I hope you truly apologize for saying this on your channel. I would like to keep watching this channel.
